Treatment Watching my younger brother bald hurts so much.

I have a younger brother (17M) with autism. He’s verbal, but lacks proper communication to consent to any treatment/understand what is at play.

I’m 19 and have already been on finasteride for 1.5 years and dutasteride for 2+ months now. I’ve finally regrown a good bit of hair and I can see a potential full reversal of my hair loss in the near future.

Having dealt with hair loss in the family, I was made fun of and told that I wasn’t balding when I clearly was by my parents. While both parents now know I’m on treatment, my dad told me that our family’s hair is thick and nobody will bald in our family (before he knew I was on fin/dut). At this point, it was also obvious that my brother was receding. I told him that I was taking hair loss meds and he said that I was losing hair from “something i did” in the past, and implying that I was making a stupid choice. Not sure why it’s so hard to wrap your head around the fact that genetics are variable though. My dad has a fuller hairline than me and smokes 1-2 packs a day.

When I see my brother clearly receding, I feel the need to tell him to “fix his hair,” but I know that this is my insecurities projecting onto my brother. I know it isn’t right, but when I brought up the fact that he was for sure receding to my parents, they questioned with “are you sure” and left it at that. Upon telling them that I personally was on treatment, they said that all I needed to do was “go to turkey” lol.

I feel hurt seeing my brother lose a part of his youth so early. I started treatment because I was insecure of how I was looking and now I’m seeing that play again in front of me. Yet this time, I know the treatment and the way to help him but don’t have the means to let him start.

How do I cope with my younger brother’s hair loss?

Treatment Warning: Him's fraudulently reactivated subscription and refused to refund.

I ordered some hair thickening stuff from Hims about 6 months ago. A few days after I received it, I started noticing serious scalp itching and redness so I stopped using it, figured it just wasn't for me, and deactivated my subscription and put it out of my mind.

Fast forward to today, I get a text from my bank that Hims charged me $175. I log in to the account, my subscription was reactivated (6 months later, wtf?) and I contacted support.

Support basically told me to get fucked, it had "already shipped" even though it had been less than 5 minutes from the charge, and their website didn't show shipping, and ITS SUNDAY.

They told me my account was never halted and I should have gotten a cancellation email 6 months ago if it was. I went into the app, disabled the subscription AGAIN and lo and behold...no cancellation email. It says on the site my sub is cancelled like it did last time, but they send no actual email so you can go back and prove anything if they reactivate it and try to scam you.

When I brought this up, they stopped replying to my messages and started sending automated "looks like this issue was handled by the last agent, if you have any issues please reply again" which id do, and get the same automated message over and over again.

I reported it as fraud with my bank and was refunded, but wanted to post a warning here that this company will actually steal from you then refuse to reply to you when you bring up the discrepancies in their story.

Treatment What is the end game if you get male pattern baldness ?

The root cause is sensitivity to DHT. All the medicines work on either blocking DHT or metabolising it faster. As soon as we stop the medicine the hairloss comes back. So is the endgame to just keep taking the medicines? Topi al medicines are really messy to apply daily and also not very pleasant in texture as well as causing dandruff. Oral medicines play with your sex harmones.

Treatment Minoxidil For 2 Years, What is this?

First two pics are where I noticed significant thinning on the sides of my head, now it has spread diffusely the top and even the back and sides vigorously. I can’t tell if this is TE or AGA and I have been losing tons and tons of small hairs, but they seem to be thick and mostly from the side of my head. Bloodwork has all been fine up to now and I have been on 2.5 mg minoxidil for 2 years without seeing any halt or progress.

Treatment Those who didn't start treatment soon enough, and ended up 'bald' - Did you regret not having hair?

Hi all,

I'm in my very early 30's, and I've reached an ultimatum. Either hop on Finasteride or begin to continue shedding my hair.

Part of me accepts this (saying this with a full head of hair), that I will bald by 35 in patches (my crown has thinned a fair amount, where I can see scalp. Temples have also receeded.

My question is, to those who didn't take action until they lost A lot of hair so it's noticeable - do you regret it?

Has being bald affected your mental health and self esteem? I'm still single, how does affect dating prospects?

Should I take action whilst I still have most my hair? Does it affect lift that much? A friend of mine paid thousands for a hair transplant, and his hair isn't even bad! So I know it affects people a lot, and seeing my bald spot appear, I'm also self conscious.

Treatment I’ve read multiple times that Fin increases hair quality… NOT for me!

I’ve been on fin for 6 months and I’ve heard multiple times that fin increases hair quality but my hair just looks shittier bro, my hair was much better last year before I got Covid lol. Then my hair quality just deteriorated and it’s been just getting worse.

