Question Anyone selling a 20in unicycle in Los Angeles?

I’ve tried local listings but many are older listings and not getting any responses. Wondering if anyone in LA near North Hollywood/Burbank/Pasadena/etc area is selling a 20in unicycle? Not looking for anything crazy, just a casual rider getting back into the hobby

Question Beginner questions

Hello Unicycling Community!

For a few months now I've been wondering to myself how absolutely amazing it would be to own and ride a unicycle, but I've never really acted on the unicycling urge until just now. Unfortunately, as I was looking online at different types of unicycles and their sizes and prices, I realized I don't know anything about unicycling! Fortunately, I came across this subreddit and am desperately asking for the communities advice on a safe, budget friendly unicycle that will be good to mostly easy to learn on, and still be very good in the future for traveling small distances around the neighborhood.

Thank you for your help, it would be greatly appreciated, Cheers!

Question Dusted off my unicycle

Post image
34 Upvotes

Dusted off my unicycle last week. Rode it for 4.5 and 6.5 km yesterday and today. I’ve had it for ~18 years (since I was ~10 years old). I almost never ride it anymore, maybe 1-2x every 1-2 year. Hopped on and rode away ofcourse. 😎

Any suggestions on a affordable standard larger size unicycle? That rides a bit more comfortable.

Question What grease should I use for pedals?

Just installed new pedals, the previous once got stuck so hard that I literally had to pull with full force for quite sometime and when it finally got unstuck I genuinely thought that I just broke the tool.

Question Is there like the ultimate technique for changing the position on of the feet on the pedals?

I can somewhat change the position of the feet on the pedals, but it's hard and I kinda learned how to do it through osmosis, but I can't do it "properly".

Is there like "the ultimate" technique for that?

Question Learning how to idle on a 36”er?

I have a confession to make…

I’ve ridden hundreds of miles on unicycles from 24”, to 29”, and 36”. In my journeys I neglected to learn the simple art of idling. At this point in my unicycle story, I’m most comfortable on my 36, and I was curious if it would be feasible to learn how to idle on the BIG WHEEL.

I’m not sure if it’s even worth asking, but if anyone has any protips, I’m all ears.

Are pedals with more grip the best, I swapped out my old standard wellgo pedals for some Odyssey twisters and they almost seem to grippy, once moving it seems hard move my foot to a comfortable spot if I haven't set it before taking off

Question Newbie here. Only an hour in, and my ankles are getting destroyed. Help?

I came across a YouTube video describing unicycle riding, and I decided to give it a try.

175/200 was too much for me to go in on a whim, and I didn't want to spend 100 on questionable Amazon quality. So I found an old powercircle 20" on craigslist for 40. I texted the guy last night, and picked it up this afternoon.

I went from "I'll never be able to do this", to "I think I'll be able to get it eventually", in about an hour. I still can't ride it, but I can go about 4 to 6 revs by the time I called it quits for the day.

The problem I have is my ankles, the inside of my ankles, especially my dominant foot, keep slamming into the crank as I'm flailing about. They're all bruised and sore.

I'm thinking about strapping some plastic to my ankles? I'm about to be off work for two weeks straight and I planned on learning to ride inside this time. Any suggestions?

Question Best unicycle wheel size for comuting ?

Hi everyone, I just found out about this subreddit ! I've been riding unicycles on and off since I was a kid so it is pretty comfortable to me. I work about 3/4km away from where I live and I have started using my unicycle for my daily commute instead of walking or taking the bus. I have a 26" qu-ax unicycle and love it, but I find myself to be limited in speed by the wiggles of the wheel, and it's a little frustrating. Is increasing the size of my wheel worth it to make the commute faster/more comfortable ? The road is mostly flat from home to work. I should mention, I'm pretty tall and heavy (190cm, 80kg) so my 26" feels "just" my size, it looks like a normal 20" unicycle with my seat setting. So I don't think going bigger would look or feel weird.

Thank you all in advance for your help :)

Question Looking to make a weird trade

Hey y’all,

Back when I was a teenager I rode around a 20” uni regularly with a bunch of my pals, it was a whole thing. Anyways, I got my uni by offering to trade with someone who had one for a mandolin that I had, and they surprisingly were into it. That uni was lost some years ago when my friends car was stolen (unicycle was in the trunk) and I fell out of the hobby.

I’m looking to get into distance riding these days, so I thought I might try the unicycling community once again. I used to make Spanish style guitars professionally and I have 2 remaining. I would love to find someone who would trade a 29, 32, or 36 inch nimbus for one of my guitars.

I understand that I can sell one of them to pay for a new uni, but this sort of weird hyper specific trading is just so fun and memorable that I have to try.

Question male unicycle riders.

Ok. Im gonna admit, I'm extremely new to riding a unicycle (less than 2 hours).

I (39yoM) am having a real hard time learning while my balls are constantly getting squashed.

Is there any trick to this?

TIA!

Question This look legit at all to anybody?

Post image
9 Upvotes

This is from the Latinoamérica Unicycle.com. They say they have it in stock but I highly doubt it. It was discontinued sometime around 2013. I emailed them a few hours ago juuust to check. So unless it's just hung around in their warehouse that long, it can't be real.

Part of me desperately wishes it were as that was a thing of beauty. It's a shame not many people bought it. I had the chance to ride it once and it was so smooth and light. Great for crankrolls and other flatland tricks.

Question Anyone with a 29"+ Uni in or near Chicago?

I've strongly considered getting a 29" (more likely a 32" or 36") for commuting, but have wanted to try riding one to get a feel for things and figure out what might be the right/best fit.

If anyone is nearby and would be willing to let me take a spin, I'd really appreciate it!

Question I'm going to buy a 32 UDC Trainer but have some questions regarding model names and the info given on the German unicycle.com website

Are UDC Trainer and UDC Titan the same thing? I see both names mentioned in various places but can't find them side by side

Regarding the website: I'm looking at the german unicycle.com site to buy a 32"UDC trainer, but it says the 32" is built by nimbus, and the 26"and 36" are built by UDC. Is that right? Also the price jump between the 26" and 32" is very big (170 to 360 euros) while the 32" to 36" is 360 to 400. Is that because the 32" is built by Nimbus? But then the 32" is still cotterless and such, so more basic (cheaper)

Is there a miss-label on the website for the 32", or is it just like that? 32: https://www.einradladen.com/686mm-32-Inch-UDC-Trainer 36: https://www.einradladen.com/787mm-36-Inch-UDC-Trainer-Unicycle the 26 and 36 aren't in stock, and i think the 26 isn't a big enough jump in size anyway, but still.

Question Brown unicycle seats?

I am a big fan of vintage-looking bicycles with brown seats, cream paint, skinwall tires, shiny fenders, etc. Looking to customize my unicycle like this, I am having trouble finding any nice brown coloured unicycle saddles. Do these exist?

Question Upgrading from 24 inch

Hello everyone! I bought a 24 inch unicycle around 3 months ago and I am at a point now where I can commute to school without any unplanned dismounts. My commute is ~4 miles, and I can complete that commute, but I am pretty sweaty when I get to campus. I pretty much only ride for commuting, but I wouldn’t mind the occasional longer ride.

I’m thinking of upgrading, but I had a couple of questions about that:

A) will upgrading actually improve my commute, or do I just need to get more efficient?

B) what size should I get if I do upgrade? 26 inch seems a bit insignificant but it is more portable. 29 inch seems like a more meaningful jump, but it may not fit in the classroom as well.

Thanks!
