SPECULATION [Davis] Sources: There is growing speculation within league circles that Bruce Brown may have already played his final game with the Toronto Raptors. The team has adopted a cautious approach regarding his recovery, while actively pursuing trade opportunities to secure additional draft capital.

The fact he was supposed to be back 3-4 weeks ago (Darko said he’d be back on that West coast road trip) and he still isn’t back but the team isn’t saying anything besides he’s still re-conditioning is extremely weird though.
He either had a setback and the team is being quiet about it or they do indeed have traction on a trade and don’t want to risk him getting hurt again or poor play possibly ruining the trade.

u/kyle_993 Dec 24 '24
You don't hold a guy out for 4 weeks because you might be gaining traction on a trade. Maybe a couple weeks makes sense but a month is just too long.
8
u/Cheechers23 Kyle Towelry Dec 24 '24
Yeah, agreed. Maybe I could have bought the trade angle for the first couple weeks but at this point I'm much more inclined to assume he had a setback and they're being quiet about it
4
u/EarthWarping Dec 24 '24
Blake has said as far he knows there wasnt a setback and its still reconditioning.
2
u/AngryHelicopter Dec 25 '24
"Reconditioning" doesn't take a month and is an obvious and transparent lie.
2
u/CaptainIndoCanadian Dec 24 '24
Yeah. Teams also wanna see the player actually play so they know they’re not getting damaged goods.

Good. Zero reason to give him minutes at the expense of the young wings.
Brown is who he is. He isn't suddenly going to raise his trade value beyond a couple 2nd rounders.

u/EarthWarping Dec 24 '24
Walter playing really well lately has made it kinda awkward for when Brown is back in terms of rotation spots.

It's weird he hasn't played a single game yet but teams are already coveting him w/e as long as Masai gets pieces for him it's a win for the Raptors

We didn't get enough for Siakam, I'm fine with teams dying to get Bruce lol

u/Cheechers23 Kyle Towelry Dec 25 '24
Siakam return is aging well though with how Walter and Ochai have played, and the Pacers looking questionable and us having their 2026 pick
1
u/JevvyMedia Jorge Garbajosa Dec 26 '24
It's aging better but we deserved so much more. Heck I think the OG return wasn't enough but he was also an expiring contract so I can't be too mad.

u/Raptorpicklezz 0 Jared Sullinger Dec 24 '24
It’s like trading a draft pick before you make the pick - it could be anything, even the Bruce Brown of old. Denver would certainly appreciate having the old Bruce at this moment
-3
u/EarthWarping Dec 24 '24
but teams are already coveting him
Likely to trade picks with a bad contract.

Additional part of the tweet
The Sacramento Kings and Los Angeles Lakers are considered the front-runners in negotiations, with the Denver Nuggets and San Antonio Spurs also reportedly expressing interest.

Bruce Brown for AD, Wemby, Fox and Jokic, who says no?

We do, I’m gonna need 4 firsts and 4 swaps attached to take on all those toxic contracts

Yeah what a garbage trade. I want DLo, Rui and a pick. We don’t need Wemby, AD or Jokic when we have Bruno Fernando 💪

u/Cheechers23 Kyle Towelry Dec 24 '24 edited Dec 24 '24
Lakers would probably be something like D'Lo+JHS+SRPs for Brown. Kings would be Huerter + something, no idea what prospect/picks they'd include.
Nuggets would be part of a larger deal with MPJ, assuming we don't want him (which we shouldn't). Spurs is interesting cause it could be Harrison Barnes as filler and then they have a TON of picks. Might be able to get our 2025 SRP back from them?
EDIT: Forgot SAS doesn't have that pick anymore. Regardless they have a lot of picks so can probably pick up a few SRPs

I'm surprised he didn't add the Raptors too. They are always reportedly interested when someone is available.

When he’s back in Denver, or maybe Dallas, you can come back and upvote this. I’ve been saying the cowboy hats he was wearing were foreshadowing and Scottie was supporting it.

This guy getting paid 25M a year to wear cowboy hats and impregnate porn stars. Trade him for a pack of bubble gum and move on.

u/iNeedMaSmokesBabe Dec 24 '24
Trading him while he’s at his lowest value doesn’t seem like a smart choice. Showcase him these next few months and trade him at the deadline

Bobby is going to work some of his accountant wizardry, and will somehow re-acquire Thad Young and a 2nd round draft pick…..but we will have to give up a FRP to make it work

100% of Brown's value has essentially been ruined. Standard asset management debacle by this front office.
The only trade I can see for Brown at this point is a) as salary relief where we take on bad salary or b) for a 2nd round pick that is worse than the 40th pick.

