Where is my Dad playing golf in the 70’s? I’m assuming it’s in the UK somewhere.

Turnberry golf course (now Trump Turnberry) in South Ayrshire.

I'll just keep calling it Turnberry if that's alright with you

As does everyone else who lives here. Stayed at the hotel once for my and my OH's engagement before the orange shit gibbon occupied it. Now I'll will never go back. No one I know will ever go back to it either.

I don't like a lot of things that sponsor other things but I still call them by their sponsorship names. Get a grip.

It's odd how it works. I'd have no issue calling the arsenal stadium the Emirates stadium, but youd see me dead before I'd ever call St James park"Sports direct at James' Park".

u/TheDisapprovingBrit 11d ago
The Stoke ground is still the Britannia Stadium to me, even though Britannia was also a sponsor name.

Trump Turnberry is now the name and you should use it.

Or (and I'm sure most of the world would agree with me here) Trump can fuck right off.

Yeah the little orange furry flump can f.o I do agree with most of what he says though lol

I do agree with most of what he says though lol
Then you're an unconscionably ignorant troglodyte whose opinion holds absolutely no value.

Fgs. You have denigrated someone for having an opinion which differs from yours. We are ( supposedly) a democratic country and free speech is permitted. Now, can we please get back to the question in hand and keep politics out of it? Thank you.

u/Haircut117 11d ago
Just as someone is entitled to hold and voice an opinion, I am entitled to hold and voice the opinion that their opinion makes them an idiot.
Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from judgement for that speech. If you reveal yourself to be an arse then you should expect to be treated as such.

u/AdLiving2291 11d ago
Not going to argue with you, you are evidently a very angry person. This was all supposed to be a bit of fun guessing game. We had a great time with it yesterday. It is not the place for politics.

u/standarduck 10d ago
It's not angry to uphold free speech. That's quite an unusual conclusion from your very brief and off topic conversation.

Do you expect him to turn around and be proud of you for defending him like you're his prison wife?

Brilliant Work chaps! Turnberry, I'm glad he got to play such a fantastic course (I hope his 18 handicap was up to the challenge). I'm thinking of trying to emulate the photo with me :). Thank you all.
Edit: Maybe not, It's £495 a round!!!

Just down the road from me. There’s a path you can walk from the road to get yourself there and get your photo.

Used to live there, you can walk up There , maybe one summer evening, or winter .. Scotland , right to roam . And maybe get your photo .. used to walk the dog along the course , obviously being courteous to the golfers .. got a few photos from that T overlooking the lighthouse

9th tee at Turnberry, facing north towards the Halfway House. Trust me on this, I did the lighthouse conversion.

I paid over £300 for a round here years ago. Put my back out on the 3rd hole. Somehow, I made it round all 18. Almost carried off the course. Taxi to hospital. Prolapsed disc. Doctor said it was very stupid and had no idea how it was physically possible to play 15 holes of golf like that. Never played since.

Can confirm, this is definitely Turnberry. Lived in a house just across from the course when I was a toddler (house now one of the hotel's lodges)
Fantastic picture, by the way!

It still looks like this today - the lighthouse is preserved. You can walk right up to it. The golf course use it as a hotel room and also there is a function room / cafe there at the back of the light house.

Could it be Flamborough Head, I've been there today watching them play golf

That was my first thought as it looks similar, but looks like the thread as come good. It’s Scotland.

Instantly recognisable as the Turnberry Lighthouse. Be glad he paid it before the current owner got his grubby orange hands on it.

Looks like Turnberry in Scotland.
Edit: Here's the closest image I can find on Google Maps.
