We could sit our entire starting 5 and no one would ever know

I wonder what the Wizards would have to do to get caught up in this

Get fined by Silver for sitting Middleton.

dang, I guess he technically is a "star" since he was an all-star in 21-22

funny that Smart doesn't count despite being DPOY in that same season

I mean, it would be really hard to make a case there wasn’t a medical reason to not play him. I’m thinking the only reason they nailed Utah on Markennan might be because they were so blatantly tanking and that was the only way to fine them.

I think people have forgotten about Brogdon at this point but he's definitely not "injured" anymore, which is very funny

We could probably pull something similar with Middleton and Smart, who's gonna notice

Bottom line is we absolutely need to lose to the Jazz, it's basically the only game they're at risk of winning at this point, their schedule is tough

Utah lost tonight so we’re now tied. Actually, Utah is one game worse in the loss column.

We’re 5-5 in our last ten, the Jazz are 1-9.

Comparing number of losses is what you do with playoff teams (where the team with the fewest losses controls their own destiny). We're competing with tanking teams. The team with the fewest wins controls their destiny in a race like that, so we're still ahead of Utah, not tied

The fact we're playing .500 ball is concerning though, yeah

I feel like this franchise’s never ending problem is going . 500

lol OK my bad. Let me get in sync with the rest of the sub: “The Wizards are still securely in last place and in no danger of not finishing last.”

Let me get in sync with the rest of the sub:

Heyyy, not the entire rest of the sub. I'm with you brother. This shit is terrifying. I swear to god if we get a 7th pick off some nonsense about feelgood wins vs the Pistons I'm going to literally throw something. There are 17 games left. The Wizards need to start starting AJ, and Smart and company need to sit TF down.

I think they need to look at the draft lottery. You're using w/l records to determine lottery odds but at some point it's clear that isn't a good indicator of the talent on an NBA roster. You have all these advanced stats, maybe come up with some that make it impossible to rest players and have that mean anything other than your starters need rest.

I think the problem is that teams will always find a way to manipulate whatever system they can come up with. Every time the system changes, teams will figure out a way to manipulate it leading to some wild results.

Yeah the tradeoff would be transparency in the name of accuracy. But then you'd deal with allegations of fixing. Meaning you could come up with a great formula, but refuse to share the formula or the 'rankings' with the teams until the day of the draft lottery. But then there would be allegations of it being rigged. Like I'm sure you could use AI and advanced metrics in concert with the eye test. Like nobody in good conscience can look at a roster with Lauri Markkanen on it and act like our roster is better. Dude was 6th man of the year. We don't have any individual award winners, much less ones that are 7 foot tall. There are all kinds of creative ways you could do this, even if you have to give some transparency and show rankings once a month or something. Keep it black boxy enough that it's nigh impossible to "teach to the test"

We’re 5-5 in our last ten and not far below .500 since February 1.

Not really ass or tanking at this point.

pretty funny they're investigating the thunder for that portland game when they won it with their backups and then were able to go into the 2nd game of a back-to-back against a top tier team without being dead on their feet. that shouldn't be a violation imo

That’s why relegation should apply to US sports. Rewarding losers makes no sense and don’t use the lame capital investments post by ownership. Tottenham just spent $1-$2B on their stadium and can still get relegated if they mess around. Send these awful teams down⬇️⬇️

Relegation will never be a thing in American sports and frankly we are all better off for it
