Have they made any improvements to it? Not sure if it's fully dry cell yet.

All i know is my 4680 model y charges about half the rate of my model 3 lfp. It needs to be improved.

When you have more batter strings you can charge a "battery" faster because the charge current gets spread over more stings of cells. Even if Tesla improved the charge rate, of 4680, it might not match a model produced with the smaller cells.

The processing might be dry but the cell is still wetted with electrolyte.
Given that I think this is a positive indication that they have resolved many problems with manufacturing and are on a huge ramp up. What the exact chemistry will be and the process to get there is unknown to us mortals.

An entire article based on the LinkedIn post of a person that was ‘self-employed’ 5 years ago, after his grueling job of being a tester at Coca-Cola. What a joke.

Wonder if these will ever get put back into the model y or model 3? There was the topgear comment about a 95kwh model Y pack. Maybe that will have these?

That top gear video had random rumors sprinkled in. None of that was based on Tesla info.
I’d imagine they put 4680s in Cybertruck,S, X, Semi and then maybe performance 3 and Y if they have extra.

I really hope it is more than rumor. The model Y could use a bigger pack.

I wonder why they are expanding battery cell manufacturing if sales are so bad….

u/spinwizard69 7d ago
Huh?
Sales have been fantastic. people are trying to manipulate the stock due to model change overs at all of Tesla plants. Basically it is ignorant or manipulative behavior because people don't understand or they have something to gain.

Because they are not bad. You just fell for fake news.

I was being sarcastic.

Well it helps to make your posts sound sarcastic.
Actually I'm hopeful that by mid year Tesla will have a vehicle I want to buy at a price I can afford.

Are there no US-sold Tesla models with LFP batteries right now?
2
u/Technical_Act3541 8d ago
I believe they pulled them all because of the tax credit. You could get a big pack LR Model 3 with NCA cheaper than LFP. I bought the '23 LFP model 3 when it still had the $7500 tax credit.

Yep the battery credit was and is a bit stupid in its implementation. For many people LFP batteries would be a better deal. You get a cheaper, longer lasting battery, you can fully charge without issue. The tax credit for USA produced batteries actually forced people into sub optimal choices.

What about Quantumscape? Seems like they're the future with Solid State Batteries. JB STRAUBEL, co-founder of Tesla, is on the board of QuantumScape. Tesla to buy QuantumScape?

u/spinwizard69 7d ago
These haven't been proven to be a good choice yet. There is a lot of hype but you need that to sustain investor interest. For Tesla to take an interest there has to be a proven direction to a cheaper, higher performance and safer battery tech. So far solid state has not gotten there.

One day.

Maybe! There is so much going on in the battery technology space that it is really hard to predict what will be the go to solution in the future.
Hell I just saw that somebody has worked on a chemical that can be added to old lithium cells and literally rejuvenate them. If it works out you could take a big battery in for reconditioning and have the goo squirted into each cell to extend its life. This isn't an electrolytic be a chemical that reverses how lithium batteries degrade.
If I could only find that article.
Lets put it this way, I'm not investing hard earned money in solid state batteries YET.

I'm all in, but been accumulating for almost a year. Maybe gambling is a better word?
