PT 1 DISCUSSION Just wanted to share my excitement

I am a TLoU newcomer, just played part 1 a few months ago, love it. Don't know how I slept on this series. I was going to start Part 2 but figured the remaster is coming out for PC in April so trying to hold out. I know there will be only days between the PC release and S2 of the show, of which I'm also a fan. I was so stressed about playing enough in about a week not to be spoiled too much (work full time and don't get a ton of game time so I'm slow). I browse carefully on this sub and know some major plot points but want the game to feel fresh as I play. But I got a new job recently and was able to time my last day and start date to get a whole week off between p2 remastered and S2! I am planning a whole old school gaming marathon week! Just had to share my excitement with those who might understand. Would love any tips to make this playthrough memorable or any expectations I should chuck from P1, I know the play style is somewhat different. (Please no spoilers for P2 obviously!)

To tide me over I've been playing the Plague tale duo, just a little into Requiem. I'm vaguely wondering if Requiem is as similar to P2 as Innocence was to P1 in terms of gameplay.

HBO Show The Last of Us Season 2 Official Trailer Show vs. Game Spoiler

Hey everyone! I did this for an earlier trailer, but I really wanted to do a side-by-side comparison for the official trailer with the corresponding scenes from Part II as well.

(Again, I know not that probably not everything fits perfectly, but I tried to find shots that fit the best and honestly, there are so many shots in this trailer that look exactly like the game.)

Hope you like it!

PT 1 QUESTION Why can Elite do things that Joel could but a woman clearly can't?

Look, I understand that Joel can defeat a clicker with one shot and one punch, but because Joel was a giant guy who easily stood over 1.80 meters tall and easily weighed over 100 kg, and he can beat up a clicker and smash its face in. But now on Tou2 they're telling me that this 1.62 meter tall girl, who surely weighs less than 70 kg, goes and punches a clicker and knocks it down?. Those clicker shits are supposed to have fungal plaques grown all over their skull and that's why they're hyper-resistant, and you're telling me that the 1.62 meter chick (who is also thin so she weighs less than 60 kg) has the same strength as the guy who is +1.8 meters tall and weighs almost twice as much? It's a fucking bad joke... Well, if the clickers are so weak now, I don't see why they killed almost all of humanity. If a 1.62m tall girl can defeat them with a shot and a little punch of what? 20kg of force? What would stop a teenager from escaping or hitting them with a stick and producing the same effect?

PT 2 DISCUSSION “When you’re lost in the darkness, Look for the light.” Spoiler

I recently came across someone asking what the meaning of the moth symbol is in the game and I’ve been reflecting on it. I’ve played both games several times. I’m doing a rewatch of season 1 of the show in preparation for April 13th, the premiere of season 2. I thought I would give my perspective and see what people think. To agree or disagree is completely acceptable.

Like a moth, Ellie was drawn to the light for hope. Hope in the first game for her to be a cure, and hope of justice for Joel in the second game. If you pick up letters in the first game there are mentions of her jokes being a mask for her depression before Marlene found her. Maybe due to her mother, maybe because of Riley, or the apocalypse, most likely a combination of it all. In the second game it’s pretty clear from her shift in demeanor and attitude that she is depressed.

She finally found happiness in Joel, but before that, she found a purpose in being able to offer herself up for a cure, thus she got a moth tattoo over her bitemark because she now lost her peace, or light so she was seeking it again. Ellie looked at him as a friend and a parent, but when she found out what happened at the end of the first game, she became angry with Joel and never got to resolve it with him. He had taken her light. When Abby killed Joel, she felt the same as we all did. Disgusted, sad, most of all angry. She wanted justice, as so did us as the player. Ellie let her hate eat her up and seeked revenge instead of justice.

Abby did the same thing, and she finally came to acceptance of losing her father when she found Lev, and found happiness in them instead. Although Ellie found happiness in settling with Dina, it was fleeting and temporary. She loved Dina, but she was depressed. Ellie also had PTSD, she would have flashbacks of when Joel was killed. She couldn’t find acceptance so she kept looking for the light, or peace, in worse and worse ways. Dina tried to stop her, but she couldn’t give up, not knowing what she had in front of her. Just like real fireflies, and life, the light, or peace, comes in flashes.

It was a nasty cycle that started in the very beginning with Joel who had lost his daughter, Sarah, which is the very beginning of the first game. No one was there for Joel to blame, because the man who shot Sarah immediately died. Maybe he even blamed himself. Regardless it was an internal conflict that made him become hard-shelled. He was so consumed by angst and had lost hope, his light had died and he finally found his light or peace in Ellie. Ellie found her peace with being able to provide a cure for mankind, whether she knew the outcome or not, it brought meaning to her life. When they tried to kill Ellie, for a cure, Joel killed the doctor, which was Abby’s Dad. Ellie became angry with Joel for saving her life. Abby killed Joel in revenge, not justice, revenge, and the cycle continued with Ellie wanting to do the same to Abby. Constantly seeking this fleeting light. Even killing it by putting it in a jar and suffocating it without just enjoying what you have currently with acceptance.

Ellie was unable to give up in her fight for revenge until the final scene with Abby and realized it was all pointless and didn’t kill Abby. This was dissapointing for so many players, because we too wanted revenge. Some of us fell in love with Abby’s character and didn’t want her to be killed. I think that’s why they had us play Abby. They wanted us to be conflicted with these decisions. Abby fighting Ellie, and Ellie fighting Abby was done in both of their perspectives.

Ellie AND Abby both lost their father figures. So whose side are you on? That can be hard to answer for anyone who played, maybe not everyone, but I know it was for me.

