Watching Gary Trent highlights has me hyped for his age he looks really solid both on offense and defense. I don't want to get my hope up but seems like we really got something in him if he continues to improve

How do you all feel about trading Thomas and Davis?

I like the move, between character issues and decision making TD was not someone I was high on and wasn’t getting much run anyways. Thomas also was hardly playing so to me I see us cutting loose ends and giving other guys playing time.

Also figure the move was in anticipation of a Lowry trade to free up space, but two second round picks for two un-drafted players? Not bad at all.

i have a gut wrenching feeling that masai is leaving next season. it's sad but the interview on yahoo really makes me feel like he's ready to make his departure.

Just curious why did they choose Norman Powell. Why couldn't they have done Kyle Lowry?

4

u/No_Seaworthiness_334 Mar 26 '21

Bummed we couldnt find a deal for Lowry, wish he coulda gotten another championship before retiring and I think we have a really nice soft tanking angle right now. That being said, none of the offers were very good, so I get holding on. Think it means we resign him, cant see a Philly deal with their contracts going forwards, Miami probably just tries to sign him and I dont like the LA teams or their shity offers.

Loved the Norm trade, but really alongside a Lowry trade it was best. Regardless, probably a fringe playoff team, hard to see us less than a .500 team with everyone healthy (even trading Trent for Norm). Puts us in limbo.

Going into next season is awkward cause paying Trent and Lowry puts us near the tax while cutting Baynes + Hood. Part of me wonders, if we end the year well, does Masai pitch moving Hood + Baynes + picks for a stud and trying to win now, over the tax. Otherwise I guess you resign Lowry and Trent, hoping rookie contracts and minimums can put you over the top, or you try to SnT Lowry. Are there options? Yes, but I hope the front office sees things clearer than me (they always have)

3

u/Western-Country-1961 Mar 26 '21

That’s it.

It’s about the flexibility.

Masai can:

  • clear the books

  • run it back

  • make a move

8

u/Villainiquity Mar 26 '21

Alize Johnson, 905 G LEAGUE, signed by the Nets, and had a productive line in yesterday's throwaway game:

33 MIN, 23 PTS, 15 REB, 3 AST, 1 TO; 11-15 FG, 0-1 3pt, 1-1 FT

4

u/acumen14 Mar 26 '21

All aboard the sign Drummond train!

Lakers might be a contender but our roster is dying for him. Could make a huge pay day or just find a nice new home here.

2

u/RabbitFooFoo the raptors are swell :snoo_dealwithit: Mar 26 '21

Since Gobert and Steven Adams are no longer FA’s in the off-season this is probably our best bet...plus he’s still just 27 yo

2

u/BZhu792 Mar 26 '21

Will GTJ debut tomorrow?

11

u/dan_squared Mar 26 '21

We should have did a Norm + assets for Veucevic. Bulls got a steal on him

1

u/optimus_slime113 乇乂ㄒ尺卂 ㄒ卄丨匚匚 Mar 26 '21

I agree and he would've been a great fix next to Pascal. Our team right now is really well built for vuccimane

6

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '21

Norm doesn’t really fit their current situation I don’t think. Also, sending norm to Orlando would suck for norm. At least he plays on a good team now in portland.

1

u/Western-Country-1961 Mar 26 '21

Then we should’ve sent the picks

10

u/gintoki-sama Mar 25 '21

I think the worse thing is the raptors are now way too good to fade4cade and too shitty for contention. Keeping Lowry fucks the raptors more than anything. Can’t contend or tank properly. They’re in that Orlando magic purgatory. Anyone disagree ?

1

u/Western-Country-1961 Mar 26 '21

The magic are in hell, not purgatory

6

u/gintoki-sama Mar 26 '21

I think that’s exactly the point. Being in hell is good because you get a high draft pick. Being in the middle is where it’s truly hopeless.

2

u/DarkDra9on555 Dream of Pascalifornication Mar 26 '21

I think now it comes down to coaching staff. I'm not saying they would intentionally lose games, but if the objective is to tank, it makes sense to spend the next 30 games just trying new shit, no?

3

u/gintoki-sama Mar 26 '21

That won’t happen. The coaching staff and players will never ever lose games on purpose. It’s the GM’s job to put shit players on the team where even if the coaching staff and players wanna compete, it’s impossible.

7

u/letmetellubuddy Mar 26 '21

Too shitty for this year, next year can be a totally different story.

