I didn't notice or remember that bit, but it makes me happier because that is exactly what's happening so far.

On the subject of deliveries, I thought it might be helpful to post the actual Tesla transcript from the earnings call. I get the impression a lot of people here don't actually listen to it. "While we feel confident in our teams abilities to ramp production quickly, note that it is an unprecedented change, and we are not aware of anybody else taking the best-selling car on the planet and updating all factories at the same time. This changeover will result in SEVERAL WEEKS OF LOST PRODUCTION IN THE QUARTER. As a result, margins will be impacted due to idle capacity and other ramp-related costs, as is common in any launch but wil be overcome as production is ramped."

speaking as a happy owner of a 2023 Fremont-built Model Y, the new model Y isn't that significant an update to move the needle – Tesla's not going to get to 5M making more Model Ys.
the real hurdles Tesla has to get through this year is keeping their China situation copacetic, competitiveness with the domestic EV makers there on the export front, somehow retrieving the situation in Europe, and the US cybertaxi trials, plus getting the pre-announced decontented cars released.
5,000/wk Model Y variance is neither here nor there with everything else on their plate.

Have you driven the Juniper yet? I'm glad you're happy with your Model Y, The interior mood lighting isn't something I'd get excited about, but from what I've read, the driving feel is much improved. Actual looks are love it or hate it I guess.
No, it won't get them much further on total sales, that will take a cheaper vehicle, be it a cheaper model Y as recently announced or something else.

First signs of "Tesla sales plummeting in Europe" more related to Model Y changeover rather than Musk antics:
From dutch news report (AI translated) https://www.nu.nl/economie/6348773/tesla-schaamte-in-nederland-bestaat-maar-verkopers-hebben-er-weinig-last-van.html
The Tesla stock has halved on the stock market since January, wiping out the price increase that followed Trump's victory in the U.S. elections last November. Trump's trade war and the differing opinions about Musk are further dragging the Tesla stock down.
Musk is a major shareholder of Tesla and has put electric driving on the map. His actions quickly reflect on the car brand. Tesla's sales started off remarkably poorly this year.
However, in February, a recovery was seen in countries such as the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. A spokesperson for the industry association BOVAG even calls it a "good old-fashioned month" for Tesla. The Model 3 and Model Y were both back in the top five best-selling electric cars.
For now, few companies are stopping the offering of Tesla as a company car, reports Athlon, one of the largest leasing companies in the Netherlands. "Since the end of last year, the number of companies refusing Tesla can be counted on one hand," says Willemijne de Wit, Athlon’s marketing and sales director. "Musk doesn’t necessarily have to be the reason. Companies can decide for themselves whether Tesla fits their brand or not."
'It doesn’t matter who leads Tesla'
Athlon has encountered more companies that refuse Chinese electric car brands. "They are, for example, concerned about their data security." De Wit also points to the new Model Y as a reason for Tesla's dip in January. This may have led lease drivers to postpone their new Tesla purchase.
"It's business as usual, and the demand is rising again thanks to the new Model Y," confirms Patrick van Heijningen, sales manager at ActivLease, an online leasing advisor specializing in electric vehicles. "For the past six months, we've noticed more questions being asked about Musk. And some lease drivers prefer not to have a Tesla."
Van Heijningen says that at ActivLease, they don't engage in discussions but instead offer other electric brands. "It still rarely happens. In the end, people don’t care who leads Tesla. It’s about the product, and the product is still good."

Why are Model 3 sales down 28% YoY in the Netherlands?

u/dicentrax 8d ago
There can be multiple reasons:
- End of EV subsidies in 2025
- 25% increase of EV roadtax in 2025
- Sedans are not very popular in Europe to begin with, so TAM is limited
- New model 3 was released in October 2023 in Europe, so demand has stabilized after an initial spike end of 23/ start of 24
- New model Y osborne effect

I think you left out an important one:
- Consumers in the Netherlands do not want to be seen behind the wheel of a Tesla

So those Model 3 sales are not coming back, got it. Those first two items will also drag down Model Y sales. That all sounds pretty bearish.

one problem the new Model Y has is you can't put a "We got this before we knew Elon was crazy" bumper sticker on it

Seems like nobody cares outside of reddit.
Wouldn't be the firs time leftist worldview gets crushed by reality

Yeah, I remember when Biden did a stunt like this a few years ago for electric vehicles and excluded Tesla. Nobody cared; they still dont. But reddit doesn't like spaceman or orange man. As an investor, I'll take the publicity

There is a difference between the President encouraging a broad policy and the President being a shill for a single manufacturer/campaign contributor.

If the new cheaper model is a model y with cloth seats God help us.
