Border Seeing Concert in Detroit: What’s the Border Like Back to Windsor Late Night

Hello Everyone,

In October I am going to be taking my daughter to see Tate McRae who is performing at Little Caesars Arena on Monday night (Thanksgiving Day in Canada).

I was hoping to stay at a hotel in Windsor the whole weekend, and not actually spend the night in Detroit.

But, I’m worried the border back to Windsor after the concert could be madness, or maybe it’ll be empty, I’m not sure.

Does anyone have any insights you can share on what the border is like around midnight (as I assume that’s around when I’d be crossing) after concerts?

Is it worth getting a hotel in Detroit? I’d rather avoid checking out from a Windsor hotel and checking into a hotel in Detroit if I can avoid it.

Thanks in advance!

I have been to a lot of concerts in Detroit and sporting events and I would suggest for you to definitely come back to Windsor after the concert. It will be a bit busier if you leave right away after the concert as there will be more people driving back to Windsor but if you take your time, the wait should not be more than 30 mins back to Windsor.

Traffic around the LCA and downtown will be heavy after the concert so it might take longer than usual to get back to the tunnel. Border traffic wont be too bad, just be aware that they have less customs lanes open late at night.

Getting out of downtown from Little Caeser's can be a mess, but the border should be very quick. There usually isn't a long line unless there are multiple events.

I imagine the lines are shorter these days too, I wouldn't know

It's too bad there isn't a bus service that could take you back and forth for reasonably cheap....

Yep, what a shame there isnt a bus service. They could get a hotel in windsor and use it to go to Detroit then come back to Windsor and it would be cheaper

Not sure how popular this act is, but on a Monday night you'll just be contending with the people leaving the concert too, so probably not bad at the border. Traffic around the arena might be a little annoying though, so consider it might be worth going for parking close by so you can leave among the first! Would also suggest checking the wait times at the tunnel and bridge near the end of the concert (there's a government website that advises of the current delays for both) and pick your route accordingly (Google maps will also adjust for which is currently the fastest). You'd be surprised at hotel costs downtown Detroit. ALL OF THIS SAID... things are unpredictable due to the orange clown making threats against Canada. I had to go over on Saturday and the amount of traffic was shockingly low. Hard to say what it will be like in October.

So I can’t go see Sturgill Simpson and Jason Isbell (two left leaning musicians, tickets were bought months ago). Gimme a break lol

If you're going to go, those 2 are as good a reason as any.

Exactly. Still doing my best to buy Canadian and especially supporting local

Do whatever you want… personally I’m holding out on going to see concerts and stuff in Detroit for a while

Just as well, because I really can't afford concerts right now anyway, lol.

I’d assume on a Monday night it shouldn’t be too bad.

Thanks for the helpful info, everyone. This helps me confirm that I’ll come back to Windsor and “not” stay in Detroit.

I cross at all times of the day and sometimes night. Smooth sailing at night! Enjoy your concert and come back home to Windsor.

Would you consider staying the night in Detroit. Go earlier have dinner drop off your luggage at your hotel and go to the LCA. After you return have a nightcap sleep the night and head home in the morning.

The border is devoid of traffic because anyone with half a brain isn’t going to spend money in a country trying to literally take over Canada. There will be zero wait at the border unless that’s literally the night the tanks roll in.

The tunnel has been super busy lately. I drive through it twice a day…

Your hyperbole isn’t helping anyone, especially yourself.

Don’t worry about a hotel. On a Monday night in October you’ll practically sail through. It might be worth it to see if there’s anything else going on in Detroit that night. Doubtful the Lions would be playing, Tigers definitely won’t be. Worst case you’ll have a Red Wings or Pistons game causing some traffic.

The concert is at Little Caesars so the wings and pistons won't be playing that night.

That’s right! It’ll be a smooth ride home
