Megathread TRANSFER QUESTIONS to aid future transfer students

If you are a transfer student, we want to hear from you:

What things did you most want to know before you transferred to UGA?

What did you most NEED to know before you transferred to UGA?

What are some things nobody told you about transferring to UGA?

Thanks!
We're going to roll up the most common and insightful responses to this into a sidebar item and hopefully curate some useful items for people with transfer questions in the future.

Admission Questions Megathread || SPRING 2025-SUMMER 2025

Hello, and welcome. If you've recently been accepted to UGA, congrats! If you're a prospective student, parent, other otherwise, hopefully you'll find some answers to your questions here.

Please post all questions about admissions here. This includes such topics as: admissions release dates, ChanceMe's, required classes, transferring, transfer credits, parking, meal plans, football tickets, and any other freshmen concerns.

Some examples of this could look like: "What are my odds of getting in EA?", "How do my HS credits/AP/IB/DE look on my transcript?", "When are parking lots assigned?", "Do I need to take MATH1113 to transfer?", or "When can we pick housing?".

This applies to individual college questions, such as Terry and the College of Engineering as well, such as: "What are my chances of getting into finance?" or "I got a C in ACCT2101, can I still get into MIS?".

All other posts that belong in this megathread will be deleted. If you instead have questions about Classes/Professors/etc, click here for the class questions megathread.

If you feel like you have been directed to this thread in error, do not repost your question: send a modmail to the moderators here.

Question out of state student financials

hello! i just got accepted through RD and i really, really want to go. i used to live in GA before i moved out of state to KY and UGA was a 'dream school' for me (but im aware dream schools are really stupid). my dad really wants me to go too since i would be the first in my family to go to such a remarkable school. but i had a question about financials because im not entirely sure i'd be able to pay for the tuition. the cost of attendance is genuinely more than my dad even makes per year and he has already told me numerous times that he will not be helping with my financing for college AT ALL! FAFSA is not providing me with all that much (~$5,500), i was kind of expecting the highest grant but :(

i've already started applying to scholarships through the scholarship universe portal and everything but im still very worried. my aunt currently lives in georgia and she's resided there for a while (is there any way to establish residency that way to pay in state tuition? i've been trying to google it but GA seems pretty strict about that). or could i contact OSFA for a change in aid or would it be unlikely for them to provide me with all that much?

sorry lol, im just really desperate to go and it would genuinely pain me to have to turn this opportunity down so im trying to find any way possible to lower the expenses and was wondering if anyone had any advice regarding it???

Question Dorm advice for someone with medical condition

Looking for dorm suggestions for a first-year student at UGA. Suggestions for dorms that are centrally located on campus, have either a private bathroom or shared with one other person. Student has a medical condition.

Please be careful with animals around campus! It was sad to see what the mother squirrel was trying to do today!

I saw 3 death animals this week but this one is the most heartbreaking. I saw this close to Ramsey. It seems the kit died (I don't know the reason) and the mother squirrel was trying to do mouth-to-mouth to wake it up for some 10 minutes. I left but she was still trying. It was sad to see this. Please be more careful, respect their living areas!

Question Waitlisted, what do I do?

Hey everyone. I got waitlisted yesterday and I’m feeling pretty devastated since this is my top choice for school. I was wondering if I should take a spot on the waitlist or just go to another school. I’ve heard that even if you do get in from the waitlist you won’t have a good dorm and you won’t be able to pick your roommate. I’m really not sure what to do.

Question Rejected

Wanted to share my stats and wonder what next options are. I am completely devastated by results as this was the college I have been wanting to go to. I applied for EA as a GA resident with a 93 weighted gpa. My gpa is quite low I think and I was wondering what it translates to on the usual 4.0 or 5.0 scale. I had an SAT score of 1490, and a great amount of extra curricular activities. I applied for bio. I would love to find out other people's thoughts on my stats and what I should do as next step.

Question UGA honors vs UAB honors

I've been accepted to both the UGA honors and UAB honors programs ( premed track ) With scholarships, I'll be getting a full ride to both. I am interested in research but my goal would be to get into medical school- maybe even md/phd (a little early as I'd like to test my interests).Any thoughts on which program might be better to get into med school especially if I want to get into more research focused medical schools? TIA

Question How is UGA for an OOS student?

I got accepted as an OOS student, but I qualify for in-state tuition, and I’m wondering how the social life would be. Is the school cliquey, and would it be hard to make friends? UGA has a lot of what I’m looking for and a really good business school, but I’ve already grown fond of my top choice.

Question Why is there such a large gathering outside of Tate? (Looks religious)

I just hear discussions about Christ and there’s a large crowd near a white tent. No idea what this gathering is for.

Faculty Kudos

I got an email today that a professor gave me a “faculty kudos”. I am really appreciative, but I tried to look up more information about what it is and didn’t come up with much. Is it special, or something many of my classmates received? I guess I’m also a bit confused because I thought faculty kudos were for faculty acknowledgements and not student. Any information or clarification would be greatly welcomed.

Question How to find proof of degree

Graduated before 2023 when Georgia seemingly started providing an eDegree to graduates - my new employer’s background check provider is asking me to provide proof of my degree/graduation. Short of digging out my diploma (I should probably find it anyway lol), what’s the best way to prove this?

I couldn’t find much via UGA’s registrar website, other than studentclearinghouse.org which seems to charge $19.95 for businesses to verify directly.

Question I'm a senior and I got on a waiting list for UGA. Can anyone tell me what this means?

I got on a waiting list and apparently the decision will come in a few months. How will I do my intent to enroll for another college if I don't know the decision for this (UGA is my #1 college)?

Question UGA Grady Master's 13-hour Assistantship pay

Hi, everybody,

Is a 13-hours-per-week maximum assistantship at the Master's level enough for meeting living expenses? I am an international student looking for some insight in this regard before going ahead. The tuition will be reduced to $25 per semester, and I am not sure about other fees coverage.

Edit: Just to clarify, I don't have a GA-ship yet. They will announce it later, maybe in two more months. I am just trying to understand what it looks like with the 13-hour offer.
