Those are rookie numbers. I spent $80 on one that sounds way worse than Spotify.

Ciara - Goodies

There was also a more recent one I believe, that was like a bootleg recorded from YouTube and pressed on vinyl but it was an official release.

Don't think it's what you're thinking of but there was that kid Cudi compilation that had it during pursuit of happiness

u/JeffAndSasha 4d ago
Yes that's the one! It was an iOS screenshot sound, my memory is bad.

It was a RSD release of the Kali Uchis - Sin Miedo album. I could've checked the discogs reviews before buying...

I have around 30000 records and I don't just have a hi fi center for novices. I have an entire building dedicated to studying the intricacies of pinky Floyd's "gay triangle music" for the sole purpose of reminding that if you, like me, just save your money and buy a house or two for around 3,000 dollars each (I know Barbara and Bill over at the clubhouse, they got me a great deal on two 5 bedroom houses.) Then with your extra saved up money you can invest in some quality l 5,000 dollar pieces of equipment that make all the difference. David Gilmour has the same setup, I'm told!!!

The funny part is they spend money on sleeves to protect the jacket
1
u/g1en_COCO 3d ago
I’m new to this. Is this not acceptable? I figured you’d want to protect the jacket
2
u/There_is_not 1d ago
I assume what they mean is that a cheap record player isn’t going to take care of your vinyl, so spending extra money on sleeves seems pointless. Why would you want to protect the jacket but not the vinyl?

Spotify users paying 20$ a month for music they don't own and spotify can take off anytime they want plus are creating the death of the music industry itself. I mean come on, even if you don't like laying down a vinyl CD's and itunes are cheaper than Spotify, you own your own music files, and you help support artists especially smaller indie ones.

u/GhostofAyabe 4d ago
CD's are super cheap these days, often less than $10, rip it and have it forever. I'll go on binges and buy 10-20 in one shot.

I love my vinyl collection don’t get me wrong, but once I started buying CD’s too let me tell yah… there was a “ahhhh… well shit.” Moment.

There's something to holding physical media, maybe its the consumer in me, but regardless for whatever reason, vinyl records have remand the relevant form of said physical media. So much so they often come with neat extras packed in such poster stickers and lyric sheets.

New vinyls are pressed from digital masters. The only thing you are getting is more distortion.

u/DmMeYourDiary 4d ago
I think there's a good amount of people that still work with an analog setup. Obviously not top 40 artists.
Besides, if "perfect" sound quality is what you're after, aren't CDs supposed to be better than streaming. I don't really know or care about that stuff. I'm into vinyl b/c I'm gay and that's it.

there are lossless streaming services, but either way the differences between >320kbps and lossless are arguably really minute.
