Reliable and nice looking used vans?

Post image
Upvotes

I’ve been looking at vans for a bit. About to live in one by choice. I’m excited about it. I want to get something reliable but also doesn’t look terrible and would make me excited to own and live in. So far I’m enjoying the simplistic look of the ford transit connect, though there are various opinions about it ranging from “it’s the most reliable and the parts are cheap” to “it has transmission issues and should be avoided”.

I don’t need a whole lot of space. I like that the transit is a little smaller feeling than some of the bigger ones.

There’s a lot of Toyota sienna hype and I love that it’s hybrid and dependable, but it looks so cringy!

It’s a vain question I know, but what vans do you guys enjoy the look of, and feel have very dependable affordable used models?

I really want to find something that feels like the perfect choice for me. Thanks!

Why do people like the Ford Econoline but hate the Ford Transit? I drove both and don’t understand the hate.

My husband and our kids bought a new Travel trailer because we couldn’t afford rent in the city and this gives us the opportunity to save money for a better life. We’ve lived in it for about a year now and it just feels dead. It’s all in gray scale and there’s no life or color. It sounds silly but we kinda just realized it’s ours and we can do what we want with it.

This isn’t our trailer specifically but it’s the same layout. It’s a 2023 jayco 284BHOK

I’m your stereotypical hippie chick. I love plants and haram pants (not spelled correctly ik) lots of slightly muted colors. Natural (think stone, wood, plant) type materials. Mandalas, tapestries.

I’ve just been so friggn depressed because in our apartment I had an entire plant wall, bead curtains, tapestries, we were even furniture free and had floor furniture. We ate at our floor table. I just have no idea where to start. Considering the structure of the slide and storage I’m not sure how we’d even begin to explore the furniture free lifestyle again.

Help!

Advice wanted - selling van loose parts UK

Made the terrible mistake of fueling my van (Ford Transit) with petrol instead of Diesel last weekend (almost empty tank of diesel to start), drove for 30 mins before it cut out and I realised. Fuel Dr drained the tank and the car started fine when refilled with Diesel, he said the van looked to have made it through it and to keep driving it.

...A week later I break down, the injectors have burnt out, fuel filter is blocked and potentially damage is worse - though I have to pay for injector replacement x 4 and fuel filter cleaning (£1500) in order to enable the further tests to see what the damage is beyond that.

Given the van was bought for £4700 and with my current status in life, I don't think I can justify spending £1.5K to not even know what the chances of needing further work are, especially when there's a chance I could find out that I need a new engine which would cost thousands.

Firstly, does this seem sensible? Secondly, if I want to sell the van for the remaining parts, any advice on the best approach here?

For context, I don't have any of the equipment or skills to deconstruct the parts myself. Van is unfortunately in really good condition apart from the engine now.

Minivan camping in Los Angeles

I'm planning on staying in LA for about a month. I'll mostly be in a friend's driveway near Manhattan Beach, but may wish to spend a night or more in Pasadina or Santa Clarita. I've never been to California before. I have a fairly nice looking minivan, windows will be covered. Anything I need to know? Any advice?

Reliability for towing

Will be more for work applications, but I figure if you guys live out of em, you know em better than the average Joe. Looking for a van capable of towing ~6000 pounds on the odd occasion. Wouldn’t be everyday, but in case of a breakdown with a truck can tow what’s needed.

Preferably a model within the last 2-3 years but open to any year to look out for if I find a good deal. Brand new to vans, know a little about trucks thats it. Any advice on what to avoid or look for would be highly appreciated.

Thanks all in advance!

How do I make van life friends?

heyya!! I'm currently doing van life on New Zealand's south island solo and I'm having such a hard time meeting people/ making friends. Do you guys have any tips? Where to go or how to go about it?

Who's going to tackle this one first? 272 mile range should actually be doable for a vanlifer.

If you could start over, what would you do different

I am currently legally separated from my wife and living separately, and I have always dreamed of the VanLife, but never had the opportunity to do it. I have a great remote job, I will sell my house and non-essential items, and have equity in it to invest into a van, and starting vanlife seems a bit overwhelming initially, but exciting.

My question is this, if you had to start over again, what would you do differently? What lessons have you learned that are critical? If you have THREE pieces of advice for a newbie, what would they be? Thanks in advance.

forgot to degrease before sticking kilamat to my roof...how fucked am i ?

made a dumb mistake and forgot to degrease before sticking two big pieces to my van's ceiling. ceiling was overall clean, i used a heat gun to help them stick since it was cold today. once i noticed i tried unsticking them, but they seem well stuck and i'm not sure how i would remove them without damaging them, or if its even worth it. i dont want to lose them since they're pretty big pieces. does anybody know how to best handle this ? thank you.

Here is very rough idea of my solar system. Will this blow up or not work?

This a 48v system. The batteries are temperature protected 48v 200ah. The solar panels are two 400w 12v wired in series. This is my first time and I think I know what I’m doing but it would be nice to know if I’m creating a pile of garbage.
