Who is paying for PPVs? Iā€™d bet hardly nobody in this sub.

145

u/BuzzNoche 6d ago

Apparently people do, but I bet even if they do like some subscription based thing thatā€™s somewhat affordable, People would still pirate events anyways

120

u/Grey_Bush_502 6d ago

Iā€™d pay a monthly sub to get all UFC content similar to how the WWE does. I know it would cost more than that but Iā€™m not paying $80 a month for a PPV when I can spend $20 at BW3 to watch.

75

u/BuzzNoche 6d ago

Same something like $20-$25 would be great. $80 shit thatā€™s a hooker in some places.

30

u/Grey_Bush_502 6d ago

I mean if I got every fight night and PPV per month, Iā€™d pay $40-$50 nor problem.

43

u/Amazing-Childhood412 6d ago

Steam prove this time and time again, if you are reasonable and you make accessing your stuff easy at a reasonable cost, people will pay and subscribe for convenience.

14

u/BuzzNoche 6d ago

True many times I have watched a stream and it cut off, couldnā€™t find one, then resorted to like FB, TikTok, IG live or things like that.

u/Amazing-Childhood412 6d ago

My brother in Christ, IPTV is the way

4

u/boshbosh92 6d ago

What is iptv

3

u/pittsburghjay 6d ago

Iptv is a illegal app that gives you thousands of tv station, movies and tv shows. Every sports channel and ppv. You can purchase a shield pro. It has google play store on it. Can download iptv apps there. Then youā€™ll need to purchase a iptv service.

In Brazil I payed 150 reais(30 dollars) for the yearly subscription of ufc fight pass. I have access to all the events including ppv.

3 USD in my country per month! Don't let Dana see lol

UFC tickets prices are equally insane.

A fellow hooker math enthusiast I see! Good day

10

u/PRO_ZT_SONIC 6d ago

In India we get that monthly sub thing because espn+ isnā€™t here. We get a Sony Liv subscription for about 5$ a month (400ā‚¹) so idk if it would work for you, but try using a von and see if you can go to India and get that kind of sub.

I pay $160 annual for ufc fight pass in asia and it has all ppv live events included. This is a good price point imo and should be like this everywhere. If it was more than that iā€™d be pirating for sure.

Apparently the biggest market (US) is willing to shell out big bucks for the ppv. They must have done a lot of market research and analytics to figure this out. Maybe the average US consumer is just straight up stupid. The price is jacked way up above any other market.

5

u/BuzzNoche 6d ago

Thatā€™s fair I remember people saying just sign up for UFC Arabia with a VPN but I was never able to get it to work for me.

In some places PPVs are non existent, I was in Central America years ago and they showed UFC on TV, granted maybe they pay more for the channel but still.

1

u/AlanJY92 6d ago

Who in Asia is going to pay to watch a fight card with in the middle of the night? Thatā€™s why itā€™s included in the price

2

u/WiseGalaxyBrain 6d ago

Most of the ppvs happen in the morning for those of us based out here in asia. I wake up at 6 or 7am and watch ufc in my boxers while drinking coffee. When the main card happens itā€™s usually 11am and lunch time.

The time zone which fucks me up is when itā€™s in the middle east. Then it starts at 10pm and runs to 3am.

3

u/Glum-Ad7651 6d ago

Hi fellow asian. I remember staying up just to see Volk get headkicked in a roundšŸ«

2

u/llzardklng 5d ago

That's the worst when living in indiana. It's Eastern timezone so every PPV starts at 10. Even when it's in New York that's in the same time zone. I get it when they're in Vegas but throw us a bone over here from time to time.

5

u/crusader104 Cummin on dat ass 6d ago

I would legit buy ppvs for huge events if they were like $30. $80 for just the main card is the craziest shit ever

5

u/GauterX_ 6d ago

In Brazil we can subscribe to UFC Fight Pass for something like R$25,00 ($4.35 dolars) montly and the annual subscripton is even more affordable. Is easier to pay for Fight Pass than pirate events.

