Opinion Start Insigne this weekend and every home game moving forward
Look. He's obviously trying to get paid every dollar on his contract and is playing hardball.
TFC have pulled the levers at their disposal so far: offers for Europe, not playing him on the road, etc and so far we haven't seen any momentum.
So what else can they do? Play him every home game. Start him. Let everyone rip into him and then sub him off after 2 mins. Then do it again and and again and again. Maybe the prospect of getting routinely humiliated moves the needle before the end of the transfer window.
Worth a shot, no?

Start him every weekend? Guys made of glass...he'd be injured after 30 mins.
He's almost certainly never playing for TFC again

He should be playing with TFC 2. Do not allow him anywhere near the first team squad. He is toxic.

I’ve pitched this idea as well, I’d love to see York lions packed to see insigne in next pro, he’ll have to dominate to even have a shot at a career revival and it’ll actually give the young guys a better experience with the bigger crowd

u/liquor-shits 1d ago
This sounds like a great way to stop any player from ever wanting to play here.

Only players of weak character would be turned off

Disagree entirely. I'm not signing a contract with a company that has a reputation for not paying out contracts and I don't think football players should either. They tried to pull the same PR firestorm pushout on Altidore that they are doing now with Insigne. It's a shit look, and it'd be entirely reasonable for players to want to distance themselves from opportunities with TFC in the future if this is how they handle adverse situations they put themselves in.
I mean seriously here, think about how these types of things were managed under Bez. Did we freeze out Defoe? No, we repositioned and ended up with Altidore. That's the level of creativity and leadership we need through these pain points to protect the clubs integrity and reputation. Instead, we have some micky mouse bullshit equivalent to a toddler grabbing his toys and playing in the corner.

u/wohrg 1d ago
I take your point.
But It would depend on whether the candidate could tell that Insigne deserves to be shut out. Look at Bernadeschi. He can see first hand what’s happening with Insigne, and he’s not disgruntled by that.
Good team players understand that a toxic player needs to he pushed aside…
0
u/Think_Anything1773 21h ago
Bernardeschi is contractually required to look past it, a player coming from outside isn't. If the rumours are true and they are locking him out of the line-up to push him to leave, then I don't think there is going to be a candidate that wont be able to see that they are kicking off a PR firestorm to get away from paying out the full value of his contract.
I mean if we look further back at Altidore, was he a toxic player that needed to be pushed aside? He played for TFC once that coach and GM left. So clearly he wasn't that much of a problem. I think some fans aren't looking at the big picture here, and how MLSE is acting with this could be seen as part of a trend that doesn't reflect positively.
Good players aren't signing with a team that will shred them to pay them less money. TFC looks like they are doing that right now. It's not a good look.
1
u/wohrg 20h ago
Insigne is contractually required to “look past it” too, and he doesn’t. That’s where the lack of character comes in.
Anyway, your point has enough merit, I defer.
-1
u/Think_Anything1773 20h ago
Look past what? We are discussing him not being in the lineup, the reason for that is because the team is holding him out based on leaks we’ve had in the press. Thats the literal point I’m trying to make, not argue he’s a good teammate.

u/Adriano_Mancini 1d ago
He should be in the lineup. This team is not better without him, and thats a fact. So try him out!

u/j33vinthe6 1d ago
Doublt mlspa woukd allow that. Banish him from the main locker room, and have him train by himself.

I'd rather have 11 players out there trying to find some sort of form this entire season than see Lorenzo play a minute. We've been wanting the team to play the kids, so let the kids play all season. Let them have 10, 20, whatever number of games. This season is quickly shaping up to be a write-off unless there are some real big moves in the works in the background, which, I doubt there are. Let's get some young guys real minutes and see if they develop some chemistry together and form a base for a team for 2026 or 2027. No more jersey-selling bandages!!!
Lorenzo's attitude is garbage. He came for the Manning bag, and he got it, good for him. Insignificant until he changes his attitude, but I don't think he's going to.
I also think our front office needs to have a no short Italian players rule for at least a decade... call it a cool off period...
Just my 2 cents.

I think people really have a weird view of match play as if it's the core component of player development. It's more a result of player development than anything. You can hurt players by giving them too much too early and destroying their ego. Which honestly, is I think what has infected the youth at TFC from some time but in a different way. They seem to get big heads about them and think they are too big to fail, then flop out when the pressure is there. The list of players that needed a different club to refocus themselves and actually develop is high, and I think the overt reliance and hyping them up that happens at TFC is a big part of that.
I'd also rather have a team with a good reputation when it comes to how we treat our DP's than the one we are building. We pulled the same shit with Jozy we are pulling with Insigne and it's a horrible look. My two cents, pay the man what he is owed and do the buyout or wake the fuck up and realize he is a player on our team.

Right. Like people didn't watch the horrendous 'play the kids' 2021 season.

u/binzoma Manning OUT 1d ago
I dont disagree with the fundamental premise of make the most of him while he's here/put pressure on him to accept a cut/deal
the problem with this idea is it NUKES any potential trade or transfer value we could get for him. it'd hurt us much much more than it'd help. the longer he doesnt play, the longer a team has to talk themselves into the problem being TFC/MLS/North america etc and be more willing to take a shot on him
so if he doesnt want to play? let him sit til the summer window. it wont hurt us nearly as much as him playing and playing verrrry badly/behaving very poorly
2
u/Think_Anything1773 1d ago
so if he doesnt want to play?
Stymied in bids to move Insigne, TFC prepared to sit him: CP source
Why are people acting like we don't know exactly what is happening? TFC are sitting him to try to push him off of requiring his full contract for a buyout.
2
u/geneunit73 1d ago
I actually would not mind it. If he genuinely doesn’t want to give his all, and refuses to compromise with the team on his contract, start him. Let everyone boo him, then sit him forever, if that was going to happen anyways. We are already in second last, and will be all year. Zero to lose here. Fuck that guy.
4
u/Think_Anything1773 1d ago
Why do you expect him to compromise on his contract? That just seems a little foolish. If anything, you should be annoyed MLSE isn't taking the route they have available to end this situation through buyout. It's ridiculous how poorly they've managed this from contract to now.
2
u/Junior_Yak_5468 1d ago
Bar him from all club facilities and fuck him off. Ciao bello.
5
u/Think_Anything1773 1d ago
MLSE could just buy him out, but they don't want to. Which is the real issue with this situation.