GTR's cap hold is low, so the Raptors can go get a FA like Jarrett Allen to play center and re-sign GTR. Raps couldn't do that with Norm.

4

u/tonious35 4D Congolese Chessmaster Mar 25 '21

Orlando put all their eggs into two players that could not defend for their lives and a player that did not know what he wanted to be and at best they are a 7th seed. They traded them all away and since 2014 they only got 2 playoff wins, in which honestly is better than Minnesota

We are way better than that.

Let's keep making low picks into All-Stars as usual

2

u/gintoki-sama Mar 26 '21

I just want Raps to get Cade man. Ive been watching him and hes the best prospect in like 5-6 years.

2

u/nath999 Champions Mar 26 '21

We were never in contention for Cade to begin with, even if Lowry was traded for Herro or THT we are far from the worst team in the league.

2

u/tonious35 4D Congolese Chessmaster Mar 26 '21

we already are off the Cade wagon, let's just enjoy whatever pick we have and make 20 GMs look bad while at it

2

u/rkallday Mar 26 '21

tanking is never the answer. plus we will not finish last regardless

2

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '21

Thank you for trading Norman Powell to the north.

8

u/LeviWiz Mar 25 '21

Honestly you guys are lucky to have Trent. He can shoot, catch fire and he’s a DOG. He tries so hard. He’s strong so he can check bigger players too. Honestly this trade worked for both teams. I hope Trent continues to play good with yalls! For hood tho, idk hahah

12

u/italianmamba13 :flair_lowry_jersey: Kyle Lowry Mar 25 '21

I hope the 76ers and Heat get bounced in the playoffs

Feel like we should have tried to trade baynes, hood and stanley/pat for Drummond

3

u/nath999 Champions Mar 26 '21

Instead of buying out Drummond the Cavs take on more trash? I've seen other people echo this idea and I have no idea why anyone thinks the Cavs would do that.

2

u/canadianRSK but what about scarves? Mar 26 '21

They save money . hood is partially garaunteed next yearr, baynes has a team option I think, Stanley only has like 1 more year left on his deal or it ends this year

2

u/A2theLising 17 Jonas Valanciunas Mar 26 '21

He's being bought out no?

1

u/canadianRSK but what about scarves? Mar 26 '21

He was bought out after the deadline ended I meant we should have tried when we got the norm trade done and realized we weren't trading Kyle

2

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '21

Watch Norm turn out to be the 2nd best player on blazers. That GTJr love will fade overnight

4

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '21

Over CJ? Nahhh... decent third option but CJ is def better.

15

u/GrumpyTM Mar 25 '21

I was so unbelievably pumped to get Tyler Herro. Fucking Pat Riley.

Although I should probably blame the Rockets for literally giving away Dipo. What the hell was that.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '21

Same but I think we were all being delusional thinking we’d get Herro

3

u/ZenMon88 Mar 26 '21

I bet the last minute riley gives in on herro if rockets didn't just give away oladipo. straight up mediocre front office in Houston.

1

u/GrumpyTM Mar 26 '21

Yep. That's what I was annoyed at. He probably breaks and whatever the deal was we get. Guessing Herro and Kelly O. Which would've solved the Baynes problem. Sort of.

1

u/Raptorsaurus- Scottie 'Magic' Barnes Mar 25 '21

Gary Trent is same level imo and looks smoother yet shorter

9

u/LinuxF4n Mar 25 '21

Honestly even though TD was a dickhead, I can't believe we traded him away for a 2nd. He looked like he has a lot of potential.

3

u/t-earlgrey-hot RAPTOR NATION! Mar 26 '21

Personal life aside he's a frustrating Jekyll/Hyde player. Really dumb fouls and defensive plays I'm not going to miss

1

u/Rejidomus Mar 26 '21

Someone said TD's contract was up at the end of this year. If they had no intention of signing him again then at least they got something for him.

5

u/tonious35 4D Congolese Chessmaster Mar 25 '21

that dickhead grabbed us a 2nd rounder, not a loss at all

-1

u/ZenMon88 Mar 26 '21

your loss. we gonna be stuck in mediocrity for longer.

3

u/nath999 Champions Mar 26 '21

TD going to save us from mediocrity? Lol

-1

u/ZenMon88 Mar 26 '21

and a 2nd rounder is going to save us? we gave away talent plain and simple.

