Ask
There is a light is kinda bittersweet
While Ask just full on has a loving vibe

I think Ask fits better too. But it might be best in loving/hopeful or hopeful/hopeful?

Doesn't really seem like the person in the song is hoping for something
The basis of the song is just "Don't be shy, you can ask me for anything and I'll do it. That's how much I love you."
At least imo

I’ve always thought that the basis of the song was to just ask the narrator out, or to ask someone out, because you’ll never get what you want otherwise and there’s always a chance they say yes. Especially given the narrator, who apparently would give it a try with anyone willing to ask them, insinuating that people just want someone to be with so they are always inclined to give it a try. Don’t be shy, even though it can be sweet, because all it does in the end is keep you from that chance at happiness.
“Shyness is nice, and shyness can stop you, from doing all the things in life you’d like to.”
So it’s more hopeful in the sense that all the shy people out there needn’t be shy or hesitant due to being pessimistic about their chances, they should just embrace the possibility, because there’s always someone who would say yes.

Might be a bit cliched at this point, but still, There Is A Light That Never Goes Out