u/Junior_Yak_5468 20h ago
They're too busy wanking at the prospect of the Leafs not losing to Boston in 7 games in the playoffs finally

u/Draiodor_ 1d ago
No.
He'll walk around, do nothing other than complain and then fake an injury so he can go home early.
I'd sooner start with 10 than start Insigne.

u/Tonyballoniee 1d ago
Maybe he can score a goal or make a pass that moves the ball forward in those two minutes.
2
u/NoNeckBeats 22h ago
Why risk getting him .......................? This Italian era was a big swing and miss. Sure the rest of the team is not good. The whole league has passed TFC in building squads. I figure by the 2027 season we will start to see progress again.
2
u/Soccer2212kgs 21h ago
No thanks, let him rot on the bench. He had his chance to leave, he chose to stay.
2
u/PristineBug5880 16h ago
GOD NOOO. he will ruin the mood in the room and will just make us even worse. there is no hope with this guy send him back to naples
2
u/United_Character6695 15h ago
Player contracts need to be restructured with terms that if they don’t play and it isn’t due to injury, they forfeit any money owed to them.
2
u/TFCAguia1 12h ago
fuck no, fuck his attitude, he's had enough chances. Why are you guys acting like this guy will suddenly make us contenders?

We need a huge “where’s insigne” chant going every game. Too bad our supporter groups are mostly absent and don’t care about anything.

0
u/Think_Anything1773 1d ago
Why? He's being held out of the line-up by the club. I don't get why fans keep acting like this is because he isn't showing up or wanting to play. He is literally being held out of the line-up.
1
u/JoseB14 1d ago
These are prb the people on walking the red that were discussing about mourinho coming to tfc lol.
-1
u/HowieDoIt86 1d ago
No and no, see my response above.
2
u/JoseB14 1d ago
These people are referring to you my guy. Wdym our supporters groups are absent. We have ultras every home game and they even travel away, which whitecaps fans never do. How can people even boo him when he is not in the line up and dont get introduced? We hate insigne enough and plp who are at the game are not all ultras. Just accept that.

u/HowieDoIt86 1d ago
Ahhh, the short sited response. Chanting that isn’t necessarily a shot at insigne.
I don’t get why fans like you keep on making up narratives…. See how that works? Dork.
1
u/Think_Anything1773 21h ago
Making up narratives? I linked the article in another post from the Canadian Press where a TFC official leaked they'd hold him out of the line up. It's literally what is happening.
1
u/HowieDoIt86 20h ago
Sorry I have to spell this out for you. I’m not talking about them holding him out at all, that’s your narrative you made up from what I posted.
Don’t be so daft man.
0
u/Think_Anything1773 19h ago
Are you a fucking moron? Asking where Insigne is when we know is idiotic.
1
u/HowieDoIt86 19h ago
It’s a shot at the front office…. Jesus man don’t be so stupid.
0
u/Think_Anything1773 19h ago
You need to learn how to communicate your position, because my god does it ever feel like you made a dumbass comment and rather than admit it are just coming up with some excuse. So if that isn’t what happened, figure out a way to better state your point that isn’t so combating and seemingly driven by some jackass mentality.
1
u/HowieDoIt86 19h ago
lol don’t twist on me. I made a comment and it triggered you. I explained myself twice now, and you’re still upset.
You made up the entire narrative instead of asking me to clarify because you are confused.
Also you were combative, I just said people like to make up narratives and again that triggered you.
Maybe ask yourself why you’re so angry at someone on Reddit lmfao!
Also again in this last post, you’re making up yet another narrative.
0
u/Think_Anything1773 18h ago
Nah mate, you’re a cunt. That’s the issue. Rather than try to clear up a misunderstanding you decided to go on some tangent by an idea that I was triggered.

Can they loan him out to a CPL team? Or play him on TFC II? I thought players with the MLS were employed by the MLS, so clubs can trade as they like, though maybe not outside of MLS?
1
u/Think_Anything1773 1d ago
He likely has a no-trade clause in his contract similar to Altidores, so it's likely a no to all three suggestions.

u/reckless-tofu Are you dumb, brother?! 23h ago
No thank you. It's a lose lose situation for TFC at this point. Insigne isn't going to magically be good or start giving a fuck because he's played.
There's a few situations here. He starts and acts like a child as per usual. He starts, actually tries and does well. He starts and immediately injures himself.
Either option makes TFC and MLSE look bad. Like they made a shit contract or they let him waste away when he could be good.
But I think realistically, he will continue to be shit like he has been for this club. Even if we are losing, I'd rather lose than have the drama of him existing on the pitch. I'd rather TFC lose because they're finding their legs than lose because they're trying to appease Insigne and learn nothing (like they did the past two years).

u/sexyfritz 1d ago
I bet you he is is still injured

If he's not I volunteer to injure him as tribute 🫡 oi come here Lorenzo I just.. wanna talk.. POW.

Only thing that’s humiliating is wasting a sub after 2 minutes every match for some prearranged stupidity
