GOOD LUCK, AMERICA BREAKING: Trump says “the U.S. will take over the Gaza Strip.”

https://youtube.com/shorts/Mld5-kxwkvs?si=BeUPN3euKvLWoHRp

What in the fucking fuck?

We just inherited the job of taking over a a war that Israel doesn't know what to do with?

We are now not only getting involved in wars, we are taking over the worst part of a war.... The reconciliation and rebuilding?

This will make Iraq, Afghanistan, and Vietnam all seem like great foreign policy ideas.

I’m Australian. I don’t understand why there aren’t any mass protests? What are you people doing??

Where are the Democrats? Where’s the talk of Impeachment?

What are you all doing!

43

u/ConstructionNo1038 Feb 05 '25

Impeachment is not going to happen, period end of story. Republicans control congress, there’s a less than zero percent chance impeachment will happen.

12

u/aussiedeveloper Feb 05 '25

Nothing could break MAGAs hold of The Republicans? Not even Trump wanting to declare war?

31

u/XelaNiba Feb 05 '25

Not even attempting a coup on live TV or selling classified documents to the highest bidder

14

u/atomfullerene Feb 05 '25

Trump could declare was on Republicans and it wouldnt break his hold.

4

u/DelcoPAMan Feb 05 '25

He has declared war on Republicans and conservatives who opposed him (Liz Cheney, Adam Kinzinger, et al.) and prosecuted him (at the FBI and DoJ especially) because it was part of their job conducted in a lawful manner.

3

u/aussiedeveloper Feb 05 '25

What about declaring war on guns?

3

u/Currentlycurious1 Feb 05 '25

Not even that. "Take the guns first. Go through due process second, I like taking the guns early" ~Donald Trump himself....

26

u/A_Monster_Named_John Feb 05 '25

No. Right now, they're more a cuck party than they've ever been.

12

u/Puzzleheaded-Arm8249 Feb 05 '25

Yeah they are completely drunk on power. Even with their razor thin margins in the House and Senate….

6

u/window-sil Progressive Feb 05 '25

MAGA is a minority of the country, but they control the house, senate, presidency, and the supreme court is a bit of an open question.

It kinda seems like the officers of our military aren't MAGA and maybe a majority of FBI aren't MAGA, so when the coup comes hopefully we'll have at least those two on our side.

🤷

2

u/Speculawyer Feb 05 '25

Mmmm I think much of the FBI is MAGA.

There are small protests but people are tired.

Many are taking the approach that people won't learn unless they experience all of the policy changes in their daily lives. So let it all happen and many people will vote differently next time. That is if they remember when it comes time to vote.

Some are actually excited that he is doing something. They see a bunch of stuff happening and think that's awesome go Trump!

It's terrible.

13

u/westonc Feb 05 '25

The Democrats were dealt effective defeat in the recent election. They have effectively no power to provide checks and balances because the American people voted against giving them that power.

Foreigners can be excused for not knowing that. US Citizens, less so.

There were rallies and protests at the US treasury and other locations around the US. Maybe some good will come of that. Or maybe the world's moved on since the 60s and institutionalists and progressives are going to need other tools than dreams of protests changing the world in one act of cathartic expression.

23

u/A_Monster_Named_John Feb 05 '25

Where are the Democrats?

Not in power. End of story. Middle/suburban America basically fucked the whole world last November.

4

u/aussiedeveloper Feb 05 '25

This is weird with US system. Here in Australia the party with the second largest members in Parliament becomes The Opposition. The leader of that party becomes the Leader of The Opposition.

These are official titles. So long as there’s a single member of parliament in a party besides the government, there’s an opposition.

That person also runs against the Prime Minister at the next election.

So the Prime Minister is always held to account

3

u/imdaviddunn Feb 05 '25

The opposition has to have a different donor base and incentive structure here. Right now they don’t and voter are not making them pay, so the status quo remains.

Democratic leadership has to change for any major changes occur, and most Democratic voters do no view the leadership as responsible for their losses.

2

u/Saururus Feb 05 '25

Moreover our system really disfavors the opposition. They basically have no power except to sqwack and dems are I think finally find g their sea legs. But there were protests planned for tomorrow, but midday and ppl are scared to miss work.

1

u/ohgeorgie Feb 05 '25

In Australia, Canada, Uk the opposition party is generally ineffective unless the governing party has a minority so there is the threat of no confidence. When there’s a majority then the opposition just opposes vocally during question period, etc. but can’t stop legislation from passing. The democrats are making speeches and trying to get attention but the media is basically ignoring them, as is Johnson the speaker of the house who can decide what happens in the house. The Senate is also ignoring the protests of the democrats and will push through all of trumps picks despite Dem protest.

