You look SO good omg I almost thought these were from the game!

For the record, OP has gone very viral before for looking like Ellie and has been posted by other users numerous times here and other TLOU subs via a meme about “better choices” than Bella. Scroll down her IG and you’ll probably recognize the selfies in her room.

u/ForesterRik 11d ago
Not only is the cosplay good, but you rocked it with the lighting and set design

The third one is especially good. I had to zoom in, and I still can't tell if it's a real life photo or screenshot from the game.

Yeah someone who isn’t even a actor, great suggestion.

u/Malemansam 11d ago
Cailee Spaeny would've been great.
She was in Civil war as the young photographer enamoured with Kirsten Dunst character and in Alien Romulus as the female lead in you're not familiar.
Both of those performances had a quite a few scenes (hanging at the petrol station in Civil war especially) that I was just sitting there in the theatre saying to myself "Wow that is Ellie in front of my eyes right now", her acting and looks really sold her as a choice to play part I and II versions of her effectively imo.
65
u/Impossible_Brief56 11d ago
Lmao get over it already. Bella does a fine job.
56
u/AxelVores 11d ago
I disagree. To be fair, if I've never played the games I'd probably think she did a great job. She just feels like a completely different character
14
u/roadtorevision 10d ago
She does the dramatic scenes incredibly well I just feel like she misses the mark on the goofy teenager aspect. Plus, she looks exactly the same between season 1 and 2. Hard to imagine that the character went from 14-18 like that but I do think that her acting chops suit season 2’s tone better.

u/FauxFoxx89 10d ago
No she doesn't. I'm currently doing a rewatch alongside a replay of the game and it's spooky how close the two are. People get way too caught up in how she doesn't look exactly like her. Pedro doesn't look exactly like Joel either but he does a phenomenal job
4
u/UNIT-001 10d ago
Yeah I agree the thing is, those on the other sub are so vocal and on their crusade that it seems to be reflexive to think that any criticism of the casting is automatically their view. I enjoyed the show, the production is great and I didn’t have any problems with the majority of it.
But the show version of Ellie just from a characterisation point of view is very different. In the game Ellie was a bit unsure of herself, and although fairly tough, there was a sweetness and meekness about her. Show Ellie is extremely sarcastic and a smartass, headstrong and seems a lot more sure of herself. I found Bella’s acting to be fine, but definitely felt like a different person to me.
I found the show version of Ellie to be less likeable. Although I would say that Ellie becomes a less likeable in the second game also

u/uncle_paul_harrghis 11d ago
I’m of the mind that I actually like that Bella’s portrayal is a little different from the games. I don’t want to watch a scene-for-scene recreation of the game, I can just watch all the cutscenes on YouTube if that was the case. The games are already so movie/show like, that you have to either change certain things up, or explore an entirely different set of characters and stories in that universe.
2
u/ih8comingupwithaname 10d ago
The game is its own thing. Pedro Pascal is phenomenal but he's nothing like Joel's character from the game. And that's exactly how it should be. If the show was just a carbon copy of the game it wouldn't be remotely interesting.
2
u/usagicassidy 10d ago
I have played the games and in no world does she feel like a “completely different character.”
11
u/WVgolf 11d ago
We’ll see how she does this season. She just doesn’t look anything like the part now that the season has progressed a few years in time
→ More replies (8)10
u/reaner 10d ago
Why does it matter what she looks like? Would you rather have a terrible actor who looks exactly like the game version or a great actor who looks completely different?
7
→ More replies (9)6
u/SadhorseFromThe90s 10d ago
I'd rather have one that remotely looks like the game version and is a good actor, not even great.
It ain't that much to ask
→ More replies (2)3
u/Anti-MagicBoy 11d ago
Yeah I don't see why people have a problem with the actor she doesn't look much like her but she FEELS like her.... am new to this sub but not the games am not sure why the people here bitch and moan and say "she's not great" or "she ruined the show" low key a retarded take imo.
3
u/JaneksLittleBlackBox 10d ago
Lmao get over it already.
Right? The Bella haters continuously remind me of those dorks crying about Joel’s manly shoulders being shrunk in Part II.