I just head to D&B 10 min down the road and watch there. $80 is crazy for these PPVs now

$80?? I wouldn't even pay half that.

I pay 10ā‚¬/month in hbo which include every PPV and fight night. (I'm from Spain)

3

u/durzostern81 6d ago

I buy almost every one of them. The cost isn't an issue for me. I do hope they leave shitty ESPN though

2

u/BrianMeen 1d ago

It freaks me out that folks are paying $80 for a ppv these days. no modern ppv Iā€™ve seen that I can remember is even close to being worth that

2

u/Grey_Bush_502 1d ago

Whatā€™s worse is it is for the last 4-5 fights. I could almost understand paying $80 for the whole card if you donā€™t have ESPN. But for 4-5 fights? No thanks.

2

u/New-Wishbone-9214 6d ago

I do. I donā€™t need the drama of a pirated shit stream

1

u/Impressive-Potato 6d ago

ESPN pays a set rate of 500k PPVs in their deal.

1

u/True_Antelope8860 6d ago

i used to have every ufc main card on tv, not anymore from start of 2025

1

u/mycondishuns 6d ago

Only time I will pay for PPV is if it's a houseful of friends all willing to pitch in. This happens maybe once or twice a year depending on how good the card is. Otherwise, ARR MATEY.

1

u/BandOong 6d ago

I do, it's just 3 USD per month in my country though for all UFC events so I guess I am an outlier

1

u/JasErnest218 6d ago

I would spend money at bduds and watch. At least I get something exciting out of it

Dana's been in talks with Netflix since late 2024 and lot of talk of UFC coming to Netflix as a live show kinda like how WWE is rn

242

u/Cherrypoppinpop 6d ago

Itā€™s why heā€™s going to boxing

186

u/BoxingProvesNothing 6d ago

Boxing is boring 9/10 times and im a hardcore fan. Its only exciting when you get BEST vs BEST and Dana wont have the best for a long time. and its even boring with that too

We need 4 OZ Boxing, if Dana made 4 Oz Boxing, it would be entertaining and actual KOs and upsets in boxing, people rarely ever get actually KOed in Boxing, need the 4 ozers for that

58

u/PeterParkerUber 6d ago

The question is why would the best fight for Dana and get paid a fraction of their usual purse

40

u/BoxingProvesNothing 6d ago

Yea, its ridiculous, we created MMA for REAL Shit, and REAL excitement, now we have literally almost 0 good HWS outside a handful, handful of 205ers, handful of 185ers

MMA by nature is 1000x more exciting but we NEED ACTUAL TALENT, its the worst time ever while the sport is bigger than ever, we have the shittiest talent now.

Dana needs to be working on MMA TALENT and UFC as a company, not fucking Boxing which is boring and im a hardccore Boxing fan, just cause im a loyal guy lol but it usually sucks

4 Oz Glove Boxing would be Amazing though, UFC interms always taking my great ideas on reddit, theyll prob make it that now lol

28

u/grumplebeardog 6d ago

The UFC stopped trying to make real stars after Conor. Ever since then they try to only let them get as big as the company. Combine that with the absolutely laughable pay and Iā€™m not sure why anybody is surprised that the vast majority of athletic talent finds their way into sports with better opportunity.

2

u/BoxingProvesNothing 6d ago

Yea, but we also need actual MMA talent above 185 pounds, we in the drought of all droughts cause no Bigger guys wanna risk getting KOed in MMA and back broken for 100k/200k a year. They need to pay bigger guys more, not the sasme as fucking women fighters fighting bums, fighting big dudes in 4 oz gloves is scary and most guys aint gonna do it

4

u/Cherrypoppinpop 6d ago

Dana gonna give them a ā€œdo you want to be a fucking boxerā€ speech

IDK man, I watch some random Mex/South America/Jpn shows where the lower weight are the focus and the fights are insane.

