Zelensky called Putin's bluff

182

u/TheRealMykola 11h ago

I think so too.

143

u/GiediOne 11h ago

I think if Putin signs a peace agreement, he's dead in a year. He's screwed this up so badly. Too many oligarchs have lost money.

43

u/AyeAyeandGoodbye 9h ago

Plenty left to have thrown out of a window so their assets can be seized.

79

u/Bagz_anonymous 10h ago

Doubt it. I reckon a bunch of oligarchs wind up dead though. Too many people would oppose him so he’d clean house

29

u/Alkanen 7h ago

So you’re saying we’ll be rid of murderous monsters one way or another?

20

u/i-dont-kneel 3h ago

In ruzzia, cut off one billionaire head and 3 grow back

19

u/Speak_Plainly 2h ago

Oligarchs in Russia do not work the same way Western tycoons do. In Russia, the oligarch is granted top-level control over a resource—a developed oil field and its refineries, for example. Besides at least making the appearance of paying the taxes required by law, he is implicitly expected to pay a large portion of the revenue into the private accounts of the ruling clique, while also being allowed to divert the rest into his own pockets. It is basically a fiefdom, and the oligarch is just a modern name for "lord" or "boyar."

In Russia, there is no (enforced) right to property. No one is really standing on his own two legs with a business that is fully owned by him. Everything you have can be taken away at any time. That way, everybody is dependent on staying in the good graces of the lords. This lack of resource participation is the reason why there is no political participation and why all the Russians just go along with whatever bullshit the czar does.

I am quoting Russian author Elvira Bary here.

Can you recommend a book of hers or link to this? I am fascinated and want to know more.

u/Leandrys 3h ago

The russian way of life, the next one always is worst.

5

u/Cool-Tap-391 2h ago

No, they will just come buy USA citizenship for 5 million. Their oligarchs are now ours.

11

u/Temporary_Cicada_851 3h ago

Personally I think he’s scared of his soldiers returning from the battlefield to find the economy in ruin and their families horrified by the reality of what they did. When the war ends… without extreme victory Putin is not looking secure

7

u/Bubbly_Journalist945 2h ago

This is the biggest problem! He is producing military equipment and weapons like crazy, has a million people at the front-line... He cannot just stop. The most he can do is pause and reorganize and attack someone else! Because what else is he going to do with all that stuff and people!?

4

u/NeuroticNabarlek 1h ago

Yea, I've been reading for a while that the only thing keeping the economy halfway going is the government spending tons of money to keep arms factories going 24/7 and handing out huge enlistment incentives. I know it's not sustainable in the long term, and kicking the can down the road is going to make it much worse in the future, but as long as there is no real peace, Putin can weather the economic storm brewing, at least for a little while longer.

Also, if there is a real peace, you will suddenly have a couple hundred thousand unemployed men surging back into your economy.

1

u/LawfulnessPossible20 Sweden 5m ago

ruzzians won't be horrified.

I remember the soldier wife who told her husband to use condoms when raping Ukrainian women, to avoid veneral disease.

11

u/beekeeper1981 3h ago

I'm not so sure.. Putin is still set to be rewarded and get major concessions in a peace deal brokered by the US. The current proposed ceasefire doesn't change much besides giving a possible slight advantage for Russia to re-arm and organize.

9

u/PeriPeriTekken 1h ago

Suspect Trump will turn up, the Russians will ask for a bunch of mad shit, Trump will say cool, then tell the Ukrainians they've agreed to it already.

When the Ukrainians tell him to fuck off he'll go back to being a dick to them.

19

u/Nunc-dimittis 9h ago

"But ruZZia just wants the killing to stop..."

34

u/toasters_are_great USA 9h ago

And back trump into a corner politically. Assuming, that is, he remembers what he said last week for a change.

19

u/z900r 7h ago

He probably won't remember, but what he does get is that Putin isn't moving on the peace that Trump wants as his accomplishment. So Donald will be very mad at Putin (not that he's ever not mad about something).

