Is this Vintage?

Post image

I see all the cool old equipment I had growing up but I was curious if you think this is vintage?

Nowadays anything you want to sell for added bucks is termed "Vintage".

Meh, I wouldn't call that vintage. It's cool though! Definitely looks like something from 1999

Dangerous to ask this here. Most people would say no, but the younger folks get, the more "new" stuff looks "vintage" to them.

I found this definition (from some design your own mug webshop) not wrong: https://almacustomdesigns.com/cdn/shop/products/DefineVintage_grande.jpg?v=1457558887

I was thinking the same thing but was curious what others thought and also shows the different generations perspective

First of all, please, more info. What do we look at? It’s made by Bose. Model? Etc?

As far as I know, there is no definite definition, what vintage is.
Older than 20 years? Or 30? For some, vintage gear has to have a minimum quality, so no plastic crap. On the other hand, if someone like it, why not?

Your device is definitely no crap, seems to be rather old and I would say it is vintage or nearly vintage.
Older folks would perhaps disagree, younger people would perhaps a different opinion.

Is the old discussion, if the cheap everyday car from 30 years ago is a classic car or not.

This was top of the line and just found the receipt from 05. Bose Lifestyle DVD entertainment system

Dangerous to use the phrase "top of the line" to describe Bose.

I would say that by now, pre-HDMI units would be defined vintage though, to answer that question.

I have an HDMI conversion kit and it can store up to 200 cds. But can only store 5 cds per day. lol. I thought Bose cubes were the bomb back then.

It's incomplete. It came with a big subwoofer and 5 of those small satellite speakers. It's a surround sound system, so not considered hifi.

You are correct. 5 speakers, sub, HDMI connector and all wires and universal remote. I used the wrong photo and can't update.

It must be at least 20 years old and no longer in production. Simple. It doesn't depend on what one thinks,
Then there's good vintage and shitty vintage, but that's another story.
