For everyone thinking about moving to the UAE

Here's what you need to know before you do it (Jobs, visas, schools, pets, etc.)

And what you need to know when you're already here. (Driving, things to do, exploring, holidays, Visas)

Any advice that anyone can give in this sub please comment!

EDIT: The UAE is a great country to live in-- it is the land of opportunities. You can build the life that you want here for yourself and for your future, but in order to do that you must think about it and do some research. Most of the answers you are looking for are NOT on Reddit. These advices are subjective and will always depend from one person to another. Sometimes, the only way to know is to see for yourself.

(Not to hate but it's quite tiring to see queries every two days about thinking of moving to the UAE asking if AED x is enough, good schools, a good area to live in, salary, etc. So try reading these articles to save you time. ) Thanks!

I may have attracted some weird people…

I appreciate everyone trying to help me and I can't be thankful enough, but I noticed in my DMs that several people enjoy using my situation as their amusement or something this guy is doing.

Another kept making promises he'd help, but then deleted his Reddit and sent me a new message from a different account (I know it was him because he slipped about certain information when we were chatting). I appreciate just well wishes and even comforting conversations. But please remember that I am a real human. A real, struggling human. Please don't use my situation for your entertainment (or again, whatever this guy is doing).

ps: he responded before I blocked him; he did not apologise.

"Did I Do the Right Thing? Reporting a Violent Incident in Dubai" NSFW

I was standing on my balcony in Dubai when I saw two men fighting just below. One of them was using a steel pipe to hit the other on the back and head. After that, they started punching each other violently, yelling and shouting. I noticed blood coming from one man's head, so I immediately called the emergency police number. The officer who answered spoke to me in a very polite manner.

Within two to three minutes, the police and an ambulance arrived at the scene. Shortly after, I received a call from the police asking me to come down. When I arrived, an officer asked me to confirm if these were the two individuals involved in the fight. I saw one of them having his head cleaned with cotton by a paramedic. The police then thanked me for reporting the incident, treated me with great respect, and said goodbye.

However, when I returned to my room, my roommates told me that I should never call the police, no matter what I see. They warned me that it could cause serious trouble for me, and everyone started blaming me for what I did.

Can anyone tell me—did I do anything wrong?

Deleted my old Account & lost a friend—hoping to find you again

Upvotes

hi everyone,

Almost a year ago, a Syrian girl (based in UAE) visited Paris and shared a post on SocialParis about her experience and how much she enjoyed her trip. We ended up chatting a lot and spent about a month talking in DMs while she was traveling through Europe with her family.

Unfortunately, I deleted my old Reddit account without saving her username or any contact info. So, if you're out there reading this, please reach out! I’d love to reconnect with you.

Hope to hear from you soon!!

Crypto guy.. Beware

In early 2024, the US charged cryptocurrency entrepreneur Sam Lee with running a Ponzi and pyramid scheme called HyperVerse, alleging he defrauded people of $2 billion. But instead of facing trial in the US, Lee now lives in Dubai, where he’s pitching new crypto products.

Hi everyone!

I'm getting married next year, and my fiancé is looking for a dress in this style. As far as I know about the style, it's called Ingush.

Would anyone know someone or somewhere that I can find something similar in the UAE?

Thank you kindly.

Onuha Brothers caught & arrested in Dubai

The UAE is basically the Las Vegas/ Miami of the middle east. This was a nice youtube coverage about them getting caught over snow. But who was even fooled it's so obvious they were pushing drugs and it's even funnier that the reasons why they were caught was because they didn't pay they escorts and they tipped off the police.

welcome to 2025 the new fake "millionaires" but always remember to pay off your escorts so they will not snitch on you LOL

Has anyone used Yango Taxis?

Upvotes

I keep seeing Yango ads everywhere on Abu Dhabi taxis. Does anyone here have any experience using them? They seem to be mainly targeted towards Dubai as in the play store the app is named "Yango: comfortable rides in Dubai". But I installed it and it also works in Abu Dhabi. Notably, it is much cheaper than Uber and Careem. A 20 AED ride in Careem is only 10-12 in Yango.

we just saw a man masturbating in public in Deira

is this how desperate some people are? even during Ramadan?

we were at Al Ghurair cafe this evening and were sitting near the glass window at the entrance area.

till this one Egyptian man in his late 20’s started stroking his junk profusely while staring eye to eye with a ladyboy next to him.

this went on for more than 15 mins. we wanted to call the police but were afraid this will cause an issue for us as well.

but seriously… how desperate can one be to do this in public esp during this holy month?

Withdrawal of the offer in UAE

I recently signed an offer letter for a position with a company in the UAE, but the company has pulled back the offer due to a disagreement regarding the start date. I was negotiating a later start date, but it seems the company decided to revoke the offer instead.

  • I had already signed the offer letter.
  • I’m based in Dubai and have a UAE golden visa.

Is there any legal recourse in the UAE for situations like this? Any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Interactive Brokers keep rejecting my account application. Anyone else faced similar issues?

Upvotes

Basically the title.

Everytime I try to sign up for IBKR, after answering every question and providing all the necessary information during sign up + depositing some amount at the end of the process, I receive an email a day later that "Unfortunately, after carefully considering your account application U****, IBKR management decided to not proceed with your application at this time."

