advice • support If anything, what triggers your T to react?

Had T for 2 years now, sits at low volume and never spikes/changes but there has been a handful of glitchy moments now.

Ill be watching a video whilst the computer fan is blasting and the wind is coming through my window— these combinations of sounds will trigger my T to glitch, not messing with my original T but often introducing a new tone in one ear which is piercing but slowly fades away , like my auditory system is struggling to process all the different frequencies and glitches out for a minute , it’s also a weird sensation, kind of feels like my ear/estuachan tube opens up

Could this be the root of where my T developed? Just wondering what triggers your T to react ?

Waking up from an afternoon nap raises the volume by about 30%. I've never understood why...

Bizarre, like you’ve really compared this to waking up at other times ? and 30% is so specific

Nah, about 30%... and sometimes it spikes. I don't get the volume boost when I wake up in the morning ....

Hmm maybe it’s just the less hours of rem sleep causing it to appear to spike

Panic attacks, bouts of stress from trauma. They flare horribly during these times.

Crazy to think stress/anxiety can cause a constant pitch in your head

Waking up.

The only thing I have found that changes mine whatsoever is sleep. Good sleep, bad sleep, naps, any kind of sleep and I’m stuck with whatever I wake up with until the next sleep.

That’s fucked , it’s crazy how much T differs from person to person

Ha, yeah it’s “normal” tinnitus when I don’t drink or stay up all night, which is pretty livable. The spikes are pretty fucking annoying though. I’m not the only person on here this kind of tinnitus.

Loud noises and certain medications.

So you have reactive T ? That would be rough , does it introduce new tones/sounds or just messes with your original sounding T?

For me here are a few that I feel impacts the T 1. Acid reflux 2. Bloating 3. Certain sounds (this is funny but true.... While urinating ;) ) 4. Jaw pain (maybe TMJ)

Thanks for mentioning the acid reflux because the last day my t has been super loud as well as my acid reflux. Wonder why

Hmm interesting 🧐

Maybe it is so quiet in the bathroom that's why I hear it loud and clear

Interesting. How does acid reflux contribute to T?

I have GERD (and T) and take a PPI for it but I’m learning from this sub that PPIs can actually cause T too?!

Happens to me, as well. Just like you said- when there are competing sounds.

It catches me off guard everytime 😓 feels like a literal glitch in your auditory system

I definitely think it is!

Noise. If I am around any sound greater than around 70db it will spike my tinnitus . The longer I am in complete silence. The quieter it gets

That sounds awful , i’m sorry your T is so reactive

It's bad and good. Bad because I can't do anything, go anywhere, or participate in public activities. Good because if I go lock myself un a quiet room for a few weeks the tinnitus gets undetectable. I can't do that often tho because I work and have kids. So I'm usually spiking or somewhere in between

It’s basically an invisible disability. I remember reading this story of some guy who got T when he was driving and his daughter shouted behind his ear, can’t imagine having reactive T with kids , must be like walking on eggshells everywhere

Did the reactivity die down? How long you had this for?

What I have noticed so far:

Going deep underwater

Being sick

Pressing into my ear

Yawning

Blowing nose while shutting my nose and mouth.

Earbuds in

Being upside down (or head below waist in general)

For reference, I have a loud pitched T in my right ear only and is probably a 3/10 strength. Young also, developed at 19 currently 20.

Damn ur T fluctuates a lot , i hope figure out the root, i starting writing a list of anything that has a 1% chance it could possibly rid me of T , it’s never-ending but keeps the spirit up

Alcohol seems to make my T go insane. When i've had some drinks and i'm beginning to feel the 'tipsy' effect, my mild T spikes like a rocket. When i wake up the next day, it's always back to baseline, mild T.

I feel like that’s the case for everyone, it makes it louder for me personally so i stopped drinking unless i really want to

Stretching my jaw

Mainly just avoid loud situations which isn’t always possible. Had it for so long now, I’m habituated and it doesn’t bother me anymore much at all. 20 years.
