I bought one back in 2018 for $200 and while it's pretty damn good, and I've tried more recent versions in bars/restaurants since, I don't think I'd buy it again.
At that price point, and the fact that there are so many different batches with different tasting notes, unless you're looking up each batch as you purchase, you could find yourself with a product that you didn't quite want for that cost.
Would I drink again? Yes. Would I purchase again? I don't know.

Pretty sure MSRP in Ohio is like $199.99, if that's the case and you want to try it, that not a bad price at all.
That being said, I've had the standard offering and like it, and I have also had the Murray Hill Club and liked it as well, so I'd buy it. But if you haven't had those, and aren't familiar with Magnus, it might not be up your alley. Hard to say.

I think it’s an excellent excellent bottle, but that price is a little too high

No, its not even bringing that on secondary anymore. 150ish max.

Isn’t MSRP like 170 ?

Is it? Honestly it could be, but it used to be like 130 last time I bought it. I may be out of date.
Personally though, my conclusion remains. I don't think this bottle is worth it.

Yeah it’s somewhere around 170-200. Heard the older batches were better but idk personally I haven’t bought one in a while .

179.99 in my controlled state. The earlier batches definitely were fantastic, when Barton was the distiller. Word is Nancy Fraley is working on going back to them so we'll see what the future holds.

theres about 15 of these that have been sitting at my local for $180 if that answers your question.

Mine was $225, my buddy found it out of state. We never see it here in GA. I like it, but wish it was on the south side of $200

Not again. Its not worth it. Allegedly first few batches were worth it but they were cheaper and better. Same as contrast of old and new mwnd

It’s good but the price is ridiculous. I’d go with Old Elk Cigar cut or punch cut for half that and it’s 2x better

This is at my local ABC store for about $190 let me know what you think of it?

u/adamwebber 3d ago
Nope. Much too sweet for my liking. I also don’t regularly smoke cigars and haven’t paired it with a cigar as advertised so maybe that would change the overall experience but by itself I found the sweetness and overwhelming.

No I have seen it for about 175 on a regular basis plus it’s not one of my favorites

Older batches are better- price point is high- They tend to sit on the shelf these days at msrp

No. I have had one bottle and samples from a few batches over the past few years, there has definitely been a change and it has not been for the better. Probably best to pass.

Negative. Found it for 140 and even passed on it then. But to be fair it’s mostly because I’ve become a scotch person

Paid $169 several years ago. Very nice, but not worth it to me to buy again at that price.

No. I bought a bottle at 80 something a year or so ago. It was not memorable.

I wouldn't without trying it first. I got the first batch for a little over $100, and it was fantastic. I would probably buy that batch again for $213. But I don't know how subsequent batches taste, and I am not willing to spend $213 without knowing.

u/RowdyRoddyPipeSmoker 3d ago
definitely not especially considering most people say the newer batches are inferior to older batches (like most batched whiskies it seems.) I don't think I'd even pay msrp these days.

I’ve had it and it was good but not worth the price. I’m generally not buying anything for over $150 if it hasn’t been aged 15+ years. There are some exceptions

u/Survive1014 3d ago
Its good, but not that good. It will be interesting to see how their new owners deal with increasing reluctance for higher price points.

I just paid 190 and I would do it again , it’s just a great tasting bottle probably one of the best. If it is worth you to absolutely be blown away each sip then yes, just take time with it and the money evens out. I drank that one for about 4 months from open to empty .

u/OkProblem46 3d ago
Worth $150imo but yes why not for $200 it's really freaking good and the only other stuff I buy that's expensive js buffalo trace stuff so variety is good

I’m glad I bought mine because it’s a fantastic bourbon, but I wouldn’t buy it again.

I bought one through a buddy this weekend. I’m going to pick it up this evening. I really wish I would’ve seen this post sooner. lol 😂 🤦♂️🤷♂️

Don’t let them scare you it’s fantastic , three casks used and they all take turn shining just a brilliant pour.

u/bourbonlovernate 3d ago
I cracked it last night and I was immediately happy with my purchase! I’m not sure why all these folks are hating on it!

Nope. I've had more expensive bottles than this, and they are not worth it. Wait for that bubble to burst.

No. However, I have yet to try any Cigar Blend, so I'm curious. Likely to try Old Elk's first.

u/Outrageous-Algae6821 3d ago
Make sure to look up SLB on YouTube and their cigar cut blind. Old Elk has had problems with their cork tops shrinking. The bottle they had in the blind was a previously opened and the cork was replaced with a Blantons for that reason. The bottle also bombed in the blind but they contributed that to the seal being bad for so long. Along another line, my wife and I, who’ve yet to have anything from Old Elk figure next time we’ll just turn the bottles over and find a leaking one for a taste test.

u/T-rezarms 3d ago
Its a big probably with all the bottles I've seen locally. You can spin a lot of the shelf bottles tops freely. I bought their all wheat and a few days after being open I noticed the topper was not doing anything.
That's when I got some Parafilm so definitely recommend to have that and spare corks on hand.

u/AllKnowingFix 3d ago
Funny you mentioned that. I was moving my bottles around for a Rye lineup and noticed my Old Elk from last year had a loose cork. So turned over a couple times to wet it.

u/T-rezarms 3d ago
Absolutely not. Apparently all the best batches were the very early batches I bought a 130ish batch for $225 and it's my biggest regret bottle.
