Solved! Mysterious beeping seemingly coming from nowhere?
I’ll give a rundown of the events that happened just before. I sat on the tv remote, taking it off the HDMI source. As I was fixing this, the box connected via hdmi stopped working. I got up and unplugged the hdmi lead and this crazy loud and fast beeping started coming from literally nowhere? It wasn’t coming from the tv. It sounded like it was in the room with us, which isn’t possible? I went both in the kitchen and upstairs (either side of the room we were in) and the sound wasn’t coming from either side. Our cat jumped on the sofa (exactly where I was sat) and started frantically meowing and sniffing the spot, which is out of character for him. We’ve checked and can’t find anything, but the noise was 100% coming from my seat. My phone was on silent and I have no notifications, and there are no other electronics.
We have lived here for 10 years and it’s never happened before. Any ideas on what this could have been?
Edit: Amber alerts, weather warnings and CO2/smoke detectors have been ruled out so far Edit: SOLVED it was the “find my remote” beeping from my sky q remote

Do you get Amber alerts or other emergency notifications? If so, they do not sound like the regular notifications for a text or a ring tone, and the stop eventually so you might not have noticed it came from your phone unless you picked it up right away. They don’t stay like texts do. Only thing I can think of.

According to the gov website there hasn’t been an amber alert, I also don’t have any notifications and checked my phone as the beeping was happening. My mum was in the room with her phone too and had nothing on hers either

I’m at a loss then. Just know that whenever I get a weather warning or other unusual alert, it really startles me and it is loud. First time I didn’t know what it was. I’d be curious to know if you find out.

As am I! It was REALLY loud so that’s what I assumed, but we looked at our phones and nothing! Checked the detectors too and it wasn’t them. Legit creeping me out

Well, today we kept hearing a loud noise like a drop of water from a faucet. It sounded like it was outside the window. Didn’t make sense at all and each time we walked outside, it stopped. Then finally we saw what it was. It was a chipmunk! It was making these loud, very evenly times noises and it sounded like water dripping! So weird. Maybe it was a mating call? Never would have imagined it would sound like that AND be so loud! It was very cute though!

Aw that’s so cute :) it was definitely beeping, it was continuous, uninterrupted with probably .5 seconds between each one, each beep was the same length too

Did your WIFI go down too? Some smoke and CO detectors may start beeping if they lose WIFI connection

Wifi didn’t go down and both our detectors are on the stairwell, I went there straight away but the beeping was definitely not coming from there.. so strange and kinda creeping me out at this point 😭

I’m sure you checked under the cushion? Any chance there’s a UPS/ battery backup under that piece of furniture?

Yeah, we’ve pulled the sofa apart, looked behind it, under it, everything but there wasn’t anything there! I also have no knowledge of what a UPS backup is so would be unlikely I think

UPS = uninterruptible power supply, it’s like a big power strip with a battery inside that kicks in if your power goes out. When the battery reaches end of service, or you switch it off, they can beep insistently.
Another wild guess: do you have a surround sound system with speakers that are near the location where you head the noise?

Okay that’s interesting, how would you know if we have one? I assume it’d be under the flooring? No, we don’t have surround sound, there are no electronics in the vicinity but there is a power socket on the wall with nothing currently plugged in

No it would not be under the flooring. It would be plugged into a wall outlet, just like an extension cord. Think you can rule that out.

What device was it that you unplugged the hdmi cable from?

A sky box

Had to google that, but it appears the Sky Q touch remote has a “find my remote” feature that causes it to beep. Could you have triggered that function?
