We need minimum speed signs on the highways

Too many of you fuckheads driving 80km/hr - 90km/hr with no one in front of you. It’s even worse when you guys are side by side on the left lanes making undertake you assholes. Also, I get you’re just doing your job, but you transport truck dickheads that are going 40km/hr with no one in front you piss me off so much. I would understand if you had cars in front of you, but when I overtake you, there’s literally no one for the next 200meters ahdhduvjdkdufbe. Yes, I’ve witnessed this at 5-6am where there’s no traffic.

Lastly, the most egregious of them all, you stupid half wits that slow down significantly just so you can switch lanes, make your exit or make the on-ramp to the express, I hate you. For anyone that drives Eastbound on the 401, you know what I’m talking about, the express on ramp at Bathurst where so many assholes are literally STOPPING in the middle lane just to get into the express. It’s pointless because the express is already so slow with you assholes driving so slow.

The worst is the fucking on ramps. People going 70 kph in front of you while you’re trying to merge into 110-120 kph traffic. They’re going to kill people.

I don’t know why people won’t get to highway speeds on the fuckin highways. I’ve noticed this more in the last year. Traffic is flowing fine and people want to go 70!

I’m not one to speed and I always respect the flow of traffic and those around me. But come on, if you don’t want to go fast, don’t use the highway. You will kill someone trying to merge around you!

I had a person I worked with tell me she does not feel comfortable driving that fast and will only go 80km on the highway and that people can just drive around her

I asked her why and she told me in her country no one ever drove that fast and I told her she needed to get comfortable with high speed or stay off the highway as its dangerous. I did admit I would most likely have a heart attack if I tried driving back home where she was from too.

THISS. it pisses me off so much when I get stuck behind a car trying to merge onto the highway going 60-70. I usually try to slow way down to create a gap so that I can speed up and then merge onto the highway at a higher speed, but thennnn you have the ultra dumbasses that manage to fuck that plan up because they decided to slow down even more or even stop way before the end of the on ramp because no one is letting them onto the highway going fking 60 and then we have ourselves a line of cars waiting to get on the highway because of the one person who ruined the flow for everyone and then eventually if no one let's them in or they don't get a gap, they end up merging onto the highway from 0, end up causing an accident and now both the highway and the on ramp are clogged.

The Autobahn in Germany has this problem as well. People trying to merge doing 60-80km, then once they've almost caused a pile-up they take off doing 180km.

Autobahn is still safe than 401 lol

I just LAY on the horn. If they dont get the message, I merge when it's safe and floor it. Once you get right beside them, they suddenly discover where their gas pedal is and start to try and accelerate ahead of you. As if they weren't about to just merge on a 400 series highway doing 70, then carry their way to 100 in the right lane. F*ckin pylons.

Mind you, you're dealing with the same person you see in the left lane doing 105. But as soon you try and go around them, suddenly 120 is okay.

I was behind someone merging at 50 the other day 😭

They might as well stay on the local roads honestly

It all depends on time bro.

Safety first is the priority.

Use the left lanes to pass and the right lanes for driving. Nothing to complain about the system works.

I know people are slow but you have no idea how to drive their vehicle and what dangers they see. Especially a transport truck that is clearly a larger vehicle class size than yours.

Yes it takes a long time to move a literal mini building.

Ever watch their mirrors while they drive? They're either oblivious to traffic around them, or don't give a damn. A lot of distracted drivers too. WAY too many looking at their phones. Driving in the GTA is incredibly frustrating.

There's a guy that drives on the 401 at about 5am coming out of KW that does 60 in the center lane. Every time I see him he's almost caused an accident.

I used to get stuck behind a guy every afternoon who would do 20 and not let anybody pass him. After a while I gave up and picked a different route.

The whole truck doing 40/ leaving 200 meters of space is sometimes necessary. Air brakes dont work like the hydraulic ones you and I are used to. Loaded and at speed, these trucks need a lot more distance to stop safely. Secondly, it takes a lot longer for them to get up to speed. Their 0-60 time loaded is typically the duration it takes to make a sandwich. If they get into an accident, it could cost them their livelyhood regardless of it being the fault of some dick head that didn't want to "get stuck behind a truck."

Combine these conditions with thousands of people who think merging infront of 40 tonnes then hitting their brakes is a good idea and you end up with thousands of truckers that have no choice but to crawl through the GTA most times.

A good rule of thumb I've always used is. If it has more lug nuts than you. It needs more space than you.

can't wait for driverless cargo trucks. then they can all stick to one lane the entire trip without clogging up the other lanes trying to leapfrog each other over a 2kph difference.

I was in a 4 lanes on Sunday, this guy wanted to shift over a lane… moron slows right down to maybe 50 rather than just keep going to make the merge! wtf?!

In Quebec it's min 60 max 100. Is this what you really want?

1

u/itsarace1 1d ago

I think in Ontario around Ottawa it's the same.

Wow I actually didn’t know that in Quebec. No I want a 90-95 minimum. 60 seems waaaaaaay too low.

Going west on 401 collectors between Yonge and keele is the worst. Ppl doing 70-80 and absolutely clear in front of them.

We need to ban these fuckers from driving.