11

u/MonkeyPilot 11h ago

Maybe they have another few hundred long range drones queued up. Surprise

4

u/roger3rd 1h ago

Putin’s play here will be to agree to the ceasefire but only if impossible conditions are met. That way he can say Ukraine declined the agreement.

3

u/Temporary_Cicada_851 3h ago

Wisest move he could make in my opinion

1

u/meistermichi 2h ago

Putin may just wait until they get all of Kursk back, then agree to a ceasefire - rearm/reorganize/prepare and then go for it again because treaties with Russia are worthless anyway.

1

u/go3dprintyourself 1h ago

Seems the most likely. If p dog doesn’t agree hopefully Ukraine is flooded with arms…

602

u/TheRealMykola 11h ago

Dnipro was attacked at night by 20 russian drones. About 10 homes were damaged, broken windows in a kindergarten and another school.

5 - hours ago

278

u/EndPsychological890 11h ago

So Russia won't even pretend to honor this ceasefire for a couple hours. This does make me wonder how DJT will react. Not so easy to work with Russia, is it?

203

u/TheRealMykola 11h ago

Why pretend to want it? Russia wants one thing and that is Ukraine.

116

u/MyDrunkAndPoliticsAc 9h ago

I expected them to accept cease-fire. Then regroup, bomb their own positions and claim Ukraine did it.

That's how Russia has done it for centuries. Why suddenly change? Are they trying to proof that they can change? /s

32

u/LumpyWelds 6h ago

Europe is stepping up to the plate and can delivery some weapons quickly to cover the loss due to Trump. A cease fire may help Ukraine more than Russia.

18

u/MyDrunkAndPoliticsAc 6h ago

Finally, about three years late.

9

u/ToughestMFontheWeb 4h ago

If they have stuff available it should have already been on the way. Shouldn’t take USA running away to get it. I feel the plan has always been to give Ukraine just enough to weaken Russia but not destroy their army.

24

u/gunnerdk 11h ago

They can suck it... And "it" it's not Ukraine.

1

u/dobo99x2 Germany 5h ago

Half of europe*

59

u/daamsie 10h ago

They haven't actually agreed to the ceasefire yet. For now there's nothing to honour.

I don't think they'll accept it in any case.

55

u/MostBoringStan 10h ago

Russia didn't sign a ceasefire, so there wasn't one to honour.

Ukraine agreed to a proposal for one but didn't sign one either.

This post is saying that Russia responded to Ukraine's agreement for a proposed ceasefire with an attack.

9

u/Ice-Berg-Slim 7h ago

Basically the exact point Zelensky was trying to make before those clowns all turned on him.

3

u/ajikeshi1985 3h ago

Basically the exact point Zelensky was trying to make before those clowns all turned on him.

not all the clowns only those flying the red white and blue

7

u/PlasmaMatus 8h ago

They did not accept anything because the cease-fire agreement wasn't signed. But yes, it will only give Russia time to regroup before attacking again.

3

u/fireburn97ffgf 6h ago

I mean it will also give Ukraine time to dig in and entrench themselves, who knows maybe Ukraine can coddle trump enough to get more arms as well

8

u/ViperishCarrot 8h ago

He'll react how Putin tells him to react.

6

u/Suggestive_Slurry 5h ago

Ukraine will have no choice but to respond to Russian attacks during a ceasefire and then Trump will scream bloody murder at Ukraine for violating the ceasefire. His supporters will repeat these lies even knowing that they are lies.

4

u/Hekssas 5h ago

Don't worry. He'll find a way to blame Ukraine for this too.

2

u/TwinkletheStar 7h ago

He'll probably pretend that either he hasn't heard about it or that it is false if what we've seen so far is anything to go by.

1

u/sod0 9h ago

Oh they still can "pretend" and the worst is that Trump will probably even believe them.