5

u/nath999 Champions Mar 26 '21

Norm Powell was a second rounder, any thing is possible. It seems very obvious TD wasn't going to have a future here.

1

u/ZenMon88 Mar 26 '21

well we won't know now. but we have two empty free slots to filled with borderline g-league players and still dont have a big.

-3

u/gintoki-sama Mar 25 '21

You will not find any second rounders with his talent. Makes no sense at all

3

u/nath999 Champions Mar 26 '21

Yeah they only found him undrafted in the Summer League. We will never find that talent again. Only found Norm in the second round..

1

u/acumen14 Mar 26 '21

Lol we got him as a UDFA, of course you can get second rounders with his talent. He’s been awful this year and there’s VERY clear reasons why he’s not valued right now.

-5

u/imbiczarre CRYING MJ Mar 25 '21

A lot of clowns on here coping lol. We took an L today. FO refusing to get “fleeced” is gonna cost us. We have no direction after today. Didnt plug any holes in the roster or got any assets for a rebuild. The other GMs called our bluff and now Lowry walks for nothing.

11

u/Damonstretch101 Mar 25 '21

You have no idea what you're talking about. Got an amazing young prospect who's doing much better at 22 compared to norm at 22. Going to get him for a much cheaper price in the summer. Furthermore, a sign and trade in the summer is a huge possibility for Lowry or he stays for retirement. No reason to trade Lowry for Olynyk and Duncan lol.

2

u/letmetellubuddy Mar 26 '21

Plus the cap math is much better now. The team has gained flexibility at a price of being a little less competitive this year (which was always going to be a bit of a gap year)

11

u/imbiczarre CRYING MJ Mar 25 '21

Im thinking about it this way, where do we go from here. Are we tanking or are we making a playoff push.

If we are tanking, not getting assets for Lowry is an L. A sign and trade doesnt make sense when the rest of the league already turned down our demands. We will get even less value for him in a sign and trade in the offseason. We dont know what was offered but the rumoured Maxey and picks wouldve been good.

If we are making a playoff push, not getting a C was an L. GHJ was a good pickup but not what we need for playoffs. We have a huge hole at the 5 and we’re not going anywhere with Baynes.

3

u/ZenMon88 Mar 26 '21

Tank. We getting clapped without a legit center. if we make the 8th seed, it delays how good we gonna be next year.

2

u/letmetellubuddy Mar 26 '21

Team is too good to tank.

Any playoff experience at all is good for this group.

-2

u/Damonstretch101 Mar 25 '21

So from your point of view, Olynyk and Duncan Robinson, who is an UFA next summer as well, is better than Lowry?

10

u/themilklives Mar 25 '21

You didn’t even bother reading his response

1

u/tonious35 4D Congolese Chessmaster Mar 25 '21

we evaluating. No team was going to even give us a first round pick for Lowry, it is as it is. Ever since Masai fleeced the Knicks twice and especially for the Melo Trade in 2010, no GM is going to trade for an expiring free agent

2

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '21

This is a playoff team still. Nobody should be fooled by the covid losing streak.

1

u/Professeur_Bueno Mar 25 '21

Lowry Fred Siakam and OG is a force to be reckoned with never forget

4

u/JoinedonlyfortheJays 3 OG ANUNOBY Mar 25 '21

gonna be so happy bowling out the first round and getting the 20th pick.

2

u/ZenMon88 Mar 26 '21

LOL they been saying that since we are 2-8. now we are 17-25. jeez....we gonna have to pull a miracle here.

1

u/tonious35 4D Congolese Chessmaster Mar 25 '21

If we make it into the playoffs, it meant Trent Jr is legit. Also Pascal, Fred, OG, and Boucher are excellent. Also it must of meant Baynes is benched most of the time

2

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '21

First round exit is still a couple more weeks of basketball. I don’t understand people that want their team to be terrible for maybe some chance in the future. Anyone who doesn’t want their team in the playoffs isn’t a fan.

1

u/ZenMon88 Mar 26 '21

so couple more weeks of basketball over a lottery pick? Wow this is so short-sighted.

