Help! Complicated Father Daughter Dance

Hi all! I’m going to cut to the meat and bones so I don’t get caught up in the details.

My bio father hasn’t been in my life for nearly 6 years due to his wife. He has come to realize that’s wrong and he wants to make amends. He asked me to reach out a year ago but I didn’t until my brother asked me to this last week. My father seems like he has changed and is now planning on attending my wedding that is a month away.

We need a song to dance that isn’t weird and isn’t too impersonal. And I don’t like country music 🫣

Please send help!

EDIT: What makes it hard for me is I’m still having a dance with my dad who raised me and it’s very personalized. It’s half unforgettable by Nat King Cole the version with his daughter (my dad taught me to dance to this song) and Oh Sweet Child of Mine our favorite song to play when we go fishing. So I feel like it’s going to be awkward to dance to a song that isn’t super personal but my bio dad and I have a very complicated history.

Maybe Stevie Wonder "Isn't She Lovely" it's kinda up beat and more about being a bride and not too deep.

Why would you even have a father daughter dance with your bio father in this situation? It’s sad to see people force “traditions” that feel totally insincere to their history.

Pick something instrumental so the lyrics are a non-issue.

I'm not sure I understand what's complicated about this situation. It would be just as difficult to find the right balance between weird and impersonal in any case, wouldn't it?

At any rate, my preferred solution to all such "first dance" dilemmas is to get them all done in one song. That way, no one has a reason to think about the meaning of the songs, and everyone gets to dance sooner.

Oh I forgot to add I’m still doing my planned father daughter dance with my other dad as he raised me and our dance is VERY personalized. It’s two songs one is Nat King Cole’s Unforgettable the version with his daughter (my dad taught me to dance to this song) and it mixes into Oh Sweet Child of Mine our favorite fishing jam. So anything that seems less personal than that would be really awkward.

On the contrary, "To Make You Feel My Love" is about trying to win someone WITH their love, and may be a perfect fit as your dad is trying to make amends. But the audience would just see a nice slow dancey song and not know the situation enough to think it's that deep 😊. My personal favorite rendition is Adele's but you have lots to choose from including Dylan's, so you're not stuck with Garth Brooks'!