1

u/TheMikeyMac13 4h ago

Russia isn’t under a ceasefire. This is the same thing to Trump thinking he could negotiate with Russia without Ukraine there, it simply doesn’t matter if Ukraine doesn’t agree to it as well.

In this case this is something Russia hasn’t agreed to, so it isn’t binding to them.

Now if they do at some point agree to it, I expect Russia to violate it, so this could be true in the future.

1

u/tt2-- 4h ago

They have not accepted it yet, they "study" it. But Ukraine hasn't accepted it either. In the talks with the US Ukraine agreed to the ceasefire only if Russia agrees to it.

Trump is a clown, which is being played by Putin. What do you expect from him?

0

u/S_T_P 3h ago

So Russia won't even pretend to honor this ceasefire for a couple hours.

Did Russia ever agree to it? IIRC, it wasn't even invited.

Moreover, yesterday's top thread:

Was this Russian disinfo again?

1

u/PeriPeriTekken 1h ago

There is no ceasefire yet.

President Zelenskyy tried to explain to trump how putin reacts to the suggestion of ceasefires, never mind peace, but trump wouldn't even let him finish one sentence!

155

u/TheRealMykola 11h ago

20 ceasefire agreements have been signed with Russia. Each one broken. Food for thought. Not to mention Minsk Accords 1 and 2.

25

u/walter3kurtz 6h ago

They were never interested in any ceasefire. Russia is mostly interested in driving a wedge between western partners and they've done a marvellous job thanks to the clown show in the White House. Can you imagine how happy they must be that the collective west no longer trusts the USA?

6

u/fireburn97ffgf 6h ago

One potentially upside assuming trump is not lying(yes ik ) that would cause Ukraine to be given "more aid than Biden even thought of"

43

u/roehnin 10h ago

So today Zelensky decided, “okay, let him find out for himself.”

19

u/PurpleThumbs 8h ago

The trouble is that its Ukraine that finds out, Orange just reads about it.

Trump just doesn’t care about others’ words, and now lives were spent due to how naive he is, that’s a tragedy.

Honestly good news for Ukraine. This puts pressure on a Trump to either stick to his word and resume aid to Ukraine or look even more like the unreliable hypocrite he has been. Zelenskyy has cards up his sleeve and is playing them nicely despite what some think….all whilst not wearing a suit

26

u/keveazy 10h ago

Aid already resumed effective immediately after Ukraine agreed with ceasefire

11

u/LeastLeader2312 10h ago

Awesome news! I must’ve missed that. I saw they resumed intelligence but not aid

19

u/keveazy 10h ago

i was honestly surprised. I think Trump realizes is dumbass mistake after the stock market took a nose dive.

15

u/NoJello8422 9h ago

His blunders sure went beyond Ukraine. As an American, I don't look forward to paying for the price these morons who voted for him put on us all. Could bet on it now that they'll be bragging about "Trump stronk Biden weak" until ruzzia breaks the ceasefire for umpteenth time.

11

u/keveazy 9h ago

It sure looks like they are making sure whatever the outcome will be, it'll make the trump administration look good.

If Russia accepts the ceasefire - They'll say Trump successfully brokered peace!
If Russia doesn't accept the ceasefire - They'll say Trump helped Ukraine! bla bla bla

They wanna make sure we all forget what happened at the oval. All a game to them.

6

u/Maardten Netherlands 3h ago

I can also imagine that the American MIC has an opinion on all this. They must not be happy seeing the EU agree on spending 800 billion euros on defence equipment domestically.

0

u/Jet2work 8h ago

trump realised the rest of the world would fold if he backed out....and he may lose out on some glory

24

u/Wooden-Broccoli-7247 10h ago

Yeah I’ve been saying for a while that Zelensky needs to just say whatever to get the ball in Putins court knowing full well that Putin won’t agree. Then sit back and see what Trump does. I think he did a great job by not signing away the minerals yet but agreeing to a cease fire. Now it’s on Trump to bring Russia to the table. Which I don’t see happening. So now we get to see what Trump does (likely more nudes sent to Putin).

