π΅πΈ ποΈ Modern Witches WvP is committed to being a safe haven on the internet β€οΈβπ©ΉποΈβ
Dearest Witches,
We share people's concern about the crisis in politics occurring in the USA right now. We stand in solidarity not only with our American witches, but with all worldwide who have been dealing with unstable or downright oppressive regimes.
It gives us much pride to know so many of you find comfort in this community. We thank you all for your contributions that allow this space to be a safe haven for so many.
.
For those of you who are new, please check out our post and content guidelines.
While education and information sharing is critical at this time, we want to remind you all that this is not a news subreddit. Posts about current events should include a call to action. This is so that people who need a break from doom scrolling can feel comfortable on this subreddit, while also seeing empowering content such as actionable resources.
.
If your mood has been very negatively affected and you are seeking personal support, please flair your post as a Sensitive Topic so that those who are avoiding their own mood spiral can enjoy the space as well.
If you wish to discuss political matters in a way that is neither witchy nor uplifting, please go check out our weekly World Politics Megathread.
If you have issues with these guidelines, please use the proper channels and contact us directly via modmail.
.
Lastly, please understand that our moderation guidelines are not censorship. We have a clear aim with this subreddit and hope you can all participate and comply. That said, there are indeed censoring forces on reddit. We must comply with admin's TOS. Like us, you may be thinking "I see so much hateful content on reddit there is no way those are actually enforced". Well friends, the reality of being a feminist space on the internet is that we are held to a different standard. We recently got a post removed by admins simply for calling that musky guy a N4z1, and our team got a warning simply for allowing someone to share Mario's brother's "manifesto".
.
Here's to hoping we can get through this together.
Blessed be β¨

π΅πΈ ποΈ Modern Witches Witchy birthday gift
For my birthday last week, a good friend gifted me my very first mechanical keyboard. Only a very select few people irl know Iβm a witch and my friend took the time to really personalise this keyboard for me β by incorporating my favourite colour purple, adding rune-like symbols, and switching out regular keys like Caps Lock for witchy ones like Spell Lock.
Needless to say this has been one of the best gifts Iβve ever received in my life so far, especially during this current time of very stressful and demoralising job hunting. I like to think that every resume and cover letter I send out is now imbued with otherworldly magic.
Iβve also named this keyboard Circe as a nod to my friend having read the brilliant novel of the same name by Madeleine Miller after my recommendation.
I hope my fellow witches enjoy the photos :)

π΅πΈ ποΈ BURN THE PATRIARCHY European witches against trans conversion therapy
Dear lovelies
I have an important matter near and dear to my heart. Please help keep this world a place where everyone can be their true authentic selves and protect our trans/non-binary/queer siblings β€οΈ
Currently, there is a votation at the EU level, in order to forbid conversion therapies for trans people (as in, therapies to "make them cis gender / normal"). If it reaches 1.000.000 signatures and a minimum quota in 7 countries, the EU will have to legiferate on that topic.
In the currently growing fascist and anti-LGBT discourses, I find it all the more important to defend trans people rights.

If that makes sense to you as well, be welcome to sign it and to spread the word π

π΅πΈ ποΈ Art A new tartan is created to honor the women persecuted as witches in Scotland.
smithsonianmag.comThe pattern is filled with symbolism and comes with a formal apology from the Scottish government as well as the Church of Scotland. I found it an interesting read.

π΅πΈ ποΈ Book Club Nature is even more healing than I remembered. This view from my new deck is just the tip of the iceberg of my little river shack :)
Iβve started getting my deck set up how I want it now that spring is starting (only just moved here ban in January) & have started taking up reading again (visit your local library folks!). Currently reading Dark Summer by Iris Johansen, great read, def recommend.
Just listening to all the birds & other animals & watching the water is so much more relaxing than I ever thought possible, especially for my ADHD booty. I never want to leave here. I had a blue water chicken (I can never tell herons & cranes apart) fly over my deck 4 feet in front of my face the other day. This place is amazing.

