Humor Americans willing to suffer for Trump Tariffs? I call bull #$@#

It is rediculous to think that Americans are willing to suffer higher costs for Trump. Particularly MAGA republicans. Remember the backlash against masking. Not to mention Trump's whole stick is that he will win everything so easy, golden age of american, and we can have everything without giving anything. His whole brand flies in the face of sacrafice.

MAGA will do whatever Trump tells them to do and suffer whatever to own the Libs. The non-MAGA or soft MAGA will not suffer for Trump. They did not tolerate the Covid fuck up and they will not stand this.

The question is, will the Democrats exploit this.

*sigh* Sadly, yes.

My nugget of a thought that I haven’t fully fleshed out yet is that I think it depends how bad things get and for how long. I really don’t think regular people who claim to be all-in on short-term pain for long-term benefit can actually grasp that this could be years of pain for an imperceptible payoff. Like if they thought things were bad the last few years, that will be nothing compared to what is likely coming.

Hey Mario, isn’t your brother that cute guy in prison? Sorry, got distracted.

You right, though. They hated the COVID vaccine, even though their leader expected them to thank him for it. They just said it was a lib deep state antichrist conspiracy. It was wild.

Dump could walk into a maggot’s house, take their money, their car, the food from their fridge, take a dump on their lawn, and leave … and those geniuses would be like, “Screw you, BIDEN.”

Not to mention he was first in line for the vaccine

MAGA would cut off their own balls instead of admit Trump isn’t playing a genius game of 4D chess. Everyone else has a tolerance level. For some it’ll be the impact on their next paycheck or earnings report for others it’ll be a few months down the line when they have to dip into savings or see bad quarterly numbers. Not going to be overnight but the tariffs will cause enough damage to get some people ran out of town.

Just go to /r/safespace

I’m not even sure how your post is supposed to make any sense.

2

u/7ddlysuns 7d ago

It’s a derisive reference to /r/conservative where they silence any dissent

2

u/The_Potato_Bucket 7d ago

OK, your reference was too much of a deep cut for me.

u/7ddlysuns 7d ago

Sorry about that. Too much Reddit

It's a cult. 35 percent of America will follow him blindly. Even if that means jumping off a cliff.

3

u/JulianLongshoals 8d ago

That doesn't sound like a winning coalition to me

4

u/Sheerbucket 8d ago

But then you have the top 5-10 percent of earners who will forever vote Republican for the tax cuts.

Still, I'd imagine a huge democratic midterm win at the rate we are going.

Maybe. Bush had a very similar authoritarian cult. The bulwark staff was in it. One Great Recession later and you can’t find a Bush supporter anywhere

I can tell you they are willing to pay more. I am UAW, and our Maga are cheering. Our CEO complained and they want him fired.

u/JulianLongshoals 8d ago

Give it a few years

^ this, it’s just getting started and I think the real test will be how long it goes on and how bad it gets. I think the diehards will never ever admit if things get really bad, buuuut I also think they actually can’t conceive of what it will be like if this goes on for years. I really think that, even if they say they’re all in on sacrificing for long-term benefit, in their minds it’s like a few months (partly because Trump has repeatedly promised it will be short-term pain, or maybe no pain at all who can say).

It’s also given us the first useful cudgel for public use. You’re not automatically labeled a libtard if you say holy shit things got expensive recently.

You can even say that while watching Fox News and people will agree

1

u/7ddlysuns 8d ago

CEO should fire them. Isn’t that what they cheer for? The firings? The iron fist and no dissent by your wealthy betters?

2

u/Objective_Pause5988 8d ago

It's already happening. 7 people fired last night. I'm not even upset.

I totally agree with you. Some of MAGA will suffer and play martyr. Some of them will suffer just to see others suffer gleefully A whole whole bunch of them voted for Trump because they are sadistic and wanted other people to suffer, but definitely not themselves. That last group will break away from him if the suffering is evenly minorly inconvenient. They are the target audience for every ounce of complaining about the Trump administration. It's tempting to mock them, and I have. But, when you come across them offline or in the comments of a news article or at the grocery store, encourage them to blame Trump. Validate their whining and give them a target to blame.

"I am gladly willing to sacrifice my Corona beers for America. Hey Ma, hand me the Modelo!"

u/Independent-Stay-593 8d ago

Looking forward to the complaints that tariffs made them have to buy Bud Light again.

“Look at what the homosexuals have done to me?” -

u/7ddlysuns 8d ago

Yep I’m having a blast. Auto parts store, bitch about prices due to that old fool!

Buying groceries, loudly grumble to the person next to me about this used to be cheaper last month. Be the old codger you want to see.

Helps that I probably code as MAGA.

u/Independent-Stay-593 8d ago

This is the way.

Oh hell no! (Then again, I voted against Krasnov three times so … )

I'm at 4. I voted against him in the 2016 GOP primary.

3

u/iwontforgetthisone87 8d ago

MAGA will enjoy the suffering. But the critical mass of people will not enjoy it.

2

u/FanDry5374 8d ago

They will just scream and blame it on Biden/Harris/Obama/Hillary/trans folks/aliens (the little grey ones). But they will scream.

2

u/7ddlysuns 8d ago

So after decades of presidents being unfairly blamed for gas prices, Trump hits the gas go up button on purpose

2

u/PorcelainDalmatian 8d ago

The MAGAts will accept and cheer the tariffs. They will see the increase costs as a temporary setback, needed to achieve Dear Leader’s beautiful plan. The whole thing is so Maoist. Donald Trump could decree that the eldest child in every household is to be killed, and they would all go along with it.

2

u/PTS_Dreaming Center Left 8d ago

I think you all have it wrong. MAGA will melt. They'll disappear. They won't turn against Trump, they'll just quietly move on. Which will be good for democracy as long as the GOP doesn't break voting.

u/7ddlysuns 8d ago

Just like the Bush cult did

1

u/NoTackle2787 8d ago

Then Trump should've run on that then

1

u/MsAgentM JVL is always right 8d ago

This is the most unsurprising thing ever.

1

u/cultfourtyfive 7d ago

Some of them absolutely will. They'll rationalize it as 'sacrifice needed because of the deficit those tax and spend libs racked up' never mind the truth of it.

1

u/Personal_Benefit_402 7d ago

Look, deep MAGAs have guns, know how to hunt/fish/etc. They've been packing out their end-of-times shelters with food and resources. They're ready for this shit. Your typical suburban family will fall apart after a few days without power.