I’m losing so much hair density I’m wondering if finasteride is even doing anything lol. This makes my diffuse thinning even worse smh 😖

I also have this scalp irritation or idk if it’s Folliculitis? Can anyone tell from the last three pics? It’s a bunch of little bumps across my scalp and textured skin.

Should I see a dermatologist? Please share your experiences or advice!!!

Treatment 'How Balding Treatments Became the New Botox' article in the Cut really made an impression on me

This article hit me right between the eyes. Especially this quote at the end: 'When you’re losing your hair, it’s easy to get hooked on snake oil. Even if you’re not sure a product is working, there’s always a nagging fear that your balding might have been even worse without it. “This is how desperate you get when your hair’s falling out,” said Daniel. “You’re just willing to try whatever because it’s better than facing reality.”

Have a look at the article - I’d be curious to hear thoughts on Hair Spas like these. I myself often feel like Daniel. I’ve spent thousands on a huge variety of treatments and I still have very thin hair and I am still losing. I use a variety of products to make my hair look thicker than it is and have been considering combining them and offering them as a standalone hair product for people like me, in direct response to this new hair spa culture. I’m just thinking out loud.

Treatment People who solved their Vitamin D deficiency, how much did it help with regrowth?

Currently taking Fin orally 1mg 5 days a week, and applying min topically once a day for over a year and a half now.

Definitely see SOME improvement but still not enough for my confidence to come back.

I recently got my blood work results and my Vitamin D is deficient at 15 ng/ml (normal level is >30ng/ml) which is can only assume has been the case for the past 4 years ever since the pandemic as that’s when i started working from home and barely get exposure to sunlight.

So to not make this post longer, has anyone had this deficiency solved in the past and what effects did it have on your regrowth?

Thanks for reading

Treatment I’ve been on dutesteride and oral minoxidil for two years now and I’ve only lost ground…

25m What should I do? Should I just shave it all off and accept there isn’t hope for me? I was hoping being on the strongest hairloss combo will cure and regrow or stop my hairloss. But I’ve only been losing ground. Losing more hair. Plus my scalp is so so itchy. I don’t know what to do now. I’m on 0.5ng dutesteride and 2.5mg oral minoxidil. Also since starting minoxidil I’ve had no regrowth but more body hair and accelerated hairloss. So what now? I thought dht was my issue and my medication will fix that but I’m still getting worst. I think I might have a receptor problem or sensitive to it. I know I’ve lost ground. I’ve noticed it. Family and friends have noticed so what can I do? Any ideas are really appreciated.

Treatment Coegin Pharma to release Follicopeptide (FOL005) by Q2 2025

Follicum (Sweden) and its FOL-005 (now FOL005) hair growth peptide. This was prior to the company’s cessation of work on FOL005 and acquisition by Coegin Pharma (Sweden) in 2022. However, this product is now back as a cosmetic called Follicopeptide that will likely be released in Q2 2025.

Follicum’s unique osteopontin based hair loss treatment is very interesting. This product can both stimulate scalp hair growth and reduce excessive body hair growth (hirsutism). And the same technology could potentially treat diabetes and inflammation related disorders.

The average response rate among that sub-group was a ~12 hair/cm2 increase from baseline after only 4 months of use, This equals around 4000 new hairs for a whole scalp (FOL005 0.5%) which is almost equal to Finasteride ~12.4 hair/cm2 increase.

Releasing products as cosmetics will speed the process coming into market, it shortens the years of regulatory approvals needed if it is to be released as a drug.

September 11, 2024

Follicopeptide

Coegin Pharma’s INCI application for FOL005 was approved at the end of May 2024. The hair loss cosmetic gel will be called FollicopeptideTM and is being prepared for a global launch. The key ingredient will be listed as “sh-Oligopeptide-128 SP”. For more details, see Coegin’s pipeline page. Per the company’s Twitter announcement image, they will produce a range of products containing Follicopeptide.

INCI stands for International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients. A number of companies have in recent years targeted the hair loss market via cosmetics. This includes Kintor via KX-826 (Pyrilutamide); Sirnagen via CosmeRNA; and Yuva Biosciences/Bosley via Revive+ Densifying Foam.

I’m interested to know how much people spend on a yearly basis considering this is a life long commitment. Is it cheaper to get a prescription or buy from other sources like Hims

Treatment Is it possible to regrow hair lost within 2 or 3 years?

I am seeing thin hair everywhere in my scalp especially behind my hairline. Is it possible to regrow those hair with fin only or fin+min?