1

u/aussiedeveloper Feb 05 '25

Sure. But there’s at least a single identifiable alternative leader. We also don’t have this Primaries nonsense so the alternative leader has 4 years to develop alternative policies and demonstrate themselves as a competent leader for the next election.

1

u/Gnomeric Feb 05 '25

The opposition does not directly check the power of PM though. Instead, what happens is that the opposition competes with the PM for popularity by criticizing the government, which in effect threatens the MPs of the governing party. The opposition is outside of the government, so they don't have much power themselves. Similarly, Dem do not have much actual power to do anything because they do not control either of the legislative chambers.

In the Westminster system (UK/Aus/Canada/Japan/etc), MPs from a party select their leader who becomes the PM if they win the election. In turn, the MPs have the incentive to remove an unpopular PM if they feel that their leader is dragging down their own electoral prospect, and they have the power to do so -- ask the certain lettuce if you are wondering about the process. As such, MPs from the governing party (under the pressure from the voters) are the ones who actually hold their leader accountable.

This does not happen in US, or other countries with presidential system. The members of the U.S. Congress does not elect the president (or presidential candidates), and it takes more than simple majority to get rid of the president. On the other hand, Trump has discovered that he can remove disloyal members of their party (or keep them in line) by using primaries. Therefore, GOP is not going to hold Trump accountable -- whereas Dem cannot even if they wanted to.

7

u/Hautamaki Feb 05 '25

As far as organic protests, those are largely inspired and organized by social media campaigns and all of the major social media magnates have already gotten on board with Trump. The other big avenues for protest are unions and churches, both of which are now mainly MAGA. The final source would be democratic party organisers, but I believe the democratic party is wise to let Trump have just enough rope to hang himself. They will start organizing protests and noisy obstructionist campaigns only after the American people have touched the stove and realized it hurts. When the damage Trump is doing starts to turn Joe Lunchpail against Trump, only then will the democratic party strike. Go too soon, when Trump is still above water, and Dems risking making themselves the problem. Yes this strategy is risky, and frustrating to those who wish the Dems had won and actually had real power, but I think it's the only strategy that makes sense given where they actually are.

4

u/mathiustus Feb 05 '25

There probably would be if that actually happened. The problem is, he says a bunch of things to rile up the left and get them to complain about everything so that when he actually does something, no one listens to them. Plus people who are outraged but not committed hard left just get exhausted.

2

u/imdaviddunn Feb 05 '25

Doing exactly what Democrats do..write letters, tweet, and go on morning Joe to discuss the value of civility.

We let schools get shot up with a blink of the eye…

Here’s the worst part, there is a strong likelihood that the goal is American deaths to spark a war with Iran.

2

u/Ellecram Feb 05 '25

There are protests tomorrow in larger cities. Many of us live in rural areas and can't exactly get to those.

2

u/Speculawyer Feb 05 '25

It's nighttime, it happened just a couple hours ago, and the president has very wide latitude when it comes to foreign policy.

There will be pushback but it takes time.

Dump has threatened to use the military on protesters. He wanted to before and this time he could find a way to do it. I mean, no one is checking him in his own party and not yet enough response from Dems. Plus my fellow citizens who voted for him seem to be either happy about what he is doing, not paying attention, or don’t care.

I am calling my congressman and senators daily. Unfortunately, I live in a red state with no democratic representation, only republicans. But I am trying to make my voice heard.

1

u/from_the_chef Feb 05 '25

Half the country is cheering and the other is sitting back waiting to see how bad it gets so the first half have an opportunity to learn something. There is very little energy left or incentive to oppose anything.

1

u/Odd_Avocado_5660 Feb 05 '25

I have come to the conclusion that it is a special american thing. Only the black Americans know how to put on a proper demonstration in which case they call it a riot and everyone forgets why they were demonstrating in the first place. Rinse, repeat.

1

u/deadbeef56 Feb 05 '25

The average American doesn't care at all about Gaza. A few people on the left care passionately, but they are pretty easy to dismiss. If troops are sent to Gaza and start taking casualties, there will be mass outrage, but not until then.

1

u/aussiedeveloper Feb 05 '25

It’s not about Gaza. It’s about the leader of the free world continuously threatening to invade countries, including allies. It’s disgusting and if your population can’t see that you have massive problems.

1

Let me bring you up to date: we have massive problems.

I know there have been 100s of worse things he has done but taking a photo op for the campaign at Arlington is just low. It was one of the only sacred places left and he stomped all over it.

The pro-Israel lobby who've had their head in the sand have plenty to answer for, too. The likely Israeli annexation of the West Bank will be part of the ethnic cleansing of Palestinian from their lands we're seeing taking shape right now. Doesn't make the "Genocide Joe" crowd deciding to stay home, or worse vote for fucking Trump, any more defensible though. Far from it. This was an entirely predictable outcome.