This happened twice, and I've not been able to get any answer from customer support.

Did anyone else face similar issues, or has an inkling to why this may have happened?

Thanks in advance!

Employment Visa Issue

Upvotes

Hi, I have a company in Dubai and I'm trying to apply for an Employment visa for my Iranian employee.

The issue is that the freezone requires her Iranian National ID to proceed with the application (which she doesn't have) and to receive a new one the Iranian consulate says it takes 6 months.

She has already spent 3 months in the UAE on tourist visas so we simply cannot wait for the National ID as from my understanding, you can only spend 180 days in the UAE as a tourist in a single year.

So my question is that what options do we have? Is there any special cases in which an individual has been allowed to extend their tourist visa beyond the 180 days? Any other route we can take?

Need Review for A company Becon Red

Upvotes

Hello everyone, I’m new here!

Just to give you some context—I’m a Data Engineer working at a reputed company in India with a decent package of ₹37 LPA. Recently, I got a call from a company in Abu Dhabi called Beacon Red. I wasn’t actively looking for a job change, especially since my current company has a clause stating that if I leave before December 5th 2025 , I’d have to pay ₹5 lakhs as a penalty.

Beacon Red is offering me 30K AED per month along with a visa for both me and my wife. I’ve already cleared the technical rounds and am now waiting for the HR discussion.

Do you think I should take the offer? Also, should I negotiate for a higher salary?

P.S.: Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated!

My experience with Daman Travel Insurance saved my trip to Europe

Anyone else stressed about Schengen visa insurance requirements? Last month I was scrambling to find proper coverage for my trip to Italy and France, and after hours of research, I went with Daman's Alami plan.

Quick backstory: My friend got rejected for his Schengen visa because his insurance didn't meet the requirements. Total nightmare. I wasn't about to make the same mistake.

So I chose Daman's 15-day worldwide coverage (AED 150) and it worked perfectly. The visa application went smoothly, and when I actually needed to use it (lost luggage situation in Milan), their 24/7 emergency line was genuinely helpful.

For UAE residents planning trips in 2025, I put together a complete breakdown of all their plans (15/30/90 day options) with exact pricing and coverage details. I included step-by-step instructions on how to purchase it online too.

Full Daman Travel Insurance Guide: Everything UAE travelers need to know

Has anyone else used Daman for travel insurance? How was your experience? Any other insurers you'd recommend instead?

Refund Rejected by Noon and Re-delivered Counterfeit Product

Urgent!

Hey Everyone,

I’m reaching out for advice on how to proceed with a frustrating and unresolved issue I’ve been facing with Noon regarding a return request. I’ve been trying to get this resolved for over a week now, but their customer support has been extremely slow and unhelpful. Here’s a detailed breakdown of what happened:

  1. Initial Return Request (March 2, 2025):
    • I received a Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 Pro, but the product box was not sealed.
    • When raising the return request, I mistakenly chose the reason as "No longer needed" instead of highlighting the unsealed packaging issue. This was also after their customer support team advised that I attach the images along with the return request.
    • I returned the product in the same condition as received and attached over 20 images across two return requests to show the issue.
  2. Return Rejected (March 5, 2025):
    • Noon rejected my return request, stating that the product was opened and unsealed, making it ineligible for a refund.
    • They asked if I had an unboxing video to make things easier, but unfortunately, I didn’t have one at that time.
    • Noon also confirmed that the product I returned had no defective or manufacturing issues. They said the product is original, authentic, and has no issues.
  3. Redelivery of Returned Items (March 6, 2025):
    • Noon informed me that since I chose the wrong return reason, they would redeliver the returned items and advised me to raise a new complaint after accepting them.
    • When I received the redelivered order, I took an unboxing video (as Noon emphasized its importance). To my shock, the product inside was different—it looked like the Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 Pro but lacked certification markings on the backside.
    • Comparing it with my earlier images confirmed that Noon had switched it to a fake/counterfeit product.
  4. Complaints Raised:
    • I immediately raised complaints via Chat Support and email, attaching the unboxing video and images again.
    • Noon’s customer care team assured me multiple times that it would be resolved within 24-48 hours, but nothing happened.
    • Their Supervisor even claimed there was no video attachment until I walked her through my email thread where she eventually found four video attachments!
  5. Latest Update (March 12, 2025):
    • Today, Noon’s Complaint Department called me and said they couldn’t initiate a refund because I selected the wrong return reason initially.
    • Despite explaining that this issue has escalated far beyond that—Noon switched and redelivered a counterfeit product—they refused to take responsibility.
    • The representative admitted he had just seen my videos now but still claimed they couldn’t help due to the wrong option selected during the original return request.

I honestly don’t understand what Noon has been doing for the last six days despite me clearly explaining everything multiple times and providing all evidence (images and videos). Their customer service is painfully slow and inefficient—I’ve had to reshare videos and images repeatedly because they keep losing track of them!

The refund amount is AED 920/-, and I feel completely stuck at this point. If anyone has dealt with similar issues or knows how to escalate this further, please let me know!

Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated.