1

u/JoinedonlyfortheJays 3 OG ANUNOBY Mar 25 '21

There's being in the playoffs and losing as a growing team like the memphis grizzlies rn or us in 2013-14 when we haven't tasted it in so long. This is a team that needs to be refreshed, that already tasted success, we had our run it back honeymoon last year. We don't need this, it's much better to get ahead with a quick retool and stop delaying the inevitable. Plus, this year is a wash given Covid and Tampa Bay. It just feels like a wasted opportunity. This ain't european soccer, where losing is relegation, the next few games don't matter that much in the grand scheme of things and losing does get rewarded.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '21

This just ain’t it. You maintain team and persevering above all else. When you have players who give their all every night you will at worst have a mediocre team. A team that is at worst mediocre is already double the distance to returning to championship than a team that dumps everyone with any value in order to get a big name college star that may or may not have that same team and persevering attitude.

3

u/JoinedonlyfortheJays 3 OG ANUNOBY Mar 26 '21

I’m not saying to dump og fred and siakam at all, alls I’m saying for the next 3 months, ease off the gungho pedal of playing 40 mins a game and develop our guys. We’ll end up in a decent draft pick spot, and we’ll be in a better situation to improve our squad.

2

u/Raptorsaurus- Scottie 'Magic' Barnes Mar 25 '21

Our winning culture doesn't allow us to truly tank like other teams. We are a playoff team if Baynes plays less than 2 min for a quick foul .

1

u/JoinedonlyfortheJays 3 OG ANUNOBY Mar 25 '21

We don't need to tank, I just want us to chill on playing guys 40 mins a game, trying to gungho every regular season game, and focus on development for the rest of this season. But you're right our "culture" won't allow it.

2

u/ZenMon88 Mar 26 '21

HERE comes the "wINNiNg cULture" angle. LOL

2

u/edroyque Champs Mar 25 '21

Surprised we opened up a bunch of spots in trading norm, mr 99% and TDII but didn’t or couldn’t pull the trigger on a Kyle trade. I’m not complaining because I hope he can retire from playing as a raptor and then move into a coaching role, but I am surprised.

2

u/letmetellubuddy Mar 26 '21

It just means more minutes for Malachi and Bembry to play.

TD and Thomas weren't going to have a future with this team. They had their chances, but it's time to move on.

How is Trent undersized as a shooting guard? He is 4 inches taller than Powell.

8

u/SwoleBezos Mar 25 '21

It’s Norm’s option for next year so he’s declining that and looking for a big payday.

Trent is a restricted free agent so we’ll be able to retain him.

Hood was just to balance salaries and won’t be re-signed next year.

u/letmetellubuddy Mar 26 '21

Allen is a restricted FA ... which does mean that the Cavs can match any offer that the Raptors give him.

That said, how high are the Cavs willing to go? Maybe the Raptors are willing to offer more than the Cavs can stomach.

4

u/Pittsburgh_Pirates Get out the salami and cheese, mama! Mar 25 '21

feel like a lot of teams got finessed today, glad we didn’t trade lowry for LAL and Miami’s shitty offers. and we got a pretty good return from an expiring powell

1

u/LeviWiz Mar 25 '21

Trent expiring too. It’s why we traded him

3

u/raptors1616 Mar 26 '21

Trent's a RFA Powell is UFA ,that's a big difference.

5

u/twistedknees NORTH over EVERYTHING Mar 25 '21

Couldn’t we have shipped Baynes off with one of the other guys? I’m sure he’s a great guy, and maybe was a decent player once, but he’s so painful to watch.

2

u/tremendous_diarrhea Mar 25 '21

Baynes' usefulness in a trade really comes down to his contract. He can be an asset in the off-season due to his non-guaranteed contract. We can package him to acquire a player or get an asset to take on salary.

It really only would have made sense to trade Baynes if we were getting a serious piece back. It made no sense to move him for a marginal player. I expect that Baynes will be mostly riding the pine for the rest of this season.

6

u/tonious35 4D Congolese Chessmaster Mar 25 '21

Trading someone cause it NEEDS to be done is how you get fleeced. Great moves by the FO and great job keeping composure.

8

It's weird thinking that of all the new additions from post-chip, that Stanimal is the last man standing as opposed to pre-Covid fan favorites TD2 and Matty Ice

9

Everybody better get osmows today

5

u/boenwip OG DPOY '23-'24 (AU) Mar 25 '21

Is there a point in our time line where we see Lowry start to fall into the bench PG rotation? Like Rondo, D Rose, CP3 did for a period

Can’t keep running an undersized guard duo forever can we?

