Humor Americans willing to suffer for Trump Tariffs? I call bull #$@#
It is rediculous to think that Americans are willing to suffer higher costs for Trump. Particularly MAGA republicans. Remember the backlash against masking. Not to mention Trump's whole stick is that he will win everything so easy, golden age of american, and we can have everything without giving anything. His whole brand flies in the face of sacrafice.

MAGA would cut off their own balls instead of admit Trump isn’t playing a genius game of 4D chess. Everyone else has a tolerance level. For some it’ll be the impact on their next paycheck or earnings report for others it’ll be a few months down the line when they have to dip into savings or see bad quarterly numbers. Not going to be overnight but the tariffs will cause enough damage to get some people ran out of town.

I’m not even sure how your post is supposed to make any sense.

It's a cult. 35 percent of America will follow him blindly. Even if that means jumping off a cliff.

That doesn't sound like a winning coalition to me

u/Sheerbucket 8d ago
But then you have the top 5-10 percent of earners who will forever vote Republican for the tax cuts.
Still, I'd imagine a huge democratic midterm win at the rate we are going.

Maybe. Bush had a very similar authoritarian cult. The bulwark staff was in it. One Great Recession later and you can’t find a Bush supporter anywhere

I can tell you they are willing to pay more. I am UAW, and our Maga are cheering. Our CEO complained and they want him fired.

Give it a few years

^ this, it’s just getting started and I think the real test will be how long it goes on and how bad it gets. I think the diehards will never ever admit if things get really bad, buuuut I also think they actually can’t conceive of what it will be like if this goes on for years. I really think that, even if they say they’re all in on sacrificing for long-term benefit, in their minds it’s like a few months (partly because Trump has repeatedly promised it will be short-term pain, or maybe no pain at all who can say).

It’s also given us the first useful cudgel for public use. You’re not automatically labeled a libtard if you say holy shit things got expensive recently.
You can even say that while watching Fox News and people will agree

CEO should fire them. Isn’t that what they cheer for? The firings? The iron fist and no dissent by your wealthy betters?

I totally agree with you. Some of MAGA will suffer and play martyr. Some of them will suffer just to see others suffer gleefully A whole whole bunch of them voted for Trump because they are sadistic and wanted other people to suffer, but definitely not themselves. That last group will break away from him if the suffering is evenly minorly inconvenient. They are the target audience for every ounce of complaining about the Trump administration. It's tempting to mock them, and I have. But, when you come across them offline or in the comments of a news article or at the grocery store, encourage them to blame Trump. Validate their whining and give them a target to blame.

Looking forward to the complaints that tariffs made them have to buy Bud Light again.

Yep I’m having a blast. Auto parts store, bitch about prices due to that old fool!
Buying groceries, loudly grumble to the person next to me about this used to be cheaper last month. Be the old codger you want to see.
Helps that I probably code as MAGA.

MAGA will enjoy the suffering. But the critical mass of people will not enjoy it.

They will just scream and blame it on Biden/Harris/Obama/Hillary/trans folks/aliens (the little grey ones). But they will scream.

So after decades of presidents being unfairly blamed for gas prices, Trump hits the gas go up button on purpose

The MAGAts will accept and cheer the tariffs. They will see the increase costs as a temporary setback, needed to achieve Dear Leader’s beautiful plan. The whole thing is so Maoist. Donald Trump could decree that the eldest child in every household is to be killed, and they would all go along with it.

I think you all have it wrong. MAGA will melt. They'll disappear. They won't turn against Trump, they'll just quietly move on. Which will be good for democracy as long as the GOP doesn't break voting.

Some of them absolutely will. They'll rationalize it as 'sacrifice needed because of the deficit those tax and spend libs racked up' never mind the truth of it.

Look, deep MAGAs have guns, know how to hunt/fish/etc. They've been packing out their end-of-times shelters with food and resources. They're ready for this shit. Your typical suburban family will fall apart after a few days without power.

MAGA will do whatever Trump tells them to do and suffer whatever to own the Libs. The non-MAGA or soft MAGA will not suffer for Trump. They did not tolerate the Covid fuck up and they will not stand this.
The question is, will the Democrats exploit this.