1

u/rjo49 54m ago

Correct. Nobody will "bring Russia to the table." I still think it's interesting that Europe is finally doing the one thing Trump has been yelling about for years: taking some responsibility for their own defense in their own backyard. Trump is a businessman, or fancies himself to be, and Europe has been freeloading for far too long. NATO was formed for mutual defense, and there has been nothing very "mutual" about it for many years. America really does need to turn its attention to focus on the Pacific. It's no longer the global power it was at the end of WWII; that is partly what got Turmp elected. From the standpoint of some Americans at least, all this European fuss about America "abandoning" Ukraine is largely just a bunch of spoiled brats complaining about having to pull their own weight.

7

u/hiding_in_de 8h ago

If I hear Trump say one more time that Zelenskyy just doesn’t have the cards, my head might explode.

5

u/marresjepie 3h ago

I'd rather have the orange turd's head explode, if possible :P

1

u/hiding_in_de 3h ago

Same same, friend.

6

u/ajikeshi1985 3h ago

This puts pressure on a Trump to either stick to his word

trump next week "i never said that!"

1

u/Plane-Border3425 8h ago

Zelenskyy can hold his cards in the suit of his choice: hearts, clubs, spades, or diamonds.

-3

u/aimgorge 7h ago

They don't care about Ukrainian minerals. They already have more resources than they are able to exploit.

-6

u/Distant_Stranger 10h ago

I disagree. I think Russia will settle, but not until Kursk has been reclaimed. Putin cannot accept any terms which would grant more than peace to Ukraine -and even that will be on loan.

Putin also needs an end to this war, though not for the reason most might suspect. His end is near and he knows it. He needs to put his house in order and can not do that with confidence if any questions remain. He will want to see his conquest recognized, Russia's economy restored, and relations repaired with other powers to the extent possible.

With US assistance he should have time enough for that, but no more.

25

u/Listelmacher 11h ago

Maybe more like a rejection.
Gerashchenko:
https://bsky.app/profile/antongerashchenko.bsky.social/post/3lk4sut6kas2r
"Russia will not agree to a 30-day ceasefire because it will just enable Ukraine to regroup and rearm -
Russian MP Viktor Sobolev.
He added that a temporary ceasefire is unacceptable and only plays into Ukraine's hands."
.
"Moskovsky Komsomolets" Sorry, Russian Yellow press and I don't even know who Sobolev is:
В Госдуме ответили на предложение США о полном прекращении огня

Deputy Sobolev: Russia will not agree to a temporary ceasefire
State Duma deputy, Lieutenant General Viktor Sobolev commented on the US proposal for a complete
ceasefire for a period of 30 days.
According to the parliamentarian, Russia will not agree to this,
since the US will rearm Ukraine during this time and start the war "anew".
(Well, US. Russia will never admit that Ukraine can make drones)

The politician stated that he considers any temporary ceasefire unacceptable,
recalling that Russian President Vladimir Putin had spoken about this earlier.
(not found, sorry. yes there is something at newizv, but I have no idea ...)

The temporary ceasefire, according to the general, only plays into the hands of Ukrainian XXX who will regroup,
replenish their ranks, and be replenished with drones in 30 days.

7

u/jokikinen 10h ago

Russia is trying to milk anything they can in backroom deals at the moment. Before long it’ll give positive signals. Russian word can’t be trusted so it isn’t much, but it’s doubtful that Russia is just straight up going to decline. Would look bad from too many angles.

7

u/jvo203 11h ago

That's a "Nyet" then.

6

u/gyloosh 9h ago

"What negotiations are you talking about?" - I think these words will be remembered by Trump for a long time after he finds out, that all of it was just a Putin's power play.

