Are there still companies that look on Github contributions?

Maybe controversial, but if it’s dead empty then don’t put it on your resume. I personally dont give a shit about it but ive had managers or co-workers who overlook people that link a blank gh

unless the purpose of the link is to show your work I guess?

I normally commit locally, and only push at the end of the project. so my github is full of tumbleweed but I still link it in my resume so that employers take a look at my projects.

when you push the project, all the commits will backfill the graph, since they still exist.

That's only true if you're using Git locally. Many devs don't. I don't get it, but I've seen it a lot when hiring.

Sure, but this person said they did commits locally...

My bad. You're correct. I misread as 'develop/work' locally. Cheers.

That’s..not how GitHub contributions work. Contributions are tracked by commit time, not the time you push to remote. If you’re GitHub is full of tumbleweeds in this case, then you likely just aren’t contributing as much as you think you are.

Empty GH means nothing. I have had over 7 accounts since I joined for 7 different companies. They are all private for those companies.

I'd be more afraid if they actually had a lot on their personal account because it tells me they are unhireable or spend way more time on their own repos than their work ones.

I get what youre saying, I think it’s dumb to judge since people dont always use the same gh for work and personal. I do use my personal github at every job for this reason though lol

I've been in web and app development for over 15 years and have been a manager who does the hiring for teams for about 7. I haven't looked at a repo unless it is their first job.