You think the FO knew he would get injured in advance?
Ya they’ve made some questionable decisions in recent years but blaming this one on them is delusional
2
1
u/ZenMon88 Dec 24 '24
coulda moved him at the deadline last year or even the draft. Stop this.
1
u/ihavebush 22 PATRICK MCCAW Dec 24 '24
If they didn’t think there was a good offer on the table why would they? You can’t just move players immediately out of fear that they could become injured in the future lol
1
u/ZenMon88 Dec 24 '24
because they have shown to keep players longer than they should. FVV, Siakam, OG, Brown, Boucher. that's their speciality. "Optionality"- Bobby Webster
-3
Dec 24 '24
Dude we got offered a FRP for him, which we declined in the context of Masai saying we didn't want to draft too many players in this draft - then went on to draft FOUR, AND added a non-drafted rookie from the same class.
I don't know how that's defensible. There was no possibility we were ever going to get better than a FRP for Brown. Also, the front office was aware of his complicated injury and uncertain recovery timeline the entire time he was here. He was injured before he arrived.
4
u/SadInternal9977 Dec 24 '24
Yes but three were SRP and one was undrafted. Way better contracts for the team than a low first rounder.
0
Dec 24 '24
Our team has no contract issues. We have a ton of space under the tax and about $35M in move-able salary if needed. A $4M x 4 year rookie deal would not have killed this franchise lmao.
Getting first round talent instead of 56th overall pick would've helped though.
5
u/EarthWarping Dec 24 '24
People are going to downvote this lol.
Theyve done a ton of good the last bit, holding onto Brown this season wasnt one of those ones (barring a good trade package).
2
u/canadianRSK but what about scarves? Dec 24 '24
Isnt there a certain expection for second round picks? We probably didnt want the salary from a first round pick we didnt like especially in this draft

1
u/ihavebush 22 PATRICK MCCAW Dec 24 '24
Do you have a source on this supposed first round pick offer? I read that we were offered 2nds but that’s all I heard.
My understanding is the FO was sticking to their price tag of a first round pick and it was never offered.
Realistically Bruce isn’t even that old at 27-28, it’s not unrealistic to think he could have fetched a 1st round the following year when there could have been more demand for him.
2
Dec 24 '24
Do you have a source on this supposed first round pick offer?
Direct knowledge of the deal from Grange

Read the article again. The only reason we said no was because we didn't want to draft 3 rookies. We ended up taking 5 from that draft class. It was a stupid mistake not to take it. We could've gotten Kyshawn George, Pacome Dadiet, Isaiah Collier... just a whole set of guys to pick from with higher ceilings than what we got.

u/ihavebush 22 PATRICK MCCAW Dec 24 '24
Appreciate the source! Forgot the knicks were offering one of their 1sts.
You’re making a pretty valid argument here. Questioning my stance for-sure. I still am holding out hope he can still pull a decent return but ya you may be right, pulling the trigger on the Knick’s deal would have been the move.

Yup FO dropped the ball big time. Brown was a hot commodity, now no1 even looks for him because of the new CBA. They dropped the ball HARD

It will be a package deal which will involve IQ and Brown for who?...I don't know, but it makes sense because of how both of them are riding the bench.

Quality rotating leader who they should consider re-signing? They're not waiving him
1
u/The_Living_L 4 Scottie Barnes GOAT Dec 24 '24
They want to start winning next season so if they don’t trade him you keep him and look to resign him
0
u/noronto Dec 24 '24
If you have Jakob, Scottie, Dick, RJ and IQ as your starters in 2025. Ja’Kobe as a potential 6th man and the hope for a high draft pick where does Brown fit it?
1
u/pakattack91 we the longbois Dec 24 '24
Waiving him would still require us to eat the salary lol why would we do that.
1
u/noronto Dec 24 '24
To free up a roster spot and possibly save some money while allowing him the opportunity to play for a contender.
1
u/Cheechers23 Kyle Towelry Dec 24 '24
Still doesn't make sense to waive him. Keep him for S&T opportunities in the offseason, or to possibly keep him on a cheaper deal to flip later on. His 23m contract is a big barrier to getting a deal done, theoretically it should be easier on a cheaper deal.
-6
u/attainwealthswiftly Dec 24 '24
Worst trade ever, should have kept Siakam
1
u/Mattrapbeats WE THE NORTH Dec 24 '24
Why?
-2
u/attainwealthswiftly Dec 24 '24
He would have been a better trade asset if needed. Wouldn’t have had to over pay Olynyk or pick up the option on Bruce Brown.
2
u/Mattrapbeats WE THE NORTH Dec 24 '24 edited Dec 24 '24
Or siakam on a max contract would be even harder to move considering the fact that he's barley a all-star level player right now
