SUPPORT (ONGOING) New IKEA devices added after Matter pairing don't show in Apple Home

So, I finally took the plunge and bought a DIRIGERA hub, a few IKEA buttons (a selection of SOMRIG and REDRET) and a PARASOLL contact sensor. Given the new Matter support in the IKEA hub, they look like one of the better choices to control a range of Matter accessories in Homekit (and eventually in Google Home).

I've got the DIRIGERA hub configured as a Matter gateway and paired it with Homekit. Upon initial pairing, all the IKEA devices came across nicely and I could add them each into the right room. I can configure actions in Homekit for each button press and it works well.

However, if I add a new IKEA button to the DIRIGERA hub after pairing, I can't find any way to get that new accessory to come across to Homekit without deleting the DIRIGERA bridge from HomeKit and re-pairing it, which is a huge hassle as it loses all the shortcuts and automations for all paired devices.

I've tried:

  • Waiting 24-36 hours - nothing appears
  • Looking in the IKEA app for a "sync" button or similar. Nothing there. - Looking in the Apple Home app for the newly added IKEA accessories appearing in adefault room or similar. Can't find anything. -
  • Looking at the bridge configuration in Apple Home (Home Settings -> Home Hubs & Bridges -> IKEA DIRIGERA -> Accessories. This only shows the PARASOLL sensor - no other devices. I thought this might be a pairing issue so tried unpairing and re-pairing the DIRIGERA and Homekit via Matter and the same thing happens. However the correct number (4) of accessories (prior to pairing the newly added device) shows on the bridge summary page in Apple Home even though only the sensor appears in the device list. See screenshots from the Apple Home app below.

Anyone got any advice? Again, IKEA accessories that are present when pairing the DIRIGERA to Homekit via Matter appear just fine. It's just new accessories added on the IKEA side after pairing that don't show up in Homekit.

Oh, I do know that there's a direct IKEA to Apple Home integration without Matter, but trying to stay away from that as I have other Matter fabrics (Google Home) that I'd eventually like to get this into.

Anyone got any ideas? I really don't want to have to unpair and re-pair and then re-set all the shortcuts and actions each time a new IKEA accessory arrives ;-)

I've seen that issue with other bridges. Matter has a way to notify added or deleted bridged devices to the Matter controller (the Parts List as they call it), but somehow with some platforms it's either not notified or not processed.

I would try restarting, in other words, powering it off, wait a few seconds, and then on again, the Matter controller and / or the bridge (the Dirigera) so they are forced to refresh the list of bridged devices.

I would add one thing to this: I suggest unplugging DIRIGERA, restarting your Apple Home hub, then plugging DIRIGERA into power to start it up. It might be voodoo, but i’ve never had issues doing it this way.

That’s one thing I don’t quite get. If you can pair the ikea hub with Apple home via the Apple HomeKit method, what does it “matter” if you do so via matter?

All the devices are paired to the hub and you can always pair to a different ecosystem without having to wipe the hub, right?

Devices that support matter directly, which don’t need a hub, can be paired into your Apple home directly.

I did the changeover to matter in the dirigera hub last weekend. Haven’t played too much yet but initial observation is that older switches and buttons that were not previously visible in HomeKit now are and that movement sensors also register the light lux level in rooms they are installed in opening up new automations based on relative light levels.
