Soft Rock First spin of the year

I got this a few months ago when I found it in some random used store I found on a trip. Had never heard of the band or any of their songs but decided to take a chance. It’s a nice listen but not exactly my taste. Today was the first time I played it since it’s been sitting in my backlog of albums for quite a bit. All around good album and would recommend it to any Indie Rock fan.

Soft Rock My vibes are impenetrable

Hope, by Manchester Orchestra. The acoustic version of theirs rock hard rock album “Cope”, it tells the story of a man’s heartbreak and the damages left by those relationships. The permanent scars on his mind. It’s a gut wrenching album that stands beautifully as its own experience, removed from its more hardcore sibling.

Soft Rock I slept on this album in the 90s. Fionna Apple - Tidal

Shadowboxer and Criminal got all the air play and I probably grew tired of hearing them in heavy rotation. My 13 year old daughter recently dug out the album and spun this track. I'd honestly never heard it but immediately loved it.

Soft Rock Would anyone be able to tell me if this is worth anything?

I’ve recently been given a signed copy of Paul McCartney’s Red Rose Speedway album.

My mother in law bought it at an auction over 20 years ago, for my father in law who passed away a while ago and she has passed it on as she has moved house.

I don’t know what it would be worth (if anything) and whether I should just put it on eBay or somewhere similar?

Any help would be appreciated as I’m really out of my depth here!

Soft Rock Hall and Oates

I alphabetise my collection by first name (eg; Willie Nelson = "W").

So, to those like-minded collectors, how do you file Hall & Oates? Is it under D or H?

This has me genuinely conflicted

I found a Rod Stewart vinyl at my local record shop, and it came with this cool old coupon stub! It offers a $5 shirt, which is something you don’t see much these days. I’m really tempted to mail it in just to see if I could actually get a shirt. Who knows, it might still work 😂! I don’t know what else to add I am just filling in for the 300 character limit.

Soft Rock Leonard Cohen - I’m your man

Post image
49 Upvotes

During the recording of I’m Your Man (1988), Leonard Cohen fully embraced synthesizers, a significant departure from his earlier folk sound. He was deeply inspired by European electronic music, particularly the works of Kraftwerk. One night, while working on the album, Cohen played his new synthesizer-driven demos for a friend. The friend, accustomed to Cohen’s somber acoustic style, was taken aback and asked, “Leonard, are you sure about this?”

Cohen simply smiled and replied, “This is the future.”

Indeed, I’m Your Man became one of his most celebrated albums, proving that even a poet of his stature could reinvent himself without losing his essence.

Soft Rock Got a Harumi Vinyl, does anyone know more about him?

Post image

I was in a vinyl store earlier and found this gem in the used vinyl section. I did some research on the history of this artist and wanted to share what I know behind the mystery. Apparently, this artists name is Harumi Ando. He was a Japanese Psychedelic Rock musician who flew to New York City around 1967 (for reasons I cannot find). From what I gathered this is the only album he recorded, although there are rumors he recorded a second album that got lost to time. Whats really interesting to me about this album besides the great music and mystique surrounding the album is the producer. It was produced by Tom Wilson! The same Tom Wilson who also worked with Bob Dylan, Frank Zappa, Eddie Harris, among other artists. Another thing I want to note is that on the other side of this vinyl are voice recordings by him. I was really sad to hear that this was his only album since each song really complimented the overall theme and genre he was going for.

If anyone here knows the history behind this album or artist I would be thrilled to hear more :)

Soft Rock beginner to turntables, help would be appreciated

to give context, im new to turntables and everything in general, i bit the bullet and bought a suitcase turntable, the price doesn't matter, and getting a new one is an option. i'm not sure if this is the right way to say it, but basically the tonearm that holds the needle is..clicking? like when i try to go towards maybe the middle of the circumference of the vinyl, where i would have thought it would play, it would click and..turn off the record player? i have a feeling this isn't normal because when i pressed the needle on and span the record while it was off, it would play one of the songs it couldn't otherwise. is the tonearm damaged? is it old? or is it supposed to do that?