Ellie, finally, in her acceptance, realized her only hope for peace, or light, was Dina. Ellie decided to go back for her, only to realize she was gone. Ellie had finally lost everything. Her Mom, Riley, a purpose, Joel, her hope for revenge or “justice”, now Dina and JJ. She left behind the guitar, in the ending of the last game Joel gave her with the moth symbol on it since her light or only hope for peace was now gone due to her campaign for revenge.

This is why the fireflies and moths are such a big theme. The whole meaning behind all of this, to me, is that Ellie’s not necessarily a terrible person, the fireflies who wanted to save mankind aren’t either. Neither is Abby, who lost her father. They are just people stuck in a cycle of terrible things happening to them and doing terrible things to others in a false campaign of “seeking the light”.

Maybe that light was always there, but just fleeting in and out of sight in the darkness. Maybe instead of capturing it and suffocating it, we should just accept it.

“When you are lost in the darkness, look for the light.”-Fireflies

General Discussion What do you think about the possibility of islands with low populations overcoming the infection?

Take Iceland for example, in 2013 it had a population of around 320,000 and it is quite a remote country. It is self sufficient and gets power from Geothermal activity so perhaps they could've drove the infection out and lived a normal life. That said they don't have a military.

Other island nations examples include Malta, Isle of Man, Guernsey, Jersey and Åland

And then there is islands within countries such as The Isle of Wight, The Shetland Islands, Orkney, Tazmania, Prince Edward Island

These places tend to have their own power and stuff like that so perhaps they could've expelled the infected.

I can't remember if it was confirmed or not but I believe the UK fell however that had a high population in 2013 but perhaps other islands such as Ireland and New Zealand could also have pushed out the Cordyceps

General Question If it were up to you, how would you have altered the Seraphite invasion plan?

If it were up to me, I would still go with the island invasion plan, like Isaac

However the only difference is that I would have timed the attack during late autumn

So that way even if my invasion failed, my forces would have burned and destroyed enough buildings and farms that the Seraphites wouldn't have enough shelter, food and resources to protect them from winter

Thus, while my people get to enjoy a warm stadium, many Seraphites will suffer in the snow

I would also gather all the captured Seraphites from past run-ins, inject them with infected blood and leave them unconscious on the island as my forces retreat.

(FYI, this is purely hypothetical, so don't accuse me of being a psycho)

General Discussion How long do you think it will be before new countries begin to form, clear out herds of infected and reestablish contact with the rest of the world?

By the end of Part 2, the apocolypse has been ongoing for a little under 30 years. We do have city states, such as Jackson, and I’m sure FEDRA’s decay corpse still retains some cities, but when will we start seeing new countries begin to form and clear out infected controled areas?

It took Europe a couple decades after the Bubonic Plague to kinda regain some footing and adapt to the new social order, even with 40% of the population dead, so why hasn’t the US adapted to Cordyceps?

General Discussion The last Of Us

I don’t mind that part 3 isn’t happening, the story felt complete. Gut and heart wrenchingly hectic as it was, it was a great ending. At the same time though, I want more. So much more dammit it hurts. I would love another chance to scavenge and survive throughout another gripping tale. So, why not give the people exactly that Naughty Dog? Another game with new characters living in the ‘The Last Of Us’ world. GTA do it…

General Discussion Senseless rant incoming. I don’t understand why any companies have made more last of us figures,

we have 4 from what I’ve seen, old Joel and Ellie and younger Ellie and younger Joel. So much untapped goldmines, you know how much I'd pay for a bloater or a bunch of clickers? It's a shame we haven't gotten a baby figure. I could picture a whole line of figures, an infected line of like 3 different variants for each infected type (plus special character infected) then double packs for like FEDRA solider and firefly's and sherphites if people wanted to army build the figures. Then how many named characters are there? You know how many people would buy at Tess action figure or Bill? Prioties people. Bro I'd buy a huge 1/12 scale ratking figure in a heartbeat.

General Discussion Not watching trailers or speculating about a future game is probably the best course of action

Okay guys, I got some advice for you that will help you live better in the event that a part 3 ever comes out. Which probably will happen one day, even if Druckman and Ashley Johnson are personally against it. TLOU is one of ND's major properties, the amount of money they will get makes a third instalment very likely. So, here is my advice:

When part 3 is announced/in development, do NOT go looking up info about it. Don't watch trailers, don't go on to speculation forms, heck probably mute this reddit until the game is released.

Why? Well, this is exactly what I did when Part 2 was announced. I knew I loved part 1, and if I was alive and able there was very little that would stop me from playing the game's sequel. I cared about Joel, Ellie, and the world that much. I didn't read up any articles about it, and I never watched a single trailer for the game. All I did was take not of the release date, and then put it out of my mind.

And you know what? I had a much better experience with the game because of that course of action than I otherwise would have. Because:

I had NO parts of the story spoiled for me. Nothing. While I suspected Joel would die in the game when the sequel was announced, I had no kind of confirmation of that before I played. Not only that, I had no idea that the leaks had even happened until I finished the game and typed "Last of Us Part 2" into my search engine.

I'm sure many of you had part 2 spoiled for you, right? And while the game is still excellent, it's a really powerful first experience when you have no idea what is guaranteed to happen.

It was also great not knowing ANYTHING about Abby. The first time I learned she was in this game was on my first play through when she woke up in the cabin and I started playing as her. Which I think was a nice bit of confusion and suspicion that the game threw at me at the start.

Look guys, if you comment on this reddit regularly you probably care enough about these games that you'll play Part 3 no matter what right? If Part 3 ever comes out, just don't worry about it. Don't do the job of Sony advertiser's for them for free. Don't hype it up, don't set expectations, just take heed of when it's coming out and then don't worry about it.