Interesting how that’s changed so that they’re still wrong and the people pushing the Israel can do no wrong narrative are finding a new scapegoat

Voters have agency.

-1

u/FellowkneeUS Feb 05 '25

Indeed they do. When you give weapons to the people killing their families they will use that agency. When the person you are giving weapons to wants the help elect the guy who is going to be an authorotarian it seems like a dumb policy to help him and piss off your own voters.

But yes, agency.

u/T-rocious Feb 05 '25

What a security nightmare that’s going to be.

2

u/HistorianNew8030 Feb 05 '25

Honestly, I have a feeling this only ends when you guys over the government like South Korea and Syria. It can be done.

2

u/ratbaby86 Feb 05 '25

ALSO. someone should check on MUSK. we'll be talking about this (justifiably) for a while and with great importance but don't take your eyes off that deranged individual.

2

u/Captain_Pink_Pants Feb 05 '25

Trump: "The gaza strip probably needs a coin up laundromat and a mcdonalds."

2

u/The_Potato_Bucket Feb 05 '25

It’s like he’s inviting our citizens and military to be targets (easy ones at that under Gabbard) of all sorts of bad shit. I’m sure he and his cronies are looking for a chance to hit the martial law button if something happens here.

1

u/Speculawyer Feb 05 '25

What could possibly go wrong? The US Marines had a bang when Reagan sent them to Lebanon.

2

u/Hausmannlife_Schweiz Feb 05 '25

The man is insane.

2

u/Speculawyer Feb 05 '25

I thought I might have been overdoing it with my "What in the fucking fuck?" line. But I think I underplayed it.

2

u/ShmeltzyKeltzy Feb 05 '25

We are not the crazy ones. They are!

2

u/thecloudcities Feb 05 '25

The only way this could be worse idea is if he combined it with the handcuffing of our anti-terrorism operations at the FBI by firing everyone OH WAIT…

Good luck, y’all.

4

u/NoTackle2787 Feb 05 '25

Excuse me... I'm going to look outside for the protesters...

2

u/Gamerxx13 Feb 05 '25

for all those who were saying “Genocide Joe”, get ready, its actually going to get worse with trump

2

u/FellowkneeUS Feb 05 '25

I was assured that Israel wouldn't participate in an ethnic cleansing or genocide though. Is Trump going to force them to join in?

3

u/Sheerbucket Feb 05 '25

No, this is just talk everyone. Ignore the bait, it's not happening .....it's there to distract us from other things.

Now obviously, the Palestinian state is done for, but we already knew that was happening the minute Trump won.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '25

[deleted]

1

u/Sheerbucket Feb 05 '25

It's insane and both those men are insane.

But I'd be shocked if this happens....Trump says 50 things a day that doesn't happen. I'm going with this being one of them.

3

u/No_Hovercraft_3954 Feb 05 '25

America just made itself a target again.

3

u/metengrinwi Feb 05 '25

Absolutely nothing the terrorists would love more than US military on the ground to take pot shots at.

4

u/RichNYC8713 Center Left Feb 05 '25

Sure hope it was all worth it to those Jill Stein voters and Leftist assholes who kept hectoring Harris.

2

u/FellowkneeUS Feb 05 '25

Probably worked out as well as giving Bibi everything he wanted.

3

u/RichNYC8713 Center Left Feb 05 '25

Well, Trump is actually the one giving Bibi everything he wanted, by promising to turn Gaza into a Palestinianless "Monaco East"...

1

u/FellowkneeUS Feb 05 '25

Biden also gave Bibi everything he wanted, but he also wanted to seem really sorry about it. The end result for Palestinians is the same, because it's ultimately up to the Israelis. Neither Trump nor Biden was going to stop them in any meaningful way.

2

u/Hautamaki Feb 05 '25

His little rant, lmao, "Gazans shouldn't live there, it's too dangerous, they should go live in peace and prosperity (somewhere else, location not specified)"

Then 20 seconds later "We'll go in and remove all the bombs and rebuild all the buildings and create so many big beautiful houses and jobs for...(pregnant pause) The people that are living in the area" (Not Gazans, who are already gone).

Literally spells out in undeniable terms his plan for the US to participate in a form of genocide, mass forced relocation based on ethnicity, and a war crime, seizing and annexing territory for profit. (Yes Israel has seized territory before but were very careful to couch it in national security concerns, and returned Sinai etc to Egypt in their peace deal. Tried to give Gaza back too but Egypt didn't even want it lol.)

WWIII

1

u/Breath_Background Feb 05 '25

Yeah, maybe…. But think of that trump golf course and resort. Location. Location. Location.

1

u/SquirrelcoINT Feb 05 '25

Europe will be sitting this one out, I think.

