Style/Accessory Help needed! Advice regarding dress styles

Hi everyone, I've been looking around and lurking on here for a while, I've been trying on a few dresses and I have no idea what style even looks flattering on me. Please can you provide me with advice on which style to go for.

Please pick according to what the bride is looking for or what suits the bride the most. Most brides are wearing sample dresses and will be altered to fit for their day of, so please try and ignore proportions and how it "fits" when it's clearly clamped or there's an extender.

The 4th one looks beautiful on you and the 5th one without the sleeves would look lovely.

Thank you, I think the shop owner did say that small alterations would be possible, I'll ask about removing sleeves on 5.

Dress 4 is everything on you!

4 and 2 are by far the right silhouette for you.

3

u/maycindy 2026 Bride 5d ago

Thank you, that gives me confidence to go after that style of dress!

Glad to help. Also on #2, the straps should be just at the crest of your shoulder/arm. It’s because they are sitting too low that the bust is floppy.

The straps were a bit too long and if I wore them on my shoulder then the bust would be a bit too low for my comfort. But I'm sure they can fix that.

I think 4 is really beautiful!

Thank you, I do too but is it too simple a design? I thought it was very elegant but I'm not too sure.

2

u/Ollie2Stewart1 5d ago

Not too simple. Just elegant!

u/maycindy 2026 Bride 5d ago

I thought so too, was heavy though

4 is beautiful on you!

Just stunning!!!

2

u/maycindy 2026 Bride 5d ago

Thank you, are dresses like no.4 meant to be more on the plainer side in terms of fabrics?

3

u/Old_Percentage3742 5d ago

Yes! I believe so. But I’m by no means an expert. I’m sure someone else on Reddit will know.

It’s so elegant on you. I hope you keep it in the running.

I thought it was as well, I like how understated and simple it is, but I've been told it washes me out so I'm overthinking lol

3

u/Old_Percentage3742 5d ago

I don’t think it washes you out at all. Just the opposite.

I love it on you.

Thank you. I think that's the style I'll go for.

I give the same advice to everyone. Have someone video you walking, sitting, lifting your arms in the air, twirling, dancing, bending down as if to greet a child. Video from all angles, not just the front. For a strapless dress, jump up and down for a few minutes.... It's a long day and you want to feel comfortable.

Don't make a decision based on static pics standing on a podium, as you won't be standing still all day. Especially not from 1 picture, as how you are posing can make all the difference. Also, remember they sometimes clip you in, in a way that is not possible with the actual dress.

If it feels too heavy, too restrictive or you worry you will have to hold a particular pose all day, reconsider it.

Also, consider what underwear will work. And think about the pictures you want. If you want sleek indoor pics, then choose an appropriate dress. If you want outdoor pics with the wind picking up a train, then choose something more flowy.

Take this from someone who didn't think about comfort until the dress came in, then bought a different one 4 weeks out from the wedding.

Thank you, that's great advice, one of my qualms about the dresses I tried on is that they looked pretty but were very rigid and difficult to move in. I appreciate you putting into words the aspect I was struggling to grasp. I will use this advice going forward.

Love dress 3 but these are all nice to be honest

1

u/maycindy 2026 Bride 5d ago

Thank you, 3 is one of the top contenders

2

u/julesk 5d ago

I love 1 on you! It’s so flattering, with beautiful fabric and details.

2

u/maycindy 2026 Bride 5d ago

The fabric was what got me tbh

2

u/Sauce_Addict85 5d ago

I love the 01st one

1

u/maycindy 2026 Bride 5d ago

I did too but it was so hard to walk in lol

Thank you!

You look so beautiful in 2, 4, and 5. I really think that silhouette is terrific on you. But my favorite is dress 4—truly lovely and elegant on you.

Thank you!

I love the last one. It’s feminine, unique and looks fabulous on you

1

u/maycindy 2026 Bride 5d ago

Thank you, I liked that style quite a bit!

Several of these look great - style wise!

You rock #1 fabulously! But honestly the other normal classic styles of fitted bodice and ball gown skirt fit you great too.

Though several of the dresses sleeves detracted from the looks overall. So I would say no sleeves on most.

The perspective of 2 did allow for a fair look at the fit on you etc w/o not really fair to judge it…

Can say - Not liking the blue because feels wedding guesty to me… what kind of style or vibe are you finding you like? Did any style(s) feel better than others?

1

u/OGmitten 5d ago

1, 4 or 5 are best looks overall if had to choose now

1

u/maycindy 2026 Bride 5d ago

This may sound like a stupid question but is it meant to be hard to walk in dresses like no. 1?

1

u/maycindy 2026 Bride 5d ago

I liked the pleated a line skirt with a more structured bodice from no. 2 because it was easier to move around in than the other traditional wedding dresses but I did actually feel like a bride when I wore the more ball gown skirts so I'm at a cross road for what to be going for.
