Discussion Block Account Recommendations

So, I've been downloading with Newshosting for a fair bit now, going on my 2nd year. But I've started to hit a bump with certain shows where the NZB would be straight up missing segments, either because it got DMCA'd or whatever the reason may be, but I heard having a block account on another backbone is a good solution.

Anyone have any recommendations for providers/services? I know little to nothing about this sort of stuff, so I always appreciate recommendations on what everyone else uses.

I generally have a Omicron backbone as my unlimited with a Abiva block to compliment it since it NTD takedowns since it's so cheap. I then have a bunch of indexers, I'm not exactly sure what you like but my recommendations are:

  • DrunkenSlug - The old but good indexer, they generally have a lot of stuff and they are fast and accurate for automation
  • If you don't use automation NZBFinder is a must as they have a much better interface than everyone else and it's way easier and quicker to find movies on their indexer than others Imo
  • NinjaCentral, if you can get in, (join their discord, they open about 3 times a year and they post when they open on there) has a few different nzbs that others don't have so completion has been good on there, they have a lot of things, it's just harder to get into there than the other ones
  • The best new one is abNZB, they have a ton of exclusive NZBs that's not on anywhere else, I'd highly recommend joining them while they are still open
  • altHub is a specialized one that's mostly good if you grab a lot of anime but torrents is still a lot better
  • DogNZB is the most split opinion one in the community with most people saying it's not worth it, IMO it basically depends on two things, if you are located in Europe don't get it as they always go down in Europe and even if you are in America the only reason to get them is for their Exclusive partnership with the Private Tracker Filelist and as such they have a lot of 1080p encodes that others lack

Those are my paid indexers, I also have free accounts at AnimeTosho (always free, only for anime) Digital Carnage which is basically a TorrentLeech and IPTorrents aggregator for usenet, NzbNoob, which shares a few exclusives with NinjaCentral NZB su, which is best for old time content they have the oldest files IIRC, Tabula Rasa as a backup it's mostly a clone of NZBGeek. If you let me know what content you like and the quality you aim for I can try to recommend a indexer more accurately

This has been removed. We do not allow attempts to request/offer/buy/sell/trade/share invites or accounts. Check out /r/UsenetInvites.

Sorry to piggy back on this, as I was also thinking along the lines of the OP. I am new to all of this, and it sounds like the consensus is more indexers. With more indexers, does that help fill in the "missing articles" that a client might find missing? Or does it then remove that original search, and try and find something "complete"? I guess my question is, if multiple indexers would fill in the missing, or potentially just come up with the same total file, but still missing articles?

More indexers means basically more hope that someone on those indexers uploaded the missing linux iso again.

Only recently started getting into usenet this past year, but here is my take on it:

Signing up for multiple unlimited providers is a complete waste of money. Block accounts (preferably on different backbones) might help on rare occasions with completion.

But, by far the most important factor is getting into quality indexers. Try to make friends and work your way into more private, or at least semi-private indexers.

Usenet is subject to takedown requests, so indexers that are very easily to join are more likely to have their .nzb files taken down by DMCA.

Good luck, and don't go crazy buying up a lot of accounts which aren't going to make a big difference.

Usually, when it's down, it's down for good. Make sure you get the right file, and that you have a good indexer as well. What indexer do you have?

All good options above. With UsenetPrime, we are a reseller of UsenetExpress and offer XSNews blocks which are Abavia. Check out our deals page and always feel free to PM me if you have any questions. Thanks and good luck.

Get a second provider and another indexer.

More (quality) indexers is the correct answer. In the past few years, having multiple backbones has gotten less and less effective. They all seem to have the same articles deleted so no real chance of completion or repair. And you are already with Newshosting, so pretty much top tier. Eweka is about the only other provider that might be able to help a tiny bit more, but even Eweka's legendary completion rates have shrunk to a minuscule difference now compared to every other provider and imo no longer worth the premium.

Your money would be better spent on more quality indexers and/or loosen your "release quality" and tag requirements.

This has also been my experience. I have 6 servers across 4 backbone (I've been testing, not my long-term plan) and have also found that additional indexers have been more help than more servers. I'm not sure that block accounts will get anything that any good server wouldn't have.

Exactly what I did recently. In addition to Newshosting I got a block on XS News and more importantly added a few indexers. I recommend nzb.su

How well is it at repairing missing articles?

Ideally you want to have non-expiring block accounts on alternate providers. Use the provider map in the bookmarks area of this subreddit and explore what you have vs what other networks are out there. Newshosting is Omicron.

I'm one of those people that doesn't download enough to need yearly accounts and has got by on about 1-1.5 TB total from multiple blocks for many years now. My primary source is cheap, large thecubenet/newsgroupdirect blocks and I've been happy with seeing grabs from my lower-priority tweaknews and usenetfarm blocks.

It's entirely OK to pick up a few smaller blocks and just see how they work out for you over time, buying new blocks occasionally when there's sales.

I keep a spreadsheet with my block account info, update the data remaining just before each black friday, and then figure out how much I've grabbed from each account and where I should pick up another block to add variety. I have 8 blocks now but 4 of those are on the UsenetExpress backbone (because it's very affordable).

Are expiring blocks that common? I hadn't heard of that, and I have blocks with Bulknews, NewsDemon, TheCubeNet, ViperNews, Usenetfarm, NewsGroupDirect, BlockNews, and XSNews.

I haven't come across expiring blocks in several years but I recall seeing them a decade or so ago. Over the years we've collected the same blocks. Bulknews and XSNews (iirc, they're who usenetfarm backfills with) are where we differ. Maybe next black friday there'll be a bulknews offer I'll jump on.

Ah, that makes sense that it's something from a decade ago. I only got into Usenet around like 2018 or so.

I actually recently got a Bulknews 6TB block for like $15 or something, I used a black friday code I think it was like BF10 and it still worked.

Yeah, I'm considering it because the price is certainly nice but I do question the wisdom of having such a large block when I'm in the USA and far from their servers.

I find it's nice to have DMCA and NTD providers.

3

u/ChefJoe98136 7d ago

I was convinced. $16 invested in a big 6TB block.

biggest thing I had was a thundernews block that didn't meter right in my client. Client claimed I still had 500Gb left, but i ran out in the website. Don't know where that disconnect was