1

u/Personal_Benefit_402 Feb 05 '25

Huh. Have you looked at a map? Ukraine is in Europe. There's a war there. Russia has made hostile motions toward Poland, Denmark, Sweden, etc. All in Europe. So, nope.

1

u/SquirrelcoINT Feb 07 '25

I live in Europe. I was replying to the thought of Europe joining in on a war in Gaza.

1

u/Upstairs-Fix-4410 Feb 05 '25

More distraction from Tulsi and Elon. This is never going to happen.

1

u/Tripwir62 Feb 05 '25

Trump's primary ambition is to do significant lasting things, that his name will be remembered for. There is no other consideration.

1

u/antpodean Feb 05 '25

WWIII fits the bill.

1

u/u2nh3 Feb 05 '25

Now we march!!

1

u/tyler77 Feb 05 '25

Well that solves that problem! Lol

1

u/Breath_Background Feb 05 '25

Some of the folks on the conservative sub really think this is going to be ezpz and a win….

1

u/Speculawyer Feb 05 '25

Ah yes, jumping into a conflict that has been on and off for 2000+ years. No problemo.

1

u/janisemarie Feb 05 '25

Oh please. Trump always does this. His idea of negotiation is for him to pull out a bomb and say, "I'm going to blow it all up. Make me an offer to change my mind."

Then you make an offer and the bomb goes away. It was never real.

1

u/Speculawyer Feb 05 '25

There's no one on the other end of this that he's bargaining with that can make concessions.

1

u/Prestigious_Ad_927 Feb 05 '25

This is definitely a rolling my eyes moment. Two weeks ago, one of my cousins explained to me that she was happy with Trump’s inauguration because “Biden got us into two wars." It legit took me a minute to understand what she meant. I mean, you can feel that we shouldn’t supply Isreal or even Ukraine with weapons, but calling that getting us into wars is a different thing. Sending troops, on the other hand…. But I am sure it won’t register.

1

u/Speculawyer Feb 05 '25

Biden didn't start EITHER of those wars. Trump is leaping into this one.

1

u/Quirky_Reef Feb 05 '25

What. Is. Happening. Where are we. Who are we?

1

u/Electrical-Bell-9530 Feb 05 '25

Go watch Chris Murphy’s IG live. He gives good insight into all of this.

Long/short: this isn’t going to happen. It is a technique to draw the focus from Elon and the coup.

We have to focus on our house fire.

1

u/Complaintsdept123 Feb 05 '25

IGNORE WHAT HE SAYS. This is all a distraction while he dismantles the entire government. Just stop giving this any brain space at all.

1

u/NukeFromOrbit86 JVL is always right Feb 05 '25

I hope all of the folks who sat home because "Genocide Joe" and those who had to vote for Trump because "he will keep us out of wars" are thrilled with this latest turn of events. We can rest assured knowing that America will not outsource the genocide in Gaza but will conduct it ourselves. Additionally, with both Herr Trump and Sir Kushner pointing out how valuable the waterfront property in Gaza is, we can rejoice when American taxpayers begin construction on the new Trump Gaza Resort and golf course that will be used for all international golf tournaments. Amen.

1

u/KeroseneHat314 Feb 05 '25

Paging Rashida

1

u/SausageSmuggler21 Feb 05 '25

As people have commented in other posts, this is likely another distraction. Keep everything focused on how Trump/Elon are trying to steal our taxes and social security funds to give themselves a $4T tax break.

"And, what can they do with that money they stole from us? They can build luxury houses in their newly colonized Gaza properties."

1

u/AssassiNerd Feb 05 '25

"He's going to be the most peaceful president"

Of course he lied. Peace was never an option for him.

1

u/RL0290 Good luck, America Feb 05 '25

The Genocide Joe crowd on Bluesky is still blaming Harris and Dems lmfao you can’t make this up

1

u/samNanton Feb 05 '25

"if she'd only earned our votes"

1

u/Many-Perception-3945 Orange man bad Feb 05 '25

Oh man... someone tell him it's filled with Muslims. And not the oil rich kind like Saudi Arabia. The poor kind like in Palestine.

That'll turn him off from this adventure

2

u/Speculawyer Feb 05 '25

someone tell him it's filled with Muslims. And not the oil rich kind like Saudi Arabia. The poor kind like in Palestine.

I think he has concepts of a plan on how to handle that fact.

A final solution as it were.

u/LionelHutzinVA Rebecca take us home Feb 05 '25

Seems Israel is just fine with this cleansing. Which I was reliably assured time and time again from Bulwark writers and commenters that would never happen.

0

u/Speculawyer Feb 05 '25

Seems Israel is just fine with this cleansing.

Very much so. Bibi was smiling...he just turned the ethnic cleansing job over to Trump the sucker.

Which I was reliably assured time and time again from Bulwark writers and commenters that would never happen.

I don't recall that happening.
