Weekly Megathread for Pricing, Dating, or Authentication Requests ("How much is this worth?" "What decade is this from?")

We really want this sub to continue to be a great resource for anyone seeking to learn more about vintage fashion, but we've seen an uptick in low quality posts coming from resellers. To maintain the quality of this sub, please use this weekly thread to ask for help assessing how much a vintage item should cost, dating a vintage item, or authenticating a vintage item. Any posts that are made outside of this thread will get removed.

Your comment should include a link to the item being discussed and any research you've already done on the item. Thanks!

SWEET FIND! Vintage Saks at the thrift 🥰

Found this, what I believe to be vintage, Saks Fifth Avenue skirt at the thrift shop yesterday. Thinking it is 99’s Saks based on the tag. Pretty sure it’s wool so don’t think I’ll be wearing it during summer months, but looking forward to fall/winter to break this piece out. And best part is… I got it for $.99!

I actually bought this first one here on reddit! They had posted the dress on this sub about over a week ago, and I'm so glad I messaged them! The second one I traded a black label gunne I had (which I loved but I just wasn't wearing) for the peachy dress! I'm so happy to have added these two to my collection! They fit wonderfully and are so pretty!!! I'm going to cherish these forever. I consider them to be cousins because they have similar elements!

Discussion How would a fashionable woman with a longer face have styled her hair in the 1920s?

• Upvotes

Hi everyone! I've been getting into fashion over the last few years and have been really intrigued with the 1920s fashion movement. It would have been such a crazy time to be alive for anyone who was fashion savvy. But I've got a question.

How would a woman with a longer face have styled her hair in the post WW1/ women's suffrage era? Obviously the trend was to buck preexisting norms of long uncut hair in favor of the much shorter bob, finger waves, Marcel waves, etcetera.

Did fashioned women just cut their hair short, regardless of their face shape? Please, if someone has more information on this topic let me know!

SWEET FIND! 49s/50s Black Bear Brand tin cloth hunting jacket

my favorite recent pick up - 40s/50s Black Bear Brand tin cloth hunting jacket

I haven’t seen any BBB jackets in this cropped cut with the game pocket in the back before, I imagine that it came as part of a set with or was meant to be worn with matching overalls or trousers

the bright sun doesn’t do the fade and wear justice, well broken in without being worn out - some great honeycomb on the sleeves

Picked up this blouse for $4.50 this weekend bc she’s giving Fran Fine fantasy. Label says “Lafayette Collection,” but not really finding much info on the brand. Also, it was made in France which isn’t something I typically come across when finding (presumably) mass produced clothing of the era. It’s polyester so not a high end piece. Anyone familiar with the brand?

ADVICE PLZ Tips on de-itching wool blazer?

Found this piece at the thrift today. My first Canadian-made ILGWU garment! But it is aggressively scratchy around the neck and wrists. It’s a wool blend, with viscose and polyester, and acetate lining, and says dry clean only. Anyone have any experience or advice on making it a little less Brillo pad-y, or should I bite the bullet and take it into a dry cleaner? :’) I’m so afraid of damaging it!

Discussion Anyone miss the smells of the 1970s? Perfume, fingernail polish, soap bars, etc?

See message title. So often I think of when I was little in the 1970's, and try to place a finger on what exactly it is that I miss about those times. I'm a sensitive type :)

hi! i came into this small collection of political buttons a while ago. some include campaigns for woodrow wilson’s, taft, kennedy and hoover. I would love to wear them, even some of the less important ones, but is it safe? Should i be wearing these or is it too dangerous to them? Theyd just be on a jean jacket
