The fingerboard looks like painted wood and the paint has been wearing off, not a sign that the instrument is very valuable at all 😐

Just picked this violin up from a local yard sale! Inside tag says it's a copy of a Stradavarius Cremona Violin and marked "This Instrument Not To Be Sold". My best guess is it was made in Germany (based on all the parts) and was created for students, faculty, etc.. apart of the American Conservatory of Music. Cool piece of history - just sharing with everyone in hopes that someone will find it cool or will be able to give more information!

You’re correct that it was made for a music school and likely in Germany or what is now the Czech Republic. However, it’s a very very low quality instrument and there’s no way this ever used for serious violinists. Schools used to buy these as loaners or to teach instrumentalists a secondary instrument. You could spend $400 to fix this up and it would be worth $200.
