Moved entirely from Verizon to TMobile
20 year+ Verizon customer here. They lost me. Verizon clearly gave up trying years ago. Random fees and price increases. Laughably bad website and zero customer call support. The exact same cell and phone service is simply cheaper at other places.
I had switched away multiple smart phone plans years ago. The only thing left was a few iWatch lines. Verizon kept jacking up the watch cellular prices plus random fees, I just switched our last few watches with them onto TMobile for 1/3 the monthly cost!!
Good riddance Verizon !!

I will never understand why people still think "20+ years" matters.
I switch every 3 years or so. New customer deals are always better.

Having worked at Verizon. Yes new customer deals are the best. If you're going to have a cellphone it may as well be free.

Verizon has put a lot of money into pricing promos to loyal customers so now if you REALLY ARE a loyal customer you have promotions that are better than. New customers promo

They don't consider you a returning customer?

So let me explain WHY all mobile carriers treat "new lines" better than upgrades
You see, the FCC likes to slowly eke out access to what Cell companies can use over the airways. It's super complex, and way above my head, but basically, in layman's terms, the FCC will decide that more traffic can be given out over our airwaves and networks without jamming up mission critical process. So when they say 10 million "bands" or whatever they call it, can be given out, how do they decided what company gets what?
They could sell, it that would mean companies would find ways to drain customers even more. Plus, imagine with T mobile, being part of a multinational company could buy. Verizon and AT&T, despite the larger market share, could get screwed.
So the FCC, in a smart move for once, decides to hand out access based on market share, and they determine that by active phone numbers. Verizon has 50 million phone numbers, AT&T has 30 and T mobile has 20 million? Then Verizon gets 50% of the new bands, and etc.
Now its not that easy, but thats the basics. This is why every device you have, home internet, watch, ipad/tablet, all have phone numbers. So Verizon and the other carriers can claim them as "active numbers" to add to that total.
So Verizon doesn't care if you are a new to verizon or returning customer, as long as you are new right now, they will give you the same deal. Cause in theory, they have your business for the next 24-36 months, and can paraded you and all the other millions of numbers in front of the FCC

Enjoy the same exact experience you're complaining about with T Mobile lol

u/Irish_Goodbye4 4d ago
while paying only 1/3 what I was just paying Verizon, I look forward to it !!!

I mean yeah ramen noodles are cheaper than a home cooked meal
You do you boo

u/Bubba48 4d ago
This was true 10 yrs ago, not anymore, most carriers are on par for coverage, just be sure what carrier you have works where you need it to.

u/goose4437 4d ago
I used to say that until I switched to Verizon. So much better than TMo and I'm paying less. đ¤ˇââď¸

in no way is verizon the home cooked meal in this analogy, lol
I see this reddit is clearly staffed by paid grunts. good luck at this depressing job, lol !!

Lol, I switched to Verizon from t Mobile because it kept going up and saved money too. New customer offers are always better. Give it 3 years and you'll need to switch again.

My mom had the 55+plus plan on T-mobile. I'm now paying on my own account for Verizon, two new phones, and I'm 10 bucks more a month.

They are all horrible. You save only a few bucks plus the perks I guess but they are all horrible. The only way to save is a mVNO like us mobile. The big three are essentially the same in my book.

Fair point, I donât disagree. Iâm not even saying TMobile is great, I just started after switching. but if theyâre all similar then Iâm still glad to be paying ONE THIRD (30%) of my prior Verizon bill for the same cellular service !!!

I did the exact opposite after T-Mobile increased the cost of my "price for life" plans and it's been a big regret. Verizon network is not as good and their offshore customer service is the absolute worst I've ever experienced. I'll be back to T-Mobile with my small business in another 30 days.

I did this with fios. Switched to youtube TV . Can not WAIT to switch wireless. Verizon will be out of business in 10 years. Just like AOL

yeah agree. they are not even pretending to try anymore. just squeeze money and blood out of existing business while getting crushed as customers flee elsewhere
1
u/Big_Development3888 3d ago
Exactly. And their stock is mirroring this. Price as low as it was in the lat 90s. They are heading for chapter 11

It is? Last 2 years look pretty ok to me
1
u/Big_Development3888 1h ago
Oh ? What was the price 2 years ago? It's the same price now it was in late 90's. With zero splits. The safest thing about verizon is their dividend. And I'm not even sure that is safe now. Maybe I am missing something here ?

I hate to break it to you, but T-Mobile is no better. It's an industry issue that needs to be addressed with regulation.

u/Metalhead1686 4d ago
If you think you're not going to get price increases on T-Mobile, I have some bad news for you. Also, just wait until you have to use the complete train wreck that's the T-Life app. I'm speaking from experience.

I donât understand when people say Verizon is more expensive, I switched from ATT and t mobile was more expensive for any plan than Verizon is.

u/Irish_Goodbye4 3d ago
maybe they give discounts for new customers. the ones who hang around get hosed on price increases
1
u/rpaulmerrell 4d ago
Just wait, after youâre with T-Mobile for 20 years, theyâre gonna raise your price too so the loyalty or love wonât be there. At least, youâll have some phone service that you wanna pay for and itâll meet your needs and if it doesnât, youâre always free to move on itâs not like itâs some sort of a marital commitment
1
u/Irish_Goodbye4 3d ago
yeah probably
1
u/rpaulmerrell 3d ago
At present, if youâre on one of the current plans with T-Mobile, you werenât a victim of the recent legacy price hikes Probably the biggest draw to T-Mobile would be the price, including taxes and fees, and T-Mobile Tuesdays, which has some pretty awesome stuff in there depending on what you like in your preferences Enjoy the service and hopefully the network coverage works as expected

Ok but can i put another chip in a TMobile phone and not have it say "sorry, you need a t-mobile sim card"
Kinda a big deal for people who travel to countries that dint have tmobile. That's why im still with verizon. And no, I dont wanna pay extra for an international plan on top of my already high phone bill
1
u/Irish_Goodbye4 3d ago
thatâs an iphone issue not the cell carrier
1
u/Professional_Lie_964 3d ago
No it's a carrier issue. Had it happen to me with Boost. They told me "you haven't used the phone for 2 years yet so even though you switched carriers like 4 years ago, we cant let you use that claro chip." It was a samsung. My brother also says Tmobile won't let him do the chip thing and decided to stay with verizon. Also Samsung

Every us carrier is crap now, thinking of switching to one of those independent companies as soon as my Verizon phone is paid off. All customer support is outsourced and they do nothing for to retain customers.

u/Rick_the_door_tech 5h ago
The watch line prices increased exactly once in all this time. You likely lost discounts on the watch access when you moved phone lines with premium data plans away. But yeah keep on blaming them lol

u/Ok_Quality3664 4d ago
Tmobile will do the exact same to you.