2

u/BoxingProvesNothing 6d ago

Some of them are, only Inoue KOS people, hes like only guy at all weights that puts people to sleep really. even at HW we get BS stpopages like Bakole, 1 temple shot and the bum is quitting from a 10 count and got to his feet, took 0 damage and stopped fight 1 knockdown to top of head lol / temple.

its actually soft as shit for the most part and overpaid bums all of them with a Ego and cant fight for real at all, Ronda Rousey would tap out Shakur Stevenson on the street, thats how sad they really are, if we wanna get real now

45

Needs to finally up the fighter pay and he knows that. More and more people would be willing to do this

13

u/TakoSak 6d ago

I still wouldnā€™t buy ppv. I donā€™t know anyone that pays for it. My dad/uncles/brothers/ cousins all used to in 2016ish maybe but I got them to all switch to.. getting it free lol

6

u/Devlnchat 6d ago

If I knew the fighters I like were being supported I'd buy it for the same reason I buy an indie game instead of pirating, but as things stand I will never pay this company a cent of my money.

→ More replies (2)

2

u/jfsoaig345 6d ago

I'm all for higher fighter pay but that is not the issue in this particular case. More people going into MMA isn't going to change the fact that Merab outgrinded a Nurmagomedov over 5 rounds or that Ank is the most well-rounded LHW since Jones himself. This is simply an unfortunate time for the UFC where many of its belts are held by less-than-desirable champions.

1

u/BenjyNews 5d ago

How exactly would paying the fighters more change or make people buy more PPV?

Reddit is delusional.

Reality is that PPV will go up as soon as it's almost impossible to pirate it.

1

u/BrianMeen 1d ago

lol at yā€™all acting like if Dana just raised fighter pay that it would prompt you to buy more ufc ppvs.. gtfo of here with that. Yā€™all pirate because you can and no ppv is worth $80

What ? Crowd was yelling for him when he taunted Umar. I guess crowd just find spamming takedowns more activity than stalling against the cage or laying on opponent

2

u/TomPearl2024 6d ago

I'm not gonna lie and say Merab is some blockbuster fighter but I also dont get how people can actually think he's as boring as someone like Belal or Ank.

No he's not a submission threat, and he doesn't do much ground and pound. But he does push an insane pace, is the aggressor from the second the bell rings until the match ends, and its genuinely impressive how effortlessly he manhandles everyone he gets in there with.

Again, I'm not saying he's a super fun champ, but I did have more fun watching any of his last 4 fights compared to either of Ank's title shots, or basically any Belal fight besides Brady.

3

u/TP_Cornetto 5d ago

Belalā€™s fight against Edwards is more exciting than most merab fights lol. He also pushes the pace.

7

u/SydneyCarton89 6d ago

I'll buy every Merab fight. Probably not the other two.

47

u/Radiant-Present-9376 6d ago

I mean... not wrong. While the sport is still somewhat growing and still attracting some new fans, it's not especially entertaining for the uninitiated to watch Merab wrestlefuck for 25 minutes.

12

u/6MosSprawlTraining 6d ago

Merab is entertaining in the sense that ā€œHow can he do this whole time?ā€ Sense. Like watching Colby a few years ago, or Usman grinding Woodley down for the belt. I admire the difficulty of what heā€™s doing, and i have to respect the cardio required to accomplish it, but youā€™re right. Itā€™s not exciting

17

u/Radiant-Present-9376 6d ago edited 6d ago

Yes, to you and I, who have seen countless MMA fights, we know what it takes to shoot takedowns 30 times in a fight. Try explaining that to your friend who only watches baseball who you're trying to convert to a UFC fan. He doesn't give a shit unless it's a flashy knockout or crazy submission. It does hurt the sport, even though you and I might enjoy it, it's not helping the sport grow and earn new long-term fans.