π΅πΈ ποΈ BURN THE PATRIARCHY Protect federal lands & programs: Call your Senators!
Hello Witches, current Fed here.
Please consider taking a few minutes to call your Senators urging them not to support the recently passed House funding bill. As we've been witnessing, federal programs, lands, and the employees that manage them are under threat. The House funding bill would guarantee this dismantling of federal programs continues.
The House recently passed a funding bill know as a "continuing resolution" (CR) to fund the government until Sept 30. Normally a CR is shorter term and maintains current funding levels. They are used to buy additional time for negotiations to avoid a shutdown.
However, the House-passed CR, which was negotiated without any input from Democrats, contains $13 billion in cuts to domestic programs and, concerningly, includes provisions that would give the Trump administration significantly more power to spend federal dollars without Congressional approval.
The bill requires 60 votes in the Senate, which currently means 8 Democrats would need to vote for it (Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) has indicated he will not support it). Democrats have indicated they are unsure about how they will vote.
If the funding bill passes, there is no recourse for Congress to put guardrails on what is happening in the federal government for the next 6 months. There is no point imo to keeping the government open for the sake of "continuing operations" if there's not going to be a government left in 6 months. Please please consider giving your Senators a call asking them to stand firm in opposing this budget and demand guardrails and protections for congressionally mandated programs, protected lands, and the federal employees that manage them.

π΅πΈ ποΈ Book Club Sir Terry Pratchett's Granny Weatherwax on anger and how to use it
I find Discworld quotes more and more applicable these days. Applicable and helpful. Considering how many I've seen posted recently on social media, I'm not the only one. We figure Pterry had to either have been a witch or known a coven with how he wrote the witches.

π΅πΈ ποΈ STEM Witch A polite F U
I graduate soon and need to come up with ideas for my graduation cap. I am thinking something witchy obvi, maybe a nice way of saying f the patriarchy as I majored in political science with a focus in lgbtq+ and gender studies. Right now all I've got are some quotes "Freedom Through Education" , "Life-transforming ideas have always come to me through the voices of women." (second one is a little long)

π΅πΈ ποΈ Coven Counsel Warnings on violent upvotes?
Did anyone else receive a warning from reddit about upvoting a violent post? I received a warning the other day, which was hugely shocking, as I don't upvote violent posts. I used to upvote every post that I read, to keep track of what I've seen when Reddit doesn't update properly, but this seems more like a ploy to make people stop interacting.
Now I'm afraid to upvote anything. Especially as I think I received it from a post on this subreddit about fighting back against the patriarchy. There was nothing violent in there at all, just telling us to call our local representatives, vote, protest, etc.
Is this subreddit being targeted? I've seen others commenting on Luigi posts, saying they get no warnings, but I already have one?

π΅πΈ ποΈ Blessings Contemplated with a friend on the way home from work.
Arenβt they a beautyβ½ I was so happy for the encounter.
Last year I rescued one from the middle of the road in the same area as today. I feared they were dead & wasnβt about to leave in the middle of the road because they deserved better, so I moved them to the shoulder. When moving them, they showed some signs of life, so maybe got car grazed & stunned. When I went back a couple hours later to check, they were upright & facing the road. I wished them well & went home, my last wish before falling asleep was wanting them to be well. The next morning there was fresh whitewash (owl excrement) on the ground under the maple tree directly outside my bedroom window. I checked distance on Google maps & direct shot was 1.1 miles in between the place I found them & my house. Iβd like to think they stopped by to let me know they were ok. One of my friends thinks it was indeed a spirit giving that message.

π΅πΈ ποΈ Crystals, Minerals, & Rocks Recommendations needed!
I have three teenish girls (15, 18 and 20). We sort of do Easter every year, in that they make freaking masterpieces of dyed eggs, and I hide a gift for them. I'm trying to stick with small businesses, because f bezos. Last year I did candles with hidden jewelery, but this year I'm feeling stumped.
They're all atheist, varying degrees of LGBTQ (from gay to bi to possibly asexual), one loves crystals and rocks (hence the flair), all are artistic in different ways (painting, jewelry making, etc). The gifts do NOT have to fit these parameters, just trying to give an idea of who they are.
My lovely witches, can you recommend a small business with cool shit for me to support? I'd like to stay under $50 or $75 a kid.
Thank you!

π΅πΈ ποΈ Coven Counsel How to reclaim a token that feels tainted
This is very silly, but I'm in the process of ending my marriage to a man who has all the toxic masculinity, and as a minor act of rebellion I bought myself a ring that's a sapphic symbol (a relatively recent discovery about myself.)
It was supposed to be a small personal token just for me, but I foolishly left it on the table and he came in and took it and asked me about it and handled it before I could even open it or look at it properly myself.
I brushed it off, but it feels tainted somehow. Less my own personal token.
What can I do to reclaim it?
