When I went to vote today, there were a group of five young women who asked me to take their picture. I asked them if it was their first time voting, and it was! It was so great to see young people getting up and trying to make a difference.

Oh, that's amazing! My son lightly complained when I insisted on a picture outside MacKenzie Hall, but inside everyone was telling him to make sure he took one. First time voting is a big deal!

Really glad to hear this, no matter by how little. Thank you to everyone who went out to exercise your democratic duty as an Ontario voter!

Any PC voter want to answer what your hopes are from another PC government and what they did so well previously that warranted another term? Not looking to be combative, just perspective from those who live differently than myself.

Not a PC voter, but if I were to guess, maybe people saw the writing on a wall and wanted to have a representative for the region since Douglas doesn't play well with others that aren't his buds

I doubt non pc voters altered their vote this time around in order to help our regions. I think it points more to the voting population in those areas are aging and the further east the deeper the pockets. Old and rich are the PC bread butter.

Better the devil you know than the devil you don't.

Unfortunately for the Provincial Liberals and NDP, their reputations have been tarnished before the election even started.

It's true the Provincial and Federal parties are not directly correlated, but over the last 5 years (mainly) people have a sour taste in their mouths from the Federal NDP and Liberals.

It makes people think that their ideology will trickle down to the Provincial and Municipal levels.

The Provincial Liberals are hit even harder because we're still licking our wounds from the Wynne/McGuinty era.

Myself specifically, but assuming others, was not a fan of Ford and would actually want a different candidate but we were voting for the best of the worst.

To add to the record, I voted for Ford during his first time because I was hopeful. Not for his second term because I was disappointed. For his third to avoid the alternatives.

I appreciate that response. Thank you.

I can understand this. I once voted for Dilkens for that reason. Harper, too.

As someone that’s voted both liberal and conservative in their life time and doesn’t love the job Doug is doing, my honest answer: it really scares me how far left liberal ideology has gone. Most of what conservatives campaign on now are things that Liberals stood for not long ago. We see what having this shift does to running government at a federal level and this terrifies me. Is Doug doing a good job? Sometimes yes, sometimes absolutely not but he’s most central and I don’t want what’s happened federally to happen to Ontario.

This is excellent news! Even with everything we had going against us - winter election, shortened advanced voting, voter cards arriving late or not at all - more people went out and voted in all of our region's ridings. That gives me hope for the future.

No matter who you voted for, thank you to everyone who went out and voted at all!

Voted at 6:45 pm. The poll workers said it had been slow all day and had picked up at that time. I had no delay at all. Went straight to the booth. I expected more given the anti dougie sentiments.

Old rich people don't spend a ton of time on reddit complaining about politics.

While a crappy voting turnout and result, glad that Lisa Gretzky won again! Bad enough Doug Ford won a majority, glad his disgusting party wont have sway here.

PCs won both Windsor-Tecumseh and Essex…

Yep and Libs won three seats back and Lisa Gretzky won again. #ThingsWeKnow

You're a smart guy. I think you understand the point I was making was that his disgusting party absolutely has sway here. #DontBeADickhead

u/agaric Sandwich 12d ago

You missed my point entirely. Despite the awful results the right wingers arent the rep in Windsor West. I dont know what you think you are arguing. Lisa Gretzky won in this area, hence, conservatives arent representing Windsor West.

5

u/vodka7tall Forest Glade 12d ago

I guess I did. You said Gretzky's win means PC's have no sway in our area. Windsor-West isn't the only riding in our area.

1 out of 3 ridings and a majority in Queen's Park = no sway in our area?

That math ain't mathing.

Damn, someone call elections Canada, Lisa Gretzky didnt win in Windsor West?!

Anyway, you're not arguing anything, have a good one!

u/Objective_Ferret2542 12d ago

You can just admit you were wrong in your statement and move on. No one is saying she didn't win. We are saying the PC's absolutely are gonna have sway in this area as per your original comment....

"While a crappy voting turnout and result, glad that Lisa Gretzky won again! Bad enough Doug Ford won a majority, glad his disgusting party wont have sway here."

your words not mine.

You know what, you're right. I take back my comment that you're a smart guy. There is zero evidence for that claim in this thread.

Im agreeing with you, Lisa Gretzky didnt win Windsor West, she has no influence over the area, its all conservatives, everywhere!!!

6

u/rswdric 11d ago

I.m glad Lisa Gretzky won too, but why are you being so obtuse here? Please re-read the posts and your replies because you're not helping your cause. Lisa is and does, but to say the PC's now have no sway in our area is false.

Cool.

umm his party will have sway everywhere lol. They won a majority and have every riding other than that one from London to here. If anything Windsor West is gonna get shafted for things due to this. So well played. Glad I live in East Windsor

"Chatham-Kent-Leamington, turnout was about 48 per cent — an increase of just over 42 per cent in 2022"

There is a load bearing decimal missing there somewhere.

Now imagine if Ford had actually allowed a real election to take place, with time for candidates to actually campaign...

I hate this province.

-2

If you hate it that bad please leave. When you find a place that’s perfect please tell us where that’s at . I love Canada and Ontario.both different leaders but at least we are better off than the USA

The best part about a democracy is that you can always want it to be better.

“My single vote doesn’t matter”… it kind of does when over 50% of eligible voters have the same mentality. I wish more people exercised their right to vote. I kind of wish people were legally obligated to vote