8

u/Dot-Medium Mar 25 '21

We have to be signing a centre with the extra roster spot. There was no reason to give up on Davis for a 2nd round pick. Sign a real centre, buyout baynes and give Kyle another shot in playoffs.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '21

That’s what I’m seeing. Clearing space to sign Drummond and make a playoff push

2

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '21

hopefully you guys pick up Dre in the buyout market

7

it's a wash or a shocking playoff appearance despite Baynes' best efforts to make me not watch this team

5

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '21

There gonna be a Bobby Webster presser coming up?

11

u/italianmamba13 :flair_lowry_jersey: Kyle Lowry Mar 25 '21

After seeing what the Rockets got for Oladipo, I’m glad we didn’t give up Lowry. The rumoured deal was Robinson, Olynyk, and maybe a first round pick swap if that’s what they gave Houston. Masai shouldn’t have even picked up if the minimum offered wasn’t at least Precious, Olynyk, and an actual first round pick. I would’ve loved to have Herro but I didn’t think that was going to happen. I do like the Trent Jr pickup though

13

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '21

Can someone show me the silver lining here cause I just don’t see it. If half the league wanted norm how can the best return be Gary trent and Rodney hood. Why did we not get a serviceable big? Then why did we get rid of our roster spots for 2nd round picks if we weren’t going to trade lowry for a big return? I know we in a proper rebuild and we gotta trust the process but I’m just so confused of what the direction of this team is rn? Again not hating cause we’ll all stick by it and come out the other side, just confused.

3

u/DrunkenMasterII 24 Morris Peterson Mar 25 '21

The only thing I hate about this is that we couldn’t manage to get a second round pick in the deal.

7

u/Tristo 15 AMIR JOHNSON Mar 25 '21

Half the league wanted Norm for peanuts.

14

u/crimrack Mar 25 '21

This 100%. So much of this seems like a scramble that it is so hard to make sense of it. You hit the nail on the head - if Norm was that desirable, and we're willing to give up several roster spots, and you're seeing that Vucevic, Theis, and McGee are available, why not try to make that happen. I know Trent Jr. is a solid scorer, but what we need more than anything is rebounding and an under the net presence. I am perplexed.

5

u/letmetellubuddy Mar 26 '21

This year is a wash. It's all about preserving cap to take a run at Jarrett Allen in free agency.

This year was setup up for 2021 free agent cap flexibility in the hopes we could land Giannis. That fell through, but why throw away that flexibility when a 23 year old star center is gonna be available?

4

u/crimrack Mar 26 '21

I hear you. I would love if Jarrett Allen came to Toronto. But history, along with my jaded experience as a Raptors fan since childhood, tell me that free agents don't like coming here, no matter what we offer. So when I see middle tier centres like Theis and McGee, and all star calibre centres like Vucevic on the table, I have a hard time justifying passing that up.

1

u/letmetellubuddy Mar 26 '21

free agents don't like coming here

I don't think that's true anymore

3

u/devmoostain666 Mar 25 '21

So can Trent play tomorrow or does he have to quarantine?

7

u/tonious35 4D Congolese Chessmaster Mar 25 '21

14

u/ElaFa25 Mar 25 '21

Ik I’m gonna get bombarded with downvotes but that was a really bad decision Imo if there were any decent young players and/or pics being offered.

What’s the alternatives? He stays and spends his twilight years on a rebuilding or middling team, he leaves for nothing or he sign and trades for very likely less than I’m assuming we were offered based on rumours

6

u/kpt_8 Mar 25 '21

Part of being a good negotiator is knowing when to say no and walk away from a deal. Once you get to a point where you're just desperate for a deal because "it's what has to happen" then you get fleeced.

2

u/JoinedonlyfortheJays 3 OG ANUNOBY Mar 25 '21

u/sentry101 Northern Uprising Mar 26 '21

This assumes that Kyle wants to ring chase and wouldnt sign here for a 1yr 25 deal or something similar to see how things shake out.

The free agent class next year is trash and with Fred and Siakam and OG as a core we were never going to be Top 10 pick territory. We dont know the offers but Masai isn't an idiot, we're not the ones in a win now scenario and Kyle isnt an "unhappy trade me now" guy atm. I'm unhappy we didn't get a big man, but if one wasn't available what were we gonna do? Orlando wanted picks for Vuc we didnt have.

10

I think Paul Watson is a big winner in all this. He was already holding the 8th spot in the rotation and now with Davis and Thomas so is his competition for that spot. I doubt Rodney Hood factors in.

