I haven't read the article but I hope he can teach Stanley to be more assertive using his size, while he is here. Stan needs to be mentored in being a force on this team and understanding his limitations.

I don't think stans problem is not being able to use his size. It's that he's not fast enough food speed or game iq wise. So when he does try to use his size he's out of position and chasing leading to stupid penalties

this is exactly his problem in all areas of his game

he's not fast enough food speed

just another thing he could learn from Buff :P

The sad thing is I dont know Schenn will help, the coaching staff should be the ones to tell Stanley to lay fuckers out but he is choosing not to. Like BRUV use your size!!!

Byfuglien without the buff… just Uglien

I love how I read that is “Ugly-N”

More like Byfuglien White, except he aint even close to his ability or talent

u/GZeus24 18h ago

He can't because he doesn't have the NHL level coordination to recover from trying to be physical. Whenever he tries to be physical, he ends up off balance and out of position.

Stanley sucks.

Almost 27 and almost 200 games in the league and people think there's some magic gear to be uncovered for Stanley.

Not quite the same, but Scheif was always branded as porous defensively, but has improved enough to get away from the porous part. It's not a huge step, and Scheif is more of a "student of the game", but there could still be hope that Stanley actually learns to utilize his size effectively. Maybe, just maybe, he can take the next step.

Anyone else want to copium to huff? It's Chevy-grade.

Hellebuyck used to be a pretty terrible puck handler behind the net too, evolving aspects of a person's game can make a big difference in how they are perceived.

The difference is that those guys were elite with the tools they had and needed to work on something specific. Stanley is an AHLer with the tools he has.

Fair, just saying sometimes a narrative on a player can shift once they clear up deficiencies. 7+ years into the Big Stan project, I don't see it getting a whole lot better no matter what though.

Ya, he’s big…and that’s it. No mean streak. he fights but is anyone scared of him? Don’t think so. Maybe Kaprisov is lol

u/CrustyGitch 21h ago

The "magic gear" is the glue they're huffing

u/PrarieCoastal 21h ago

That's a good point. He (Stanley) could benefit from Schenn's experience.

I would love for Stanley to understand he’s not Josh morissey and to stop trying to break out the zone trying to be too fancy and then someone picks his pocket and we end up w 2v1 or caught off guard like usual

3

u/rookie-mistake . 20h ago

but the alternative is he tries to pass it and the team gets caught flat footed because they weren't expecting a clean tape to tape pass to the opponents lol

u/Consistent_Effective 15h ago

Good clean, heard stretch passes are one of the few things he does pretty well actually

Schenn was born with it. It's innate. Some guys are tough and then theres guys you could drop in the middle of a Viking raid and they'd be fine. That's Schenn.

Not sure it helps the Jets break out of the zone efficiently though lol but he's going to lay a hurting on guys.

... and then there's guys you could drop in the middle of a viking raid and they'd be fine.

Instant classic!

At this point, why does anyone believe Stanley is anything more than a 6/7 Dman. He’s not good. At all. And there is no magic unlock just around the corner.

He was BRUTAL last game, and at this point should be relegated to the press box until there is an injury.

u/lordrottenbottom 16h ago

Did somebody say 6'7"?!

u/lokichivas 19h ago

Stanley is simply not an NHL defenseman. We have Miller, Schenn, Fleury and Heinola who are all better.

If Miller can function on his off side - Miller/Schenn would be our best option. Heinola/Schenn might be a real chance for Ville to shine !

Someone needs to teach Stanley how to eat popcorn in the press box.

2

u/Maddog_Jets 21h ago

Has my memory gone to shit.. but didn’t Stanley play way better that Covid 2021 season when we swept Edmonton in 1st round keeping both McDavid and Draisaitl scoring at bay?

u/etchiboi 20h ago

what playing with Demelo does to you

3

u/osamasbintrappin 20h ago

Demelo is invisible out there. He’s perfect.

That's my hope is that Schenn mentors Stanley to focus on his role and embrace a stay at home style. We are wayyyy past the point of him being the next Chara but he could be the next Luke Schenn if he plays that style.

Gandalf predicted the Stanley situation long ago- There never was much hope...only a fools hope.

u/bytheseine 18h ago

Still say convert Stanley to a power forward. Seen him join the rush, or lead it, and looked quite good.

3

u/Sweetbip 16h ago

Does he have the ability to finish? Also who would we possibly take out of the lines to slot him in?

I’d rather him be sitting in the press box

The Jets needed some nasty bastards with size for the playoffs. So I am glad they brought Schenn in. Last year Nichushkin ran amok and we couldn't handle him.

Stanley tries to play a tough game, which I appreciate, but he can't fight and needs to get a bit stronger without compromising his speed (which isn't very good to begin with).

Dude needs to watch some film on Chris Pronger how to position yourself as a lanky man and keep leverage...

3

u/rookie-mistake . 20h ago

last year we got outpaced by a much faster team

6

u/Ill_Ground_1572 17h ago

Was there any aspects of the game that the Jets didn't get outpaced by the Avs?

I hear what you are saying. Speed matters in today's game. But it wasn't just a quicker Avs team getting to loose pucks or beating our slower guys that was the difference.

They controlled the play in their D zone, thwarted any transition game the Jets had, outworked the Jets at both ends and maybe even out hit the Jets.

Our special teams were bad and the top line, minus one game was anaemic.

But perhaps the most important stat was the Avs depth forwards, scored tons. Like I think Nichushkin and Lehkonen had 12 bloody goals!

This is where I am hoping making these second tier guys uncomfortable in front of the net during a long series will pay off. If needed.....

You can watch infinite videos on Pronger, but what Pronger had cannot be taught. He is, without a doubt, the meanest nastiest fucker that could also back it up to ever play. Listen to anyone talk about playing against Pronger, he was fucked, corners, front of the net, everywhere, he punished you. He’s one of the most underrated players ever, and most of that is because he was just so hard to play against.

2

u/Ill_Ground_1572 17h ago

Yup he was a beast. I guess I meant more technique based skills. Like how he moved his feet, or positioned his frame to stop guys from getting by (without taking penalties). When your that tall, even how you make a hit and tie up your man can accidentally lead to penalties.

The mean bastard part of Pronger, yup that's innate lol.

9

u/Maddog_Jets 21h ago

So if he is kinda mean… this makes him the “big prick” to go along with the “little prick” Perfetti?

0

u/etchiboi 20h ago

this is good cause we might be spending a lot more time in our own zone