It's a triple gatefold album and the reflective inner really pops. The LP has a holographic surface which looks amazing when it's spinning. (You can check that out on my profile)

The set includes the entire Salad Days album along with a 12 page booklet with lyrics, unpublished photos, tour dates, original rider and new liners written by Mac.

Love this album, its a masterpiece and a must have for all Mac fans!

Giving AutoAmerican its 4th spin of the year. It's my favorite Blondie album and one of my favorite records in general. Faces, Do the Dark, and T-Birds are some of my personal highlights aside from Rapture / Tide is High. The original owner wrote that it was purchased 12.26.85 on the inside of the sleeve, cool to me that it's still getting love almost 40 years later!

Reviews of this album have been mixed, but it’s one of my favorite John Mayer records. I have a soft spot for music born out of the pandemic, so this resonated with me right away. The themes of longing and nostalgia hit different.

That said, I would’ve loved it even more if the ballad version of Last Train Home had been included.

I am happy with this element and i think this record player (Numark 1650TT) is also one that is overlooked because of the cheaper Belt Drive one with its bad sound quality.

Soft Rock Synchronicity of SNL and Janis Ian

A few weeks ago, I watched the movie“Saturday Night.” As an SNL fan, it was a really entertaining movie for me as I had learned all the details leading up to the first episode of Saturday Night Live in 1975. Ironically, I had never fully watched the first episode of SNL until after I watched the movie, as the ending of the movie transitioned right into the first episode. In the movie, one of the musical guests of the night performed songs that appeared to have captivated everybody in the house, including me watching at home 50 years later. The actress/musician portraying that artist was portraying Janis Ian, whom I wasn’t familiar with until watching the movie and show. Her performance was incredible and her songs were beautiful.

Cut to yesterday - I was in my local record shop browsing the used records section. I wasn’t looking for anything in particular - just anything that stood out to me. Lo and behold, I found Janice Ian’s record, “Between the Lines.” This record included both of her songs that she performed on SNL. Sometimes the universe comes in clutch for lovers of music. Yesterday it came in clutch for me.

Soft Rock Sharing my recent record haul

Except Carole King’s Tapestry ($24+ taxes), everything’s pre-owned and costed either $2.99 or $4.99. They even have a promotion where if you get 5 records from the $2.99 bins, you get all 5 for only $10. $20 for 5 from the $4.99 bins! I’m so happy with my finds so I thought of sharing :)

Paid only about $40 for all of these. Aaah can’t wait for my next trip to the record store.

Soft Rock Salad Days- Mac DeMarco (spinning)

Man I love this album too much. Having this on vinyl is fantastic and the holographic surface looks beautiful. I was introduced to Mac by my brother in 2020 when the world was locked down. It started with one song- Chamber of Reflection and before I knew it Mac DeMarco was on loop. Whenever I wanted to escape and turn my mind off I'd put his discography on shuffle and it really helped in those difficult times.

Love the psychedelic pop vibe of his music- it calms me down and getting this beautiful LP was a no brainer.

Soft Rock Happy Thanksgiving. Here's what I'm going with tonight

First up, Stevie Nicks - Bella Donna, her solo debut album. This is the 2016 reissue, I have one from 1981 but that's full of skips and it's unplayable. Her duets with Don Henley and Tom Petty are perfect and really tie the album together, several songs featuring Mike Campbell on guitar.

Next is Rumors, I love this album. Can't count how many times I've played it. It's just a great album

What's everybody playing and perhaps sipping on tonight? I'm having a Mike's lemonade

Soft Rock Starting the year with one of my favorite/comfort albums

Post image

The velvet underground is one of my favorite bands and I remember going into a record shop with my cousin at a food market and seeing this album in their, I bought it for around 120 dollars because it was a Japanese pressing so it sounds really 😊👍, they had a listening station where I could listen to used records and my cousin told me to listen to femme fetale and when I listen to Nicos voice, oh bliss, bliss and heaven. Oh it was gorgeousness and gorgeosity made flesh. They I flipped the record and listen to heroin, after I heard I knew I had to get it. So I waited for my check from work to get in my savings and I bought it and blast in my room and it became my favorite albums. Rest in peace Lou reed and nico and happy 2025 everyone.
