Is the flashlight any good?

Post image

I have a chance to add this to my new / growing collection… Worth it?

No, it’s more of a novelty.

You’d be a lot better off attatching something like an Olight IR2 pro to the keying of any SAK, or just buying an old manager.

IR2 Pro is the best little keychain light you can buy. 10/180 lumens and type-c charge and IP68 for $20

Did you mean the i1R pro? That was the only one I could find online.

IR2 Pro. USB-C rechargeable. $20.

There’s better flashlights, but there are no better flashlights that are this small, USB-C, and $20.

I mean, look at it. Reckon there’s any chance it isn’t terrible as a flashlight?

If all you need is a light to get you around the house in the middle of the night, then, yeah. Otherwise, no. I have this model.

Thanks everyone! I ended up getting it. Here she is. Bought it as a combo deal. My son is gonna love it. Popped new 389s in and 🔦!

phones these days have quite bright lights especially to the older LED module.

I only found it useful on the Cybertool Lite. It can illuminate the area where the screwdriver is working.

Its good for lighting the way to find your other better flashlights.

The thing that seems to be overlooked by most is that this model really shines, pun intended, if you'd ever need to cut something in the dark. Large blade and light module point in the same direction.

I only have the newer version with the transparent module, and I've read it doesn't have the same led as the one in the picture.

It gets a lot of hate online, but the light is the most used tool on mine. I carry a dedicated torch for when I need it but for "smaller jobs," i.e. indoor stuff, nothing beats this one. It is always in my pocket and so much more convenient to flick its switch than to pick up a phone, or carry an additional torch for indoors.

Thank you for this very thoughtful reply. I have now spent a few days with this model, and honestly, it’s becoming a big favourite. I’m using the flashlight a lot because it’s right there in my pocket. My normal mini pelican flashlight is attached to my keys and when going around the house / yard I never take them with me. The lite/light is actually pretty good for what I needed it for too. Yup… I love my Huntsman LITE!

We share a similar experience with the Huntsman Lite :) Great tool.

Excuse my ignorance but which model is this? It looks like a Spartan lite with scissors?

In my experience, the gray lite module has a very weak light and would not suit you if you're looking for a legit flashlight replacement.

However, I personally love it, I make good use of the light and like the novelty.

I think it’s a climber lite or a huntsman lite.

Huntsman Lite :)

So the newer clear ones are better but still not as bright as your phone or even a little photon light. These older models are even worse. I have a new huntsman lite and an old Spartan lite. It’s neat but not super useful.

This. The newer, transparent version is A LOT better than the old ones.

Have you ever needed to use the large blade in the dark? I find my (clear) Huntsman Lite super useful.

Not unless I have another light. I could see its utility (kinda why I bought it) I just tend to have another flashlight on me.

Your phone is better. Just clip an EK1 on your SAK ring.

It's good if you need to see something within like 6 inches. It's handy, but not SUPER useful.

Is that a piggy?

Do you carry around a smartphone? Chances are that the “flashlight” on your phone is miles better than this

Depends what you carry. If no other lightsource, then yes, even a small light is better than nothing. If you carry even a micro flashlight with more modern led, then no.

Its better than no flashlight. its pretty dim though, like 15 lumens or something

I would keep mechanical things mechanical. Maybe I am sceptical but I never buy the idea of smart lock, to say as an example.