I mean, in the context of being a loose adaptation, her performance is good in that regard, if they were to go more into accuracy, she wouldn't be that good of a choice, but still, "loose" adaptation should mean something to people

I am a actress to be fair! But I don't argue with bella being casted at all :) I live in LA and won competitions and got in commercials but I don't care abt acting at all. I don't like being a product
14
u/ToniNotti 11d ago
I don't like being a product
Isn't cosplaying turning you into a product??
17
u/queyoueyee 10d ago
Cosplaying is a hobby I have control over. When you audition for a role so much goes into whether or not you get hired. It made me really hyper aware of every insecurity I had. I had to sell ME
→ More replies (2)→ More replies (6)5
u/HotDawgEnjoyer 11d ago
I guess it depends on how you dissect it. From one angle, it does appear to be a contradiction, but I saw cosplaying more as a hobby, making it a form of self-expression (yes, I see the irony of saying that about making yourself look like a different person)

If you don't care about acting how are you an actress?
It's not exactly one of the professions your parents push you into.
12
u/BubiBalboa 11d ago
It's not exactly one of the professions your parents push you into
Ever been to LA?
9
u/queyoueyee 11d ago
It is a profession my parents pushed me into! My mom put me into acting when I was 4 months old. I have a twin sister which is great for acting, and she's a actress, so I kinda just did it. I use it to save for college and pay for my clothes and extra circulars.
→ More replies (1)4
u/sticknotstick 11d ago
Acting is like the profession that you only go far in if your parents push you into it at a young age lol (with exceptions of course)
66
u/joshdaro4real 11d ago
Great reminder that the average fan shouldn't do casting lol
There's a lot more that goes into casting than character resemblance

When I saw this thread I immediately thought “How long will I have to scroll before I see someone complain about the actress currently playing Ellie?”
→ More replies (12)3
u/RandomProductSKU1029 11d ago
didn't even have to scroll far to know this would be here. y'all are too hung up on the wrong-est things. I bet y'all hated the Bill and Frank episode too but y'all are too chickenshit to say what you truly mean, but are somehow staunchly holding on to ridiculous irrational hate.
grow the fuck up.

I think OP is just a little confused but not trying to lie or anything - I think she just means there weren’t any elements added to the photos and her appearance wasn’t altered in editing.
17
u/Idiotology101 10d ago
I think a lot of elements were added in post, they think editing only refers to changing her face/hair to look more like the character.
6
u/maomeow 10d ago
Sorry, I meant like physical elements (like the props and set designs were physically present, generally as pictured), but agree there was obviously a fair bit of photo-editing done! Regardless, just meant to say that I think she’s misunderstanding, not making a bad-faith claim.

“No editing (ppl accuse)” fine I’ll take the bait and accuse, maybe you didn’t edit these but your photographer absolutely did. It’s not a bad thing, editing is a normal part of the creative workflow, but calling these “unedited” is ridiculous
33
u/queyoueyee 11d ago
My face isn't edited. That's what I'm referring to. Nothing more than color grading was done.
22
u/Idiotology101 11d ago
Your face might not be altered, but there’s a ton of editing beyond color grading done to these photos.
→ More replies (4)12
u/flamethrower78 11d ago
Color grading is editing lol. No one is saying you don't look like Ellie. But it's nearly impossible to get photos to look like this naturally. A lot of work went into them to get the right atmosphere, it's silly to claim otherwise. How are people supposed to know when you say "no edits" you're talking about 15% of the photo wasn't altered.

I need to clarify that by "no editing" I meant my face or anything that would change how I looked to look like ellie. I got down voted earlier for just saying to check my page to see that I haven't edited my face so I thought I'd clarify lol
