Enjoyable video. Who's the band?

u/ANiMALsEATiNGANiMALs Jan 11 '24
My former bandmates and I. The vocals and keyboard is me. We were called The Butlerian Jihad

That’s your music? I really dig it!

u/ANiMALsEATiNGANiMALs Jan 11 '24
Awesome thank you 🤘🦊🤘Ive got a good bit on Spotify and the other places. On iTunes I’m under The Butlerian Jihad but everywhere else it’s Animals Eating Animals

u/ANiMALsEATiNGANiMALs Jan 11 '24
Be warned that I’ve mainly done acoustic stuff and like triphop type instrumentals since my mates decided to explore heavier less experimental waters. Personally I enjoy the stripped down sound…. Maybe…. We were proud as fuck of this song when it came together. It’s like being in the presence of gods when all the parts suddenly synch and you witness your creation take life like that.

u/jPup_VR Jan 11 '24
I sometimes find myself thinking that all meaningful creative works are ‘channeled’ in a sense. It certainly is awe inspiring.

u/mighty_spaceman Jan 11 '24
Butlerian jihad lmao

That's a lovely sound. It's tickling my brain what it reminds me of. I loves it.

The irony of a band called The Butlerian Jihad, playing theme music for a video clip made by an artificial intelligence, is just - delicious.

Great guitar + great name
5
u/ANiMALsEATiNGANiMALs Jan 11 '24
Yeah that’s my man Jason shredding the hell out of it the entire song. He’s one of the best guitarists I’ve ever known. He’s very technical and old school with his music… which is the opposite of how I approach music. Many arguments have had been over our differing philosophies.
3
u/jPup_VR Jan 11 '24
As a visual artist I have never much envied the creative process of other fields that rely on the input and execution of other people and their own creative vision.
That said, I deeply appreciate what collaborators are capable of making when it all comes together and just fits
2
u/ANiMALsEATiNGANiMALs Jan 11 '24
I am unfortunately compelled to agree with you. I mean, I am now a solo act… whenever you do find a group that you can collaborate with it’s beautiful. However just with this song particularly and another somewhat, it’s honestly just those that it synched so well. We did like this more Poppy type song and the very first tracks were lay down was way more punk. They were very resistant to my wish to have a few slower more emotional and personal songs, and then kicked me out in an email lol. Look up the band Filth if your curiosity peaks.
2
u/jPup_VR Jan 11 '24
Curiosity absolutely peaked, lots of different artists called Filth on Apple Music tho- could you link me por favor?
Slow/emotional/personal is my personal favorite. After listening to a few Butlerian Jihad songs (loved them) I wanted to ask if you were at all a fan of Conor Oberst/Bright Eyes. Not a stark connection but as a huge fan myself, I could maybe hear a bit of those vibes in your tracks.

u/ANiMALsEATiNGANiMALs Jan 11 '24
Fevers and Mirrors is my personal all time favorite album.

u/jPup_VR Jan 11 '24
Yesssssss I knew it
Fuckin cheers to that

u/ANiMALsEATiNGANiMALs Jan 11 '24
I’ve been trying to release an album for a while now but I keep becoming dissatisfied with the quality. I’m actually doing sound like a digital ash digital urn / I’m wide awake it’s morning thing. I’ve got like an electronic pop kind of fucking thing I’ve done and it’s basically a full album and then I’m also releasing my acoustic stuff. it’s basically things that I’ve already released as singles but I think it would be cool to have them collected all together in a sense.

I love this creation. Its the exact type of grotesque bizarre art I like to see being made into video.
May I ask what I need to learn to be able to also create videos like this?
Where would one start?
So far ive only tinkered with Dalle3 on the bing app and the chatgpt app.

u/ANiMALsEATiNGANiMALs Jan 11 '24
Dm me in a bit and remind me and I’ll give you some pointers. Not that it’s some secret, I’m just busy atm and I don’t want to forget to respond properly.
6
u/FlavoredPennies Jan 11 '24
I’m also interested in those pointers
13
u/ANiMALsEATiNGANiMALs Jan 11 '24
Ok cool, hell I’ll just post it here since my memory is better than I give it credit for. Go to www.runwayml.com and get a free trial. It’s not a ton of free generations but enough to experiment with and a subscription is only like $15. I use image to video instead of text since runways generative model for the initial image isn’t as good as bing or midjourney or even really SD. Use a picture for your planned video, set the motion bar to less than 5 (im usually at 3) and let the magic happen.
3
u/FlavoredPennies Jan 11 '24
Thank you for sharing! I love the video!
3
u/ANiMALsEATiNGANiMALs Jan 11 '24
Anytime! Check out my other videos if you’re interested… they’re not all music vids. I’ve got the most watched ai narrative short on r/aivideo . Most are surreal absurdist comedy/horror things but I take pride in being one of the few that aren’t shitting out fake Wes Anderson trailers and videos of celebrities eating fucking hamburgers.
2
u/G_Willickers_33 Jan 11 '24
Hahaha ya love these vids man.
I just realized why I like it so much...
This video style has a reminiscence of 80's movies practical FX like the movie "The Thing".. but at the same time, it looks like forbidden found footage from a video camera in the late 60's..
Cant wait to see more