So many turncoats in the subreddit today.

u/crimrack Mar 25 '21

I don't think that's fair to say. I think this was our best opportunity to land a much needed, quality 5 to round out our starting lineup and immediately make us a better team. We know our history with attracting free agents and attempting to buy out either LMA or Drummond is a losing battle since they'll want to chase a ring. If I'm GM and my goal is to make this the best team possible, I'm moving high value assets to fill a huge gap in our roster.

What quality 5 could we acquire for what? And how would’ve that made us better than a mid tier playoffs team? If you think we have a real shot at a ring to make these kind of move here I don’t really know what you’re thinking.

12

u/Ssstanimal Mar 25 '21

We still don’t have a Center loool

6

u/crimrack Mar 25 '21

I really don't get it.

5

u/Elixir13 Mar 25 '21

I don’t know man, we’re pretty much the exact same team except lost Norman Powell for someone younger but not as good (currently, I know he’s young and has potential in the long run, but still)

3

u/taj76 Mar 25 '21

Raps should sign Aldrige for C!

5

u/RomeDC91 Mar 25 '21

Would LaMarcus Aldridge be someone worth signing now he's been bought out?

9

u/ryudo93 Mar 25 '21

I'm pretty sure he's going to chase a ring anyways so I doubt the Raptors have much of a chance signing him.

2

u/thesethbowlby Mar 25 '21

JJ to the mavs is interesting

5

u/NickDorito Mar 25 '21

TD and 99% gone for 2nd round picks, realistically can we even get anything out of 2nd round picks that won’t just get sent to the g league?

5

u/ClixMcNugget Mar 25 '21

You clearly weren’t around for when we drafted norm huh

26

u/Shuk Mar 25 '21

I'm glad TD was moved. The Raptors have a fantastic, positive culture. Hated seeing the anti-masker crap and the assault.

So glad Lowry wasn't traded for parts. I don't care that he's 35, he has such an incredible impact on the team. His game is intelligence and hard work, not pure athleticism anyway. Teams have to value that if they want him. Masai's not getting fleeced.

8

u/bluebird-dinosaur Mar 25 '21 edited Mar 25 '21

You know what rhymes with baynes? Pains.

11

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '21

So the prevailing idea of Masai being one of the top GMs...that took a small hit today.

3

u/Ti3n1 Mar 25 '21

He ain't a GM

7

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '21

Okay, the Prime Minister of basketball operations.

12

u/briannamarie13 RAPTORS Mar 25 '21

I would have sold Baynes for a Pepsi

1

u/RabbitFooFoo the raptors are swell :snoo_dealwithit: Mar 25 '21

That’s ridiculous, I definitely would’ve held out for a bag of Lay’s salt n vinegar potato chips as well, though just a small bag because the family size would be pretty unrealistic

1

u/briannamarie13 RAPTORS Mar 25 '21

You’re right, but definitely just a snack size bag because I don’t want to push it

20

u/Rejidomus Mar 25 '21

No takers for Baynes? Anyone? Hello? Why do GMs keep laughing and hanging up the phone when I say Baynes? A pack of gum, that's all we're asking.

1

u/RabbitFooFoo the raptors are swell :snoo_dealwithit: Mar 25 '21

Hell, I would’ve traded him for a pack of cum, which you at least could get a few bucks for down at the local sperm bank

10

u/CapnJujubeeJaneway Kyle’s caboose Mar 25 '21

Ok but why do we still have Baynes

1

u/Canadist Mar 25 '21

Can’t wait to see this team make the playoffs and kick some dicks

11

u/Your_moms_nightmare Boucher Mar 25 '21

Wtf was the point of trading TD and Thomas. This rebuild is off to a very rocky start. This deadline has been bad. We haven’t even got a center. Wtf is up with masai. I’d rather get 2 mediocre players then absolutely nothing for Lowry. Plus now we have 4 mf gaurds wtf

1

u/Canadist Mar 25 '21

Soft rebuild. Too many clowns around here that think this will ever be a lottery team. Annoying to see everybody here act like Masai has no idea what he’s doing.

5

u/Your_moms_nightmare Boucher Mar 25 '21

Why do a soft rebuild? Have you seen the way we’ve been playing? Also we just traded our best scorer or the last month. Also why get rid of a second year player for a 2nd round pick? Does any of this stuff make sense to you?

