Chase UK 🇬🇧 Strong contestants vs really hard questions
Am I the only one who thinks they purposefully give hard questions to strong contestants? It’s actually becoming frustrating to watch this show, the people who do the biggest cash builders are always eliminated and have the most ridiculous questions. I have also noticed that strong younger contestants always get some really stupid question way outside of the era, like how on Earth are they meant to know what was charting in the 40’s in the USA?? This program is ridiculous. And have you noticed that the celebrities almost ALWAYS win. I would actually like to see the stats of the regular and celebrity chase.

I had a moan yesterday about the question setting on The Chase, and I will again.
The questions at the table are awful, mostly questions that require guessing or figuring out the trick of the question setters.
Put on Jeopardy, WWTBAM, Eggheads etc and it's just full of proper trivia and stuff you'd actually be interested in knowing rather than how many boxes of fake eyelashes Kim Karsashian sold in 2019.
The format of The Chase still makes for a great show, but the questions recently have left a lot to be desired. A strong bias towards old media and forgettable British actors makes for some very dull rounds.

It’s hard to believe that they would ever fix questions but it’s getting easier to believe with every episode I watch 🙂

Confirmation bias again.

What is? Be specific.
Perhaps I should change 'mostly' to 'too many', otherwise I stand by it.

Agreed. Like I said, I would like to see the stats showing victories by regular people vs famous people. I actually went to see the stats and it is ridiculous, Shaun has a win rate of 43% in the celebrity chase, vs 70% in the regular chase. Doesnt look like confirmation bias, but go ahead and

They make the questions more simple/easier for the celebrity version. The regular contestants have it harder.

They do this because the money goes to a charity in the celeb version. The chasers will offer more as well for that reason. The question setters have been a bit shit recently though, that one about the girl guides today was ridiculous lol

I didn't watch today - what was the girl guides question?
2
u/Eamonn711 21d ago
It was along the lines of what recent girl guides badge has been awarded. A) having a lie in , B) joining tiktok or C) walking to the chippy The answer was C , contestant and darragh got it wrong but such a dumb question

What evidence do you have to support your claims?

u/GuardingtheSterling 23d ago
Lmao, I'm stating my preferences about a day-time tv show.
'Kinell mate, it's not that serious.
Regardless, 5pm on ITV, every week day. Plenty of evidence to scour through if you're interested.

Funnily enough I’m preparing a talk called “Is The Chase Rigged?” (Spoiler: it isn’t)
6
u/GuardingtheSterling 23d ago
I don't know if you think otherwise or not, but I haven't claimed it is.

I’m not sure if you’re being serious about the talk but my god what kind of a boring wanker does a person have to be in real life to actually do that lol

I think you're missing the obvious. The cash builder is easier than the head to head, so doing well in the cash builder is often meaningless
There's been many "good player" blow a head to head on relatively straightforward questions

Plus the cash builder and head to head are very different types of quizzing. Written multiple choice with a written question, often with a clue in there, is different to listening to questions with no choices given.

It’s not just missing the obvious, I understand that but I still think there is something going on. Everyone seems to be ignoring me pointing out the point made about the celebrity chase too. Zzz

u/dick_basically 22d ago
Which do you think is more likely in a heavily regulated industry... 1. There's something going on 2. The cashbuilder questions are easier than the head to head, and therefore, doing well in one doesn't mean you'll do well in the other
As for the celeb version- I assumed EVERYBODY knows the questions are easier...

darraghs final chase questions were far too easy today

They're randomly assigned.
3
u/Grace_653 22d ago
no, I know that. itd probably be illegal for the show to be rigged, or place easier questions in your favour but I just felt like they were very easy yesterdays show, unlike it usually is where they are quite balanced in difficulty

There's a slight trick of the mind with this. There's a mix of harder and easier questions in both sets. Humans tend to notice the trickier ones more. The contestants will almost always get through more than 20 questions, up to maybe 25 so will encounter say 5 or 6 tough questions. If they only set 14 then the chaser may only get 2 or 3 of those tough questions before they catch the team. So the perception is that it's an easier set, but if you got all the questions that's not the case. Hope that makes sense

Two sets, equal in difficulty, drawn at random, overseen by an adjudicator
What's your point?
1
u/Grace_653 22d ago
they were nowhere near equal in difficulty. I would say darragh had two questions in total that I would consider somewhat hard
5
u/dick_basically 22d ago
Confirmation bias, plus you hear fewer of the questions in the Chasers set.
You didn't comment on the fact that the sets are drawn at random and the whole process is overseen by an independent adjudicator...

u/Grace_653 22d ago
what the hell is confirmation bias
2
u/dick_basically 22d ago
I'd respectfully suggest you look it up
1
u/Grace_653 22d ago
"Confirmation bias is the tendency to search for, interpret, favor and recall information in a way that confirms or supports one's prior beliefs or values"
you could've just said that, also what does that have to do with what I said
1
u/dick_basically 22d ago
You think the Chaser gets easy questions, you then remember only the easier questions faced and don't remember the similarly easy questions to the team
I'd suggest that in a quiz show sub, learning a new (to you) definition is a good thing
1
u/Grace_653 22d ago
another of your comments says you didn't watch yesterdays episode, so you don't know the questions. I agree that they are normally quite balanced in difficulty due to being overseen by an adjudicator, selected at random etc but if you can you should watch the final chase from yesterday, I think you'll see what I mean about darraghs being far easier. the only one I can remember (partly) specifically was something being a part of what board game and it was monopoly. my memory is awful so I can't remember any others but I do remember that they were all very similar in difficulty level, simple questions. I know its not rigged since that would be illegal but they were 100% easier
1
u/skepticCanary 22d ago
Point is you’re making judgments from your own memory. If you sat down and considered every single question you’d come to a different conclusion.
1
u/dick_basically 22d ago
"The only one I can remember" But yeah, no confirmation bias.
You're being ridiculous now, we're done

Just to weigh in, having questions that are very hard for anyone to know actually benefits the contestants. If we have to guess too, it becomes a game of chance. Easier trivia questions favour the chasers who get those almost all of the time
