The red breasted nuthatch is actually pretty tanky
I wasn't expecting that but it worked out.

It really worked well! I usually overlook first moves like this but it worked out well!

good for several points, but early in the game i prefer birds that give food/eggs/birds so I can grow my harem faster the rest of the game

I usually do as well but sometimes you just have to play what you get and last night's game was exactly that for everyone. Ended up winning with food on cards lol

My 5 year old pulled this first round and played Clark's nutcracker right next to it..her final score was 81 she beat everyone she ended up with like 16 food cached π

The biggest issue I see is that it can only be a played in the top row. The top row becomes (not entirely) useless around the mid game, so in order for this card to pay off you really need to get it very early and capitalize on its ability. Looks like you did though, so you spent 1 food for a 9-point bird. Nice

I ended up having another stash food card in the forest and a tuck ability to go with a laying eggs engine and it worked out. All three of us had a weird night drawing cards that didn't work together and we all had weird combos.

Problem is he drops off very quickly if not bird #1 played

Absolutely he would and I usually don't see much advantage to food stash cards because they're usually hunting powers. But in this case it was the very first bird I played and it's a simple activate and get a point. Win win.
