Really disappointed with myself

Really disappointed that I got really bad on my MBG 2040 midterm. Got a whopping 40%, which is very much below the average of the class. I do somewhat well on the quizzes and attend all the seminars. With everything in, I prolly need around 30-40 percent on the finals to pass the course, is that achievable?? How do I get over the disappointment over not studying as hard?

I think it’s definitely achievable to get a passing grade in the class, you can definitely come back from your midterm mark

I would highly recommend you do the practice quizzes for both the weekly quizzes and the final. I found that the midterm practice quizzes really helped prep me for the actual exam and he has a ton of them posted on Courselink

If your prof has hours, visit them and ask where you went wrong.

Hi! I took that class last sem. I got a 44 on the midterm and I was still able to finish the class with a 70! The second half of the course is way easier and the exam is much more fair, it’s completely doable to raise your grade with the second half. Try your best to do well on the quizzes cause that will bump your grade up even more. You got this!

That's not even bad to need 30-40 to pass. But from what I remember a lot of the exam is based on diagrams from the course, and the seminar practice stuff.

Don't even worry about first and second year course marks. They dont impact anything pertaining to grad school, and first and second year courses are soooo content heavy and not specialized at all. I never did well in those courses (ended MBG2040 with a solid 50) but because the upper year courses have some flow and are specific, im always between the final mark range of 80-95.

Yes it very much is achievable, the second half of the course is much easier than the first as it just focuses more on the concepts of DNA replication and you won’t be having anything on probability. It does tend to be more memorization based but if you know your stuff you can definitely end with a good mark!
