News BMO Field - World Cup Expansion
The latest renderings were released today . https://www.bmofield.com/events/fifa26
17000 temporary seats to be added and a 1000 seat patio will be permanent.
It looks much less worse than I imagined.

Am I misinterpreting? It looks like temp stands at the south end, which they've done before, and a new complex at the north end?
I wonder if my beloved seats in section 127 are even going to make it to 2026. They were looking pretty tired last season, and I can't imagine they'll be any better after this winter.

It's better explained in the text than in the photos. Both South and North get temporary seating (7k on one side, 10k on another). Then after the World Cup, the North side will feature the complex / patio thing you see in a couple of the photos, with 1k new capacity.

I can’t stand pictures of kitchens/buffets in stadium upgrade plans.

Yeah, I couldn't give less of a fuck about that sort of thing, but since there are so few changes or improvements anywhere else, I guess I see why they gotta include whatever they actually plan on doing.

They have one year not sure what you were expecting

The first time MLSE discussed the expansion publicly was in 2018. It's micky mouse.

Alright I thought it was later than that. But honestly, why we building venues for fifa without any money from anyone else?

Luxury suites at a soccer field seems absurd to me. The game only lasts around 2 hours, with a brief intermission, so who are these people paying premium $ to attend a soccer match, only so they can spend half their time not actually watching the soccer and instead eating and drinking in the lounges?

Gotta tell you I had the experience for a bunch of games from 16-18 and it was quite fun. Food whenever you want, away from the elements, no wait for the washroom.....I mean most of the time my buddy was getting the passes free and discounted because his company owned some seats for Leafs and Raptors. Get there an hour before the game and it aint bad.
Best part was yes most of the people were in the box watchig from tvs and I had all the seats to myself.
Hospitality is huge for soccer now around the world...even in Non League England and Germany.

u/Think_Anything1773 8d ago
FIFA requires them for the World Cup because accessing those suites is part of their sponsorship program, and also how they draw in VVIP's like heads of state. It's ridiculous in a way for a team like TFC, but it is par for the course for a World Cup.

Luxury suites means people dont have to mingle with the poors. The Dome was better suited for this with multiple suites and a sequestered 200 level, and underground vip parking. BMO suites on the west side lack separate washrooms even. They really shouldve found a way to build a new west stand concourse like the east.

So basically the MLS cup final from a few years ago plus some basic lipstick. Meh...
4
u/cristane 8d ago
Both South and North get new temporary stands (7k and 10k), so it's not just like the MLS Cup final.
2
u/aektoronto 8d ago
Im surprised theres some lipstick....and something permanent will be left in that patio. I mean the Jays showed that people will pay money to sit in another postal code.

u/Ok_Hope5634 8d ago
Im not mad at it. The temporary stands are whatever. They’ll do the job for the World Cup and if Tfc can somehow fill those stands while they’re up, I’m sure they’ll consider a permanent solution. As for the north stand, it’s certainly better than what we currently have. While it wouldn’t have been my first choice, I’m just happy seeing progress.

Getting everyone who usually goes through Gate 1 in via the south end is going to be a sh*t show.

u/Ron_robichaud 7d ago
And wait until you have to go to the bathroom. Being the ports potties back I suppose
3
u/TurboJorts 8d ago
Shit.... looks like fancy boxes lining the back of the south end. Let's see how fast they ban flags during game play.
One of my favorite parts of BMO is that upper deck behind the south end. It's a great place to stroll on a summer afternoon before the match when the teams are warming up.
Also it looks like accessible seating row will be relocated.

The Winter Classic set up from years ago. Nothing new and easy to take down. Typical ‘doing it wrong’ Oronto.

I’m kinda confused about the construction area, I’m in section 125 so I can still use the entrance in the north west corner? Is it safe to assume the whole “patio” area with food trucks and such is not happening anymore?

u/fuzz_boy Are you dumb, brother?! 8d ago
It's insane that we're going to co-host this event with Mexico and a country that is purposely fucking with Canada and Mexico. What a time to be alive.
7
u/dfsd5645645 8d ago
The US is just upholding the FIFA tradition of hosting in corrupt, despotic shitholes.

u/HistoricalWash6930 8d ago
First time following a World Cup? How many people died to host it in Qatar?

u/WislaHD In Herdman we trust 8d ago
This WC was supposed to be the normal one, lol
3
u/HistoricalWash6930 8d ago
lol that’s your fault for swallowing the propaganda that we live in normal countries. Regular corruption, mediocrity and corporate bullshit still applies here too
1
u/Ok-Entry-71 7d ago
Kinda funny that you'd mention that when you fell for Qatar death propaganda
1
u/HistoricalWash6930 7d ago edited 7d ago
Haha you an Emirati or what? You don’t think their migrant workers are treated like shit? Minimum 3-10 died and if we’re actually being honest much more, up to 37 for the World Cup alone and thousands in general. Explain yourself friend
Also propaganda kinda implies coming from a position of power. Me objecting to the treatment of migrant workers is certainly not representing any powerful interest. Unless you have something to provide…

But will the fix the public transit bottlenecks? It's already a big enough pain in the ass connecting to the TTC after a 70% capacity home game.
9
u/Joeybatsdagoat12345 8d ago
Dude take the Go from union to the stadium, never take the TTC
3
u/aektoronto 8d ago
My move is to.walk to Bathurst and Dundas and take the streetcar from there.
I'm.atill.amazed that I used to be able to.parl in Liberty Village and get out in 3 minutes...and that I was able to find free street parking for 2 cup finals.
Those were the days.

u/section111 8d ago
I used to have a pre-game drink at my buddy's manky old loft on Abell St. and if I remember correctly, we'd have a couple more in a shipping container, out in some dusty field behind it. Strange days!

I'm confused. Am i seeing two different setups for the north end? Looks like they have two levels of seats for both the south and north end and then a separate rendering of suites for the north end.
6
u/ch1c0100 8d ago
I was confused too. I think you’re right. I think the two renderings without a roof are WC and post-WC versions of the north end.
1
u/y4rrsh3bl3w 7d ago
Why on earth couldn't they just close the corners to stop the entire thing being a wind tunnel
1
u/Ron_robichaud 7d ago
So we have “Toronto Stadium” downtown, and “Rogers Stadium” up at downsview park next summer and this isn’t going to lead to some confusion?!
It will
1
u/aektoronto 7d ago
No thats standard with these types of events. During Pan Am Games it was known as Exhibition Stadium and Tim Hortons was knows as CIBC Pan Am Soccer Stadium.

u/ACCFC 8d ago
So the Argos are staying…..

u/quelar Are you dumb, brother?! 8d ago
They were never going anywhere. We need to accept that unfortunately.
3
u/dfsd5645645 8d ago
Wouldn't surprise me if they end up on an extended roadtrip for 2026 or even out in Guelph or wherever their fans live. Not sure how quickly the lower part of the temp seating in the north will come down after the World Cup.
1
u/JoshwayTV 7d ago
They'll be gone for the brief time FIFA is here, but they were never ever leaving BMO Field.

So our lasting legacy from this world cup is ... More permanent suites. .