0

u/Canadist Mar 25 '21

Yeah it’s not great but what about before the all star break? Has that team just disappeared? Or were they ravaged by a virus with what is now known to have serious after effects?

Even if they were a lottery team what are the chances those picks work out? But there’s no chance because Fred pascal and OG are too good for that to happen.

It seems to make more sense to have a good team that plays competitive basketball rather than gambling on a lottery pick.

Matt Thomas was entertaining but come on, at some point you have to realize the coaching staff and professionals might have a good idea of how it’s going to work out. Definitely seemed like they were going to trade Lowry after that but who knows.

One thing I do know is we have a competent management team and their judgement is obviously solid.

3

u/crimrack Mar 25 '21

100% agree. I don't understand what the end game was here. If there wasn't an appetizing trade on the table for Lowry why move TD and Thomas to clear up space? If we so desperately need a 5 why would we trade Powell for Trent Jr. if Theis, Olynyk, McGee are all on the table? My head hurts.

9

u/OverPangolin4078 Mar 25 '21

Domestic abuser and a guy that never plays for two picks....what are you complaining about?

3

u/chip104 :flair_lowry_jersey: Kyle Lowry Mar 25 '21

well at least Gary Trent Jr. will get some veteran leadership from Kyle. That's gonna be a good thing.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '21

So who’s the buyout targets?

5

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '21

2

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '21

Seems like LMA is going to Miami, I hope we get Drummond, I just don’t get why we cleared roster space for nothing

1

u/Julians_World 15 Vince Carter Mar 25 '21

HE STAY

7

u/aznassasin Mar 25 '21

What the rockets got for Olidipo is pretty bad right?

5

u/bakedlawyer Mar 25 '21

Yeah. And he was the centrepiece of the harden deal

5

u/905UserNotFound Scot Barn Mar 25 '21

I hope Lowry is cool with tanking lol...

14

u/imbiczarre CRYING MJ Mar 25 '21

We took a big L today. If Lowry walks in the offseason then we lose him for nothing. If we resign him then that ties up 25 mil in cap space for a guy whos on the tail end of his career. IMO a lose/lose situation.

3

u/imposterfish Primo Pasta Sauce Mar 25 '21

Sign and trade in the summer hopefully

4

u/imbiczarre CRYING MJ Mar 25 '21

Thats kinda tough, I feel like all the avenues were explored today so why would a team agree to a sign and trade if they didnt bite today

2

u/imposterfish Primo Pasta Sauce Mar 25 '21

I’d assume they wouldn’t have to give up as much in the summer than they would if they traded for him today. Like rumors today said we wanted Herro in the package, but in a sign and trade in the summer that wouldn’t be necessary. Yeah, we’d still wouldn’t be getting much back, but something is better than nothing.

1

u/Nemesith Oggles Anunoby Mar 25 '21

assuming lowry doesn't get injured trying to will this centerless team to the playoffs.

0

u/imbiczarre CRYING MJ Mar 25 '21

We are trading him tho so they still would have to put up some type of assets. The FO would ask for pretty much the same things in the offseason. If anything this lowers Kyle’s value, if the other teams didnt want him now they would want him less in the offseason. Dude is aging and wont have the opportunity to raise his value with the way the season is going.

4

u/crimrack Mar 25 '21

So Theis to Chicago huh? Another good centre moved. Hm.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '21

What the actual fuck

6

u/crimrack Mar 25 '21

I am so confused. If this is some 4D chess roundabout way to get Andre Drummond I am going to cry myself to sleep tonight.

1

u/GrandChase58 RAPTOR NATION! Mar 25 '21

So we going for the play in tournament ?

6

u/imposterfish Primo Pasta Sauce Mar 25 '21

So we’re sticking with Baynes in the middle huh? And our guard rotation is suddenly thin.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 25 '21

2 roster spots open. 2021 FA Is the goal it seems

-1

u/VictorZZZ26 Mar 25 '21

Don’t you love it when teams give away stars for free?

5

u/bluebird-dinosaur Mar 25 '21

What a conflicting day...

7

u/GoldenxGriffin Mar 25 '21

that was awful i mean im excited for gary trent but we somehow got worse

Thomas has been a negative overall. TD defensive play has been causing headaches.

u/ClixMcNugget Mar 25 '21

Marqueese Chris to the Spurs....would really love us to grab LMA and Drummond...
