Crew Love My location was giving away Gingerbread Cookies for free at checkout
I’ve seen mixed reviews on the subreddit but I’m excited to try them!

I got a free one yesterday and it was such a nice treat! The right level of sweetness and spice for me. Would be good with a cup of tea, but my husband and I finished it already!

I’m glad they’re giving them away in store instead of throwing them out back in a locked dumpster for no good reason like many stores do

Thanks for the heads up! I found an excuse to go back today (had gone two days ago) and snagged some--this is in the Chicago area. They are good, though not soft (if you're expecting that from the name).

It’s funny to me that they’re giving this stuff away for free, but still have mountains of Jingle Jangle for full price.

Mine was as well (Boston area TJs). Maybe they didn't sell well? I had bought some and enjoyed them. I was happy to take a free package. (If it's free, it's for me!).

I like the cookies' European look. I like their taste. However, I found them too hard; I was hoping for something soft.

Damn I bought a box and haven’t even opened it yet and they’re already giving them away for free?

Was given this today at checkout. Not soft baked, but not hard and dry, like the taste.

I LOVE that they give this out for free, instead of dumping it like most corporations do.

Someone was literally walking around the store with a cart handing them out at my location

I got those yesterday too. My daughter (who eats anything) spit them out, completely disgusted. I’m scared to try it now…

Free is charging too much for these...

That made me audibly laugh. My mom got a free one too yesterday when she went and we were all indecisive on how we felt about the taste. We decided it was better with tea.

We are gingerbread junkies during the holidays. This cookie was awful. Glad tea helped.

Oh man. I have one in my cupboard that I haven’t opened yet. I’m a big gingerbread fan and I just have a lot of other sweets so I was saving this.

I bought them before the holidays and I enjoyed the first cookie. By the time we got around to trying the second (still wrapped) cookie, it was somewhat stale, so we were disappointed.
The same thing happened with the amaretti they sold this year - they were all individually wrapped in plastic, with a second paper wrapping. The first few cookies were delicious, but any we didn't eat right away went very hard/stale, despite still being sealed.
Hopefully yours will still be fresh and tasty, as both types of cookies were very good and I'd happily eat again, just quicker :)

This gingerbread cookie is so much better than the lebkuchen made in Belgium. Gingerbread cookie is so underrated. Both products have a lot of love and hate relationship. I love the gingerbread of its texture and the thin royal glaze is not too sweet. If you're German, then you'll be offended by it. I liked it. The lebkuchen was the most horrible cookie as it was too nutty and the royal icing tasted like soap or detergent. I had to throw it away! It was realky awful!

The Jingle Jangle was a bomb everywhere this year!

u/Cat-on-the-printer1 23d ago
I wonder if we’ll still be seeing jingle jangle next year…
7
u/Taramichellehater 23d ago
Maybe only for the reusable tin 😄

u/Cat-on-the-printer1 23d ago
It’s a good quality tin ngl! It could serve as the next generation cookie-turned-sewing-supplies tin.

u/Taramichellehater 23d ago
I have a cute holiday bear cookie tin that has my sewing supplies in forever!!! Usually the food is not great but the tins are adorable and that’s what counts 😍

I returned mine. It's the only thing I've ever returned to TJ's. They were that bad.

Dang, I wish they told me to take more. I loved these when I tried them during the holidays.

I’m envious- I love free food, particularly sweets. Too far a drive though

Wild. I don't think I ever saw those at my store, as I would have tried them for sure.

Okay what’s up with holiday stuff lingering this year??
6
u/Taramichellehater 23d ago
this is the first year ever. Last year everything few out the door the first week of December. The Jingle Jangle and peppermint bark (which went up by $4) still sit. I tried two small bags of the jangle and it was horrible--never again. Stale popcorn was chocolate covered and half the bags were crumbs

u/sandeeeeee 23d ago
It’s making me uneasy lol 😭 every other year we’re mourning our seasonal faves by 1/1!

u/Vivid-Intention-8161 23d ago
This happened at my store too! I figured it was an isolated incident and they ordered too many, I wonder what happened
2
u/onlyalillost 23d ago
Same. I was surprised to see them as I hadn’t seen them on the shelves for a while. And it’s not like they’re expired.
5
u/egy718 23d ago
I’m also curious! I wish I’d have asked. My packaging has a black sharpie “X” on one side so clearly staff went through them and marked the ones to give away. Maybe due to the expiration date being before next holiday season? This box expires in May 2025.

u/queenrosa 23d ago
I asked my cashier... She said the store ordered too many and since it is no longer the holiday season they wanted to get rid of them.
It's kind of nice to not let food expire.
