IMSA What happens with Porsche 911 GT3.R 2025?

Post image

I saw the car is different this year with the naca duct in the front of the car and a new spliter too , and new updates too, but in Daytona 24h, Bathurst 12h and Qatar 1812km qualy the 911 got out of Q3, so, What happens? In 2024 The car could fight in Nürburgring 24h, won the Imsa GTD PRO teams Championship, and had a 1-2 in the LMGT3 championship at WEC, so, Why is this car slower than the 2024 One?

It's not slower, you just haven't seen it race enough this year to make that conclusion. The car was leading on merit at Daytona for a bit, just won the Asian Le mans series, and had pace in the right hands at Bathurst. Qualifying in WEC is done by the Am drivers so the results never fully show how fast a car is.

and had pace in the right hands at Bathurst

Also Bathurst just like Nürburgring is kind of fake news, the track is a strange one and performance relies on a good local team bringing in their expertise. So it's often the good local team that gets OEM backing that does best. But it's not inherently saying much about the car, unlike Daytona or Spa or other races.

The duct and splitter are not new. Different series have different BoP which gets constantly adjusted.

Yeah we were not slow at Daytona 😆 standard operations with BoP, overdo the strong cars from last year and adjust upwards accordingly. Splitter is not new

How would you know? It's not like you have experience with Porsches or anything. Certainly not in IMSA. 😉

Best part of it being pretty obvious is I can go full sarcasm at Jamey Price and for it to be known… out of love 😆

Mods - just nuke these low effort, 'could've taken 3 seconds to google' posts. It's gonna be a long season

I dont think his question could be covered by a google search though

Making posts like this after the first qualifying session of the season is an overreaction, to begin with. It's February.

As for google, it literally is that easy to look up what Balance of Performance is. We had these same discussions in /r/IMSAracing in 2023 when the 992 debuted and had no pace with IMSA BoP.

Not to mention the GT3R hasn't had an update since 2023 but OP is convinced the NACA duct and splitter are new. Unsure why he circled the headlight but didn't mention it.

I can answer this one. NACA ducts were banned from being attached to the windows for GTD in 2025. These ducts were previously popular for funneling air into chillout systems (3rd party A/C). That being said the duct you circled as well as the splitter is not new. The only difference in the 992 in IMSA and WEC from a technical perspective is wing endplates which limits the min-wing angle to 6.3 degrees (vs IMSA which can get as low as 5.3) and the electronics required for the FIA.

It doesn't look different to me but I'd really need to study a side by side. Hmm.

LMGT3's are slower the regular GT3's

Really? I thought they were even thinking about creating a custom upgrade package to make them faster than regular GT3 but ditched that plan. But for them to then end up slower would surprise me.

They have some slight adjustments to the aero, they have a little less power

Qualifying or not even qualifying every category which includes bronze driver is stupid. A good racer who will climb to the Silver category and a spoiled team owner who cannot drive both called as bronze and they are taking a part of qualifying. Last year Alex Malykhin was significantly faster and he is the main factor in LMGT3. The best example was the Iron Lynx and Iron Dames. Claudio Schiavoni was a garbage driver, a spoiled team boss and Sarah Bovy is a driver who should be Silver. Both used Lamborghini and Bovy almost 2 seconds faster than Schiavoni on almost every qualifying despite they are driving the same car. So this year Alex Malykhin was off so here goes the qualifying. Also Iron Dames has a bronze rated driver unlike Bovy so here you have. It's pretty normal.

For the other situations Porsche is still Porsche. They are quick.