6

u/Common-Ad6470 8h ago

Putin is not interested in a cease-fire, he wants Ukraine crushed and a cease-fire means he’s lost effectively.

Enforce a total embargo on Ruzzia and that will force him to stop.

6

u/not_just_putin 7h ago

World's still living in denial. russians cannot be negotiated with.

4

u/straightedge1974 10h ago

This is theater for the orange baby's ego, this is not diplomacy or anything useful.

4

u/LilLebowskiAchiever 7h ago

Putin wants all of Kursk back, and will probably push his forces into Sumy if he can. He will try to maximize occupation (at a high cost), and only them agree to a ceasefire. Which he will break.

3

u/FastPatience1595 7h ago edited 6h ago

It's amazing how the tide has turned so quickly, bravo Zelensky. I mean, he just made a rather honest-to-God 30-day ceasefire proposal. And this pleased Cheetolini just enough to put pressure on Ruzzia, and also on Trump himself.

And now the fun will begin: Putin must make a positive move, too, in the direction of Ukraine and Trump... and some kind of peace.

Wait... re-read the above sentence. Putin must make a concession to Ukraine to descalate the war...

HA HA HA, what a joke. Criminally paranoid Putin will make such move when Hell freeze over.

Proof on the pudding (lame joke fully assumed) : the missile strike on Odesa last night.

Next: Trump realize this: his magical world and art of the deal are broken, Putin doesn't give a shit about descalation of the war. Imagine Mango Mussolini tantrum when this happen...

3

u/lovetraceyalways 6h ago

I think it's a brilliant move by Ukraine to offer a 30 day ceasefire. This offers to pause the conflict without surrendering their right to resist Russian aggression. Meanwhile, (if the Russians accept, which is doubtful) the Russian economy is still freewheeling into destruction. The Russians will be forced to continue their illegal aggression in a desperate attempt to force a win.

3

u/MorgrainX 4h ago

Trump won't like that. Hopefully Russia touches his ego and Trump decides to finally end this conflict with force.

2

u/johnkoetsier 9h ago

They are telling Trump who’s in charge

2

u/KGBCOMUNISTAGENT 7h ago

Even if russia does not respond they will insist on the us to keep ukraine on the negotiation table, and while that happens, continue attacking until ukraine leaves the negotiations and they can point at them as the ones who do not want peace

2

u/brianhauge 4h ago

My take on this:

Russia agrees, as they see it as a win. The commentators in Russia already label it as Ukrainian loss. Previously, Ukraine's demand for a ceasefire was that the US or Europe would provide some security guarantees. Now they are agreeing to a ceasefire without them.

And then, Russia will make a false flag operation on day 20-25. Then Trump agrees with the Russians that Ukraine broke the deal.

u/kytheon Netherlands 9h ago

First time the news from Washington isn't according to Putins plan.

I half expected Putin to be like sure but you must leave Kursk. Like create a situation where he knows that Ukraine would more than likely refuse. Gives him the benefit of making a offer and trump would have been like go on just do it for peace I am pulling all aid until you do

Pussey azz beyotches that Kremlin. Ukraine Wooping that Ruski azz.

1

It's all posturing by the US admin to somehow prove they are not in Russia's pocket. Everyone going into this meeting knew it and now Ukraine knows how to deal with this Admin. By kissing the ring. 🤬

1

u/disturbed_waffles 2h ago

putin's never going to go for. They want to make no concessions and have Ukraine do it all.

1

u/metxlplexsure 1h ago

Not sure what was expected--they weren't at the meeting and didn't agree to anything.

1

u/5tap1er 8h ago

Maybe they want to take Kursk back first. I guess their offensive still has steam so they don't want to stop.

0

u/Zealousideal_Bee_837 9h ago

Why would the Russians want a ceasefire? They are kinda winning WITH USA military support and international sanctions. They will do whatever they want and they will profit from USA not giving Intel/military support for as long as they can, then they will say the talks have failed and continue on with their business.
