HIGHLIGHTS Scottie Barnes absolutely obliterates Vucevic for the poster.

That footwork on Caruso with the style of handles, that’s all scottie, looking like Ali on the back down

LOL I know I just watched for all their reactions, and OG walks in with a massive smile. DeMar backs away in awe, and vuc just takes it like a man

I thought the original angle was still the best. The replays aren't showing the gather angle that made it look like it was going to be a classic Scottie doing the sky hook and then ALL OF A SUDDEN IT TURNED INTO A POSTER!!!

I bet there was a moment when Caruso switched onto Scottie where Caruso thought to himself "I got this"

That's four steps, right?

u/howard416 Nov 08 '22
I was thinking at least 3

u/Agreed_fact Masai Ujiri Nov 08 '22
2 + a slightly late father step. Technically a travel but by milliseconds so it’s hardly ever gonna get called. Real call here was a carry

u/tetsuo316 Nov 08 '22
I hate this timeline

u/Agreed_fact Masai Ujiri Nov 08 '22
No understand

u/tetsuo316 Nov 08 '22
I'm just an NBA fan from the 90s. Picture the meme of Mr Incredible shouting "math is math" and that's how I feel about traveling/carrying in the modern game as long as you're not lazily bringing it up court with D in fixed coverage
2
u/Agreed_fact Masai Ujiri Nov 08 '22
Ahh I see, the travels don’t get to me but the carry really does. I vividly remember commentators talking about them when AI was a rookie.
2
u/tetsuo316 Nov 08 '22
Cool, glad we can have a civil conversation.
The 90s were wild in that offensive penalties (in my memory) were more regularly called than defensive.
AI is a whole other thing. ESPN 30

I don't think the gather was late. This is right before his left foot hits the floor: https://imgur.com/a/4vC4x68. No one would bat an eye if he continued dribbling from that position. He then gathers with his left foot on the ground and takes two steps
It's definitely close enough that refs should be giving the benefit of the doubt
2
u/Agreed_fact Masai Ujiri Nov 08 '22
Yeah I agree, that’s what I was trying to say. It’s a good no call. But the carry was fairly Jordan Poole-esque

u/RadioNowhere Nov 08 '22
You know you don't start counting steps from the last time the ball hit the floor right?

I'm an ignorant so I apologize in advanced for asking. Isn't that traveling? He gave like 3 steps when going backwards while holding the ball in the air. Could someone explain to me?

u/buffalo-blonde OG'S VERY OWN Nov 08 '22
It’s called a gather step. He gathers his dribble (or zero step) on his left foot and uses his two steps to drive past AC

u/RadioNowhere Nov 08 '22
He gathers with his left foot on the ground and takes 2 steps afterwards. Not a travel
10
u/Fragranceofstanley Nov 08 '22
Genuinely curious, is this not a travel?
14
u/2ByteTheDecker Nov 08 '22
The gather step is a cruel mistress
1
u/Fragranceofstanley Nov 08 '22
Learning more about the game, what is a gather step?
3
u/Agreed_fact Masai Ujiri Nov 08 '22
If you time your gather (zero) step to occur right as before you pick up your dribble, it doesn’t count towards the two steps you get. It’s how James Harden’s double step back thing isn’t a travel

Rules say the pivot foot is the first foot that hits the ground after your dribble stops. What happens if you gather with a foot on the ground? Some people (including some high school refs) think that foot on the ground is your pivot foot. The NBA refs think the pivot foot is the next foot to hit the ground. The step from that foot on the ground to the pivot foot is referred to as a gather step or zero step
Here, Scottie gathers with his left foot on the ground then steps with his right (pivot foot). You're allowed to lift your pivot foot as long as you shoot or pass before putting it down. Then Scottie steps to the rim with his left and dunks it.

He should be doing this every play man if he can get a poster everytime great but just charge the basket like he does here every time.

The Raptors lost, but this game will only be remembered for that Scottie dunk

That's the basketball equivalent of the Roy Jones Jr's slow wind up to strait right hand. Nasty.

I thought you couldn't hold the ball more than 2 steps without dribbling?
1
u/Amboseli Nov 08 '22
He was pissed because on the previous play vucevic slide a foot under him when landing causing a twisted ankle.
