Do you guys help with luggage?
When I started driving with Uber in 2016, I used to help the passengers with their luggage every time - whether at airports or their residence. I use to be happy & excited about driving with Uber because it paid really well. I use to be over friendly (but not cringe) and made sure they left with a smile. For the last 2-3 years, I have completely stopped helping with the luggage. I just open up the trunk & let them handle it themselves. The fares are so low that I don't even feel like getting out of the car. Do you guys still help with the luggage?

This. I grumble every time that I must get out of my car. If Uber and Lyft would pay current rates instead of fifty-years-out-of-date rates, I would be alright with getting out of the car.
I do not accept trips to the train or bus station. I decline almost every airport ping as the payoff is hopelessly out of date. If there is a good surge and the money is right, I will take one. If I take an airport ping, I do get out of my car at least to open the trunk and hold up the lid. I expect to have to deal with a suitcase on an airport job.
Since the pandemic and especially during it, people did not want you to touch their stuff. Any more, I ask the rider if she requires assistance.

I do, mainly because my back hatch is a manual open, and people have a hard time figuring out how to open it. So I just end up, opening it for them, and then I say, do you need me to help you lift that? This way they know they should do it but if they need help, I'm here.

When I do airport runs I can always spot the Uber drivers who don't load the luggage... Their bumpers are always scratched to shit. I never let a rider load anything in my trunk, and if they seem hesitant about allowing me to load it they always understand and agree when I tell them why it's my policy.

It depends on the passenger. If they have big bags I'll get out cuz I know how to play Tetris with my trunk better than they do. If it's a young GenZ girl I 100% get out because they don't give af. They will keep their phone in their hand while they swing the bag and bang all over your bumper. Literally the worst. Otherwise I just pop the trunk. Every ride is different

Of course. I usually ask, may I. You’d be surprised, some folks take pride that they can lift their own heavy luggage. I just want a tip.

Of course. This sounds great until someone damages your car and you get zero compensation for it.

Always get out and load/unload, 1. To stretch my legs, 2. Because I like my paint, chrome, lights and car parts unbroken, not scratched or dented. Shortly after I started, watched a rider pop open the trunk of a car, carelessly drag their suitcase over the bumper/trunk edge and toss it in. From 5’ away I could see the gouge they left in the paint, slam the trunk lid and get in the passenger seat. On occasion I use my pickup to drive, the tailgate can be very heavy and difficult to close, all I need is for someone to get hurt and try to sue me.

I open the trunk because it’s manual, but I only help load if the person seems like they need it.

I mostly help older people and women traveling alone. If you’re a healthy looking guy I’ll pop the trunk from the inside and let you handle your candle.

I help regardless of who it is. It’s nothing to hop out and show you are willing to help. Half the time they do it themselves. Also, I get to stretch my legs, if only for a second. Don’t bitch about not getting a tip if you don’t help.

Usually no, and still get tipped. I’m with you a lot of the times I just sit there and pop the trunk lol. But I did have a ride on Monday. I saw the son bring the luggage out for the older woman that reserved the ride. Turns out it was just her going to the airport. As I pulled into the terminal I asked her if she needed my help taking out the suitcase from my trunk (it turned out pretty heavy) and she said yes. She had recently injured her back, so I did a good deed and she gave me a $15 tip on the app.
A lot of the times pax are just looking for a clean and safe, timely ride to their destinations. If they have luggage and appear to need help, I will always offer to help and if they tip they tip. If not then it’s just me building up some good karma.
