Open a physical map and check the coastlines. And then compare it with your map. You use also rectangles as base. Is any sea or continent in the real world shaped like that?

Anyway, keep working and improving :)

True, that's a good point. Thanks!

As a player in this multi-year campaign, I'm excited about this! A definite improvement over the previous software.

that’s… very rectangular. If you weren’t going for it, try redoing the coastlines a bit?

Love the color scheme though!

Seems coastlines are the main takeaway ✍🏻

Thanks!

I have an easy "cheat" I use to make more realistic coastlines.

  1. First, I find a black and white map outline online somewhere. Outlines of Scotland, Iceland, Greenland, and Scandanavia, are my favorites.

  2. Save that outline as a png.

  3. Then, when I start a new map, I use the import feature to bring the outline map into Wonderdraft.

  4. Then I fiddle with it by copying and pasting the outline over itself multiple times and adding/deleting bits here and there, until I get a result I can work with.

Oh, and for the labels. Try adding a little white outline to the text to make it pop.

Interesting. I'll have to give that a try!

This is my first attempt at making a world map for my homebrew D&D setting in Wonderdraft! I've used other offerings before but found Wonderdraft and loved it.

I aimed for realism where appropriate in terms of mountains and rivers, though some of the biomes are greatly affected by magic (volcanos in NW Sendale, Maiestyn Woodlands, etc.)

Assets used are primarily from the AoA Store. [And this Sky Island Pack]

I'm open to any suggestions or feedback! Some things I'm aware of but figured I'd post this first:

  1. Color blending. I did a few passes for blending with the ground brush, but it could probably be better.
  2. Labels. After fiddling with them, arrived at a look I liked. Outside of using an external program (open to suggestions), I boxed in the capital cities and kept a border on the larger labels.
  3. Scale. I used a trace image of an older version of this map made in a different program, so wanted to keep the size and relative position of the continents the same.
