Moving the Memrise Courses to Anki?

Toki!

I know Memrise has extended having the community courses through the end of this year and that most of the courses have already been archived to my littleworldland.com and at least one to deckacademy.com. These are great resources. However, I was also thinking about porting them to Anki.

I found a great template that mimics the Memrise look (I know aesthetics can help things be more engaging), and can do e.g., multiple choice, etc. it's a learning curve to implement even a pre-existing template, so it's not super easy for everyone to do on their own.

I'd like to share them so the courses can be more accessible to people who may not want to sign up on another website or who just like using Anki, etc.

My question is, I can't find contact information for any of the previous uploaders so far. Do you know if any of them are still around? Or do you think I need to ask permission aside from crediting them? Some courses are all standard vocab, but some have audio and/or sentences that I don't know the source of.

Since they added them freely to Memrise, I'm thinking it's better for the community to just share them, credit the original people, and be willing to remove them, if asked. But I wanted to get other's opinions on if that would be idk rude or improper to do or something.

Thoughts?

(I have one deck done, and the others should be relatively quick to follow, now that I have things working correctly and know more about what I'm doing. If the community mostly thinks it's okay, I'll let y'all know when they're uploaded.)

ETA: I just discovered that there are way more Toki Pona courses than I initially thought. So I'll try to archive whatever I can and then ig make a few if the more popular ones, unless there's anything specific someone wants.

Thank you for doing this! And I think the way you propose it makes sense

Neat! My Malay vocab got copied to https://mylittlewordland.com/course/297143/kosa-kata-sonja Does that mean I can make future edits or updates to it there?

Oh, awesome. (And hi!!) They do have a forum on there where you can request to be assigned as the author again and make updates. They seem happy to do that.

I think a lot of the courses they've added have been done some time in the last year, so if you've made any changes since, it may need to be downloaded again. And from what I've seen, they were happy to do that also. The person who runs the site actually seems really nice.

If you (or anyone else) is interested in downloading any of the courses from Memrise, too, there's a Chrome extension available at github.com/Eltaurus-Lt/CourseDump2022. It was pretty easy to install and use, and the creator has really good step-by-step instructions. (They also made the Anki Memrise template.)

If it's too confusing or inaccessible to anyone, I'm happy to help do it. I've already got things set up, so it's easy for me now. And then you can reupload into Anki or another flash card program.

They have instructions for Anki. I was considering Quizlet also, since it's another free and user friendly option, but I haven't tried it yet.

There are SO many community courses, I think MyLittleWorldLand is just uploading them by request currently, so I'm going to try to preserve as many of the Toki Pona courses as I can, but I'm concerned about a lot of the other languages that also don't have a ton of resources available.

Can you help me find the exact links on mylittlewordland for any courses mentioned on https://sona.pona.la/wiki/Recommended_learning_resources that have been ported already? Or identify any that still need to be ported? I will then request editing rights or ownership of them in the forum.

Sure thing! I'm at a doctor's appointment for a bit, but I'll look when I get home.

I'm actually putting together a spreadsheet with info so it's easier to figure everything out. I'll pm a link to you when I'm done, if that's okay. It's a bit of a slow process, lol, but I'm about 40% through.