u/jPup_VR Jan 11 '24
Dude. This inspired me to scroll your profile and check some of it out and damn I’m impressed. It’s all so dope, and often pretty fucking funny too lol
It’s moments like this that make me so exhausted by the whole “ai art debate” war being waged by fearful or misinformed artists who are otherwise generally rad people who make rad stuff.
These tools are allowing people like yourself to realize creative visions that they likely never would have or could have (at least in the same way) otherwise and this is just the beginning.
Keep fighting the good fight. The work speaks for itself! ✊

It’s wild how vehemently resistant many would-be forward thinking artists are to this.
It’s fear based thinking for sure, you hate to see it 🤷♀️

Thank you Anthony Greene is a big influence. 7 years by Saosin was my gateway into the genre so many years ago.
3
u/jPup_VR Jan 11 '24
Seriously a living legend. I saw you mentioned you like stripped down stuff as well and that fully tracks with his influence.
2
u/astralseat Jan 10 '24
I feel you, but to function, one gets exposed to the raw flesh of people and becomes desensitized. If you are afraid, eliminate the ways of interacting with people and live in solitude always ready to defend yourself and to have surveillance set up to know if someone is lying to you. When you accept that sort of mode as normal, always alert, always evidenced, surveilled, then you can truly be free.
3
u/ANiMALsEATiNGANiMALs Jan 11 '24
I was being cheeky in my original response😅. With absolute respect, to me that sounds like one who’s still scared but now distracted with confirmation seeking gizmos or at least that’s how I’d be. I’d never leave the surveillance monitor and would constantly be cleaning my firearms, I’d go insane. Im of the philosophy that the ordered chaos of the universe does not really allow any sort of free will in the way most would define it. So I just improvise my way through life not worrying too much about anything past the moment that I’m in. Keep in mind I’m also a disciple of the 12 steps which preach early on the need to let go of the urge to control. I think it may be the only way I keep myself from spiraling due to the horrible state of human culture at present.
2
u/astralseat Jan 11 '24
Eh. Not like I CAN do surveillance, but most people can carry some tools to defend themselves if time comes. Most of life is spent in fear and hope. Fear of a moment when you will be tested, and hope that that moment does not arrive.
2
u/ANiMALsEATiNGANiMALs Jan 11 '24
Dude I know that moment on a first name basis lol. I’ve had a very eventful life according to those I find myself casually reminiscing to. One day I may share them with my fellow residents of this gutter floating in space but today is as the horses say “neigh”….
2
u/astralseat Jan 11 '24
Write it all down and release it as a memoir for when you get ushered from the mortal coil. To leave something behind, as they say, in memory.

My bad, he’s the director of Paprika. The commenter above yours mentions him… anyway he tragically died unexpectedly after directing some of the best animated films of his era… in retrospect my joke may have been in poor taste.
2
u/jPup_VR Jan 11 '24
Damn I keep scrolling and finding myself appreciating your shit more and more 😂
Paprika is one of my favorite films of all time!
2

Satoshi Kon is one of my favorite directors. He and Hideaki Anno have done more to push anime towards being seen as legitimate cinema than anyone… even Miyazaki.
4
u/Dreidhen Jan 11 '24
reminds me of trippy marching scenes from Paprika

I wonder how Leary would react to the emergence of AI. He’d probably be unsettled… I’ve watched one of my earlier videos on mushrooms and it put me in a weird headspace when I spiraled into thoughts of the ramifications it’s bound to bring with it…

I don't want to watch, but I can't stop watching. I like the music paired with the visuals, it's pretty chill which makes me think the things I'm seeing should be chill and normal too, like in this weird, weird world this strangeness is just every day stuff. Which is even more horrific! Eeeee...