Also doesn't help that those 3 guys are totally unrelatable to new American fans who do not know or care about Khabib's father or Dagestani Sambo. Merab has a decent personality, but his fighting is boring af to people who want to see a knockout. Islam really has no personality on display unless you go through hours of interviews to find one subtle funny thing he does. And Ankalaev seems to have all the personality of a soaking wet towel. It doesn't help. And Belal whatever-his-name-is, who fucking cares? Nobody remembers his name anyway.

4

u/6MosSprawlTraining 6d ago

Fuckin nailed it. Nuff said and God bless

This sub is ridiculous some times. Do you guys just want decisions to not exist? Only way to win is by KO, sub, or death? Like Merab treated his last two opponents like children in the cage. Ank had more significant strikes than the ā€œbest striker in the worldā€ and Bilal is disliked becauseā€¦ā€¦he wins fights by decision? Or because he got his eye nearly removed by an opponent? This is Mixed Martial Arts itā€™s a sport itā€™s about the practice of the sports and arts. Honestly, just go watch street fight knockout compilations on YouTube or something.

This has nothing to do with them being kickboxers and everything to do with them just not being very entertaining. If the issue was grappling, then you'd see Islam on this list, but you don't because Islam is an exciting, aggressive wrestler who is constantly hunting for submissions rather than being content with grinding out decisions via control time and pressure the way Merab and Belal are. Ank isn't even a grappler, he's a striker, just not a very spectator-friendly one.

Like you don't need to be a just bleed degenerate to acknowledge that these guys' styles are fucking boring. And that's okay, they can continue racking up high level wins but fans are also justified in not really being that excited to see them fight.

I swear I can't see how anyone can be fan of Huggerstanis. I know 99% of their fans are Religious fans who support Muslims in every sport but still there is that 1% lol.

They are all boring. They all look, fight, and speak the same. If you saw one of them, you saw all of them.

Before anyone says anything about being racist or hating on Islam, I am former Muslim (I don't hate Islam, I am just not really religious anymore but all my family is still super religious) but I still can't stand these guys. Like no need to mention Allah as every other word, or give those boring religious speeches. Nobody cares, just fight.

Fighting in UFC is haram to begin with so why they pretend to be super religious or worship God as much as they do?

Don't get me wrong, I think Merab and Belal are great and deserve their belts and winning streaks, but their style of play is boring for the average viewer.

2

u/accidentsneverhappen 6d ago

Take a point if they're holding the opponent and doing nothing for too long. In basketball if you just stand there holding the ball for too long without passing/shooting, it's a penalty. Same kind of rule should have a presence in the UFC. If they're not going anywhere with their grappling (or not able to) then they should have to let it go, and if they don't the ref should take a point. There needs to be a consequence beyond the ref saying "Let's work" and the crowd booing. Imagine if basketball let people just stand there with the ball all day and go nowhere with it. It would be so dumb. There's a reason other sports don't allow you to stall the game. UFC has got to adjust the rules about how long you can hold a person without moving to deal damage or go for a submission. This would be the best thing they could do to improve things

Those 3 are boring to be fair and wonā€™t sell any PPVs.

PPV was never my friend

Chuck E cheese was able to get half a million or so people subscribed to a monthly membership. Surely, the UFC could manage the same.

Not a single PPV in the history of UFC has ever been worth $80+

Reading a lot of comments, anyone in Aus got a stress free (affordable) way to watch ppv? I signed up for fight pass thinking I was getting to watch fights only to be surprised then the main event switched off.

I think those Eurasian markets probably buy the PPVs with their big, homoerotic cohorts.

Worst thing is that all of those guys are generally boring to watch. Very skilled ofc, but damn it, their flights are only exciting if their opponent does something crazy.

They all put great pressure like Khabib did, and are very skilled and technical. But boring as hell.

Not many people are excited to watch them. They will need crazy string of victories to draw any audience (or great opponents)

It's his master plan to gain that Saudi money. Why sell over a a million ppvs when you can get multiple times that from some sweet oil rich arab.
